I wish I could give this place a better review. They have lofty ambitions, and I admire the sentiment, but overall we were really disappointed. First the good: the ambiance, decor and atmosphere are all on point. The food was beautifully plated as well. That's about where things start to go downhill. We were sat and then waited for a solid 10 minutes before our server arrived. She was clearly inexperienced and not comfortable interacting with guests, so much in fact that she simply said "What would you like?" We ordered our meal and she left. She eventually came back with our salads. As I said before, the food was beautifully plated, however it simply did not resemble what was described on the menu at all. I had the "baby romaine salad with Parmesan fluff, white anchovy and broken garlic dressing". What I got was half brown, semi-wilted romaine, shaved Parmesan chunks and store bought Ceaser dressing with a few whole anchovies draped across the top of everything. Next up was "braised beef short ribs with shaved asparagus and rosemary Parmesan fries": lukewarm, flavorless short ribs sitting on top of whole spears of cold asparagus and a pile of fries similar to Steak and Shake with no seasoning whatsoever, much less rosemary and Parmesan. My girlfriend had an almost identical experience with her duck entree and her salad. Couple this with a glass of stale wine and water that we had to ask for, and it totals up to an overall letdown. Again, I wish I could say good things, but if you're going to charge haute cuisine prices, the food and service should be up to par. For a $100 plus meal for two, we expected a much better experience. Maybe they were just having an off night, but we likely won't be back anytime soon.

I was suspicious of the negative reviews on here with there being so many fabulous reviews, but after experiencing the service and the cuisine I now see that the people giving positive reviews must have had no previous experience with fine dining and definitely no experience in the restaurant industry. The atmosphere was on point but the staff was inexperienced...far too inexperienced for the price point and the level of dining Providence is advertising. We waited at the bar for our table and our drinks were good although it took the bartender an abnormally long time to pour 1 glass of whiskey neat and make 1 mixed drink. We were seated with menus but no wine list (which we had to request) and when the server finally showed up she lead with "ok what can I get you?" No specials, no request for drink orders, no explanation of the menu. So the first thing I tried to order she says "oh we don't have that. We're out. Oh, also we don't have...." Anyway, skipping to the actual meal. My boyfriend's salad appeared on the menu to be similar to a Cesar salad but with an anchovy and crushed garlic dressing and "parmesan fluff". It was lettuce with shaved parmesan and actual strips of anchovy. I think the dressing was still something close to Cesar. He ordered the braised beef short rib. It was very small and very over cooked with no flavor. Supposed to come with rosemary parmesan fries and shaved asparagus. It came with shoestring fries like at Steak and Shake and just cut up asparagus. I ordered "Duck Hash Skillet -Duck confit, soft egg, duck fat crispy potatoes, vegetable hash, bacon vinaigrette, pickled shishito peppers" which was really a tasteless duck quarter with with sweet potatoes and some greens and an egg. I should have taken pictures to do this justice. It looked nothing like the pictures they have rotating across the screen in the restaurant and it tasted nothing like the description. We also had to request water glasses and there was never an offer for us to order additional drinks. My boyfriend did have 1 glass of wine which tasted like it had been open for at least a month. We did notice the other 2 servers engaging with their tables much much more than ours did so some of them are trying. Our server wasn't even fit for waffle house. The restaurant has high ambitions and a good idea but they do not have the kitchen staff to support such a menu and they do not have the service staff to support the atmosphere they are attempting. We spent far too much money here for what we received and we would not recommend this place to anyone.

The atmosphere was wonderful, the music, decor and ambiance are all on point. The presentation was beautiful, but the service was lacking and there were too many discrepancies between what we ordered and what was actually on the plates we received. The main issue is that the food that was described in the menu was not what came out on our plates. It wasn't bad, just bland and not as was described. “Shaved asparagus” was simply whole spears of it. “Parmesan fluff” was just chunks of shaved parm from a container. Disappointing, considering that the menu sounds incredible. Our server was inexperienced and not very attentive. Our drinks were good, aside from a glass of stale wine, but overall for the money we spent we expected a much better experience. The restaurant was possibly just having an off night, but I doubt we will be back.

This is amazing restaurant. We had our Valentine dinner here and were well pleased. We had a reservation and were seated within a few minutes of arrival. Staff was welcoming. Our server was delightful! Food was incredible. Locally sourced profile and veggies added to the experience. We had the filet which was cooked perfectly and served with an amazing sauce. Appetizer was a tuna tartar and a roasted beet salad. Both were excellent. Desert was an amazing take on apple pie, using the lightest, flakiest, puff pastry I have ever seen. It just melted in your mouth. Presentation was first rate - you would expect in a fine dining restaurant. Great wine and beer selection. Price was reasonable. The most amazing thing about thus restaurant is it's cause and background. This is the graduate residency portion of the Triad Community Kitchen, established by the 2nd Harvest Food Bank of NWNC. Students train for line cook jobs before graduating. Those who want to go to the next level spend time at Providence learning the cooking and presentation skills of fine dining. Important note: service staff is paid $9 an hour and only receive tips presented in cash. Tips I'm run on your credit card are a donation to the program. Make sure you carry some cash to honor your server. We'll be back!

We really enjoyed our first visit to Providence. Food was delicious. Service was excellent. Presentation was very up scale. We will be back. Note: if you leave a tip on your card, it is treated as a donation to the programs. Wait staff is paid $9 an hour and the only tips they receive are ones given in cash.

Nice restaurant. The server was very attentive to us and the food was excellent. The food came in a timely way and was hot when it arrived. Overall a good value and a very nice dinner.

Our family decided to try the restaurant since they will be catering our wedding later this year. Protocol was our waiter, and he was incredibly knowledgeable about the mission and values of the establishment. He was funny and professional. The food was delicious. For someone who doesn't care for Brussel sprouts, there sauce highlights the best flavor. The Salumi and Cheese plate was exceptional. The shrimp and grits were out of this world. The family agreed it was the best they have ever had. The meatloaf was good, but did not care for the sauce. The chicken and dumplings were hearty, but could have used a little salt and pepper. Overall, we loved the experience and the food. We will certainly be back, and we cannot wait to start picking out the wedding selections!

This is the first restaurant I've been to where tips are donated to a non profit, Second Harvest. That fact alone led me to support this restaurant. The customer service was 5 stars - the staff was friendly, and prompt. My food was good - 4 stars for the she crab soup and 3.5 stars for the pan fried pork chop. The soup was tasty - the green onions added great flavor to the dish. However, I wish the soup had crab meat within it. The pork chop was ok - it did not have much flavor to it, but I still ate it. I also did not like the collard greens. My ultimate favorite dish was the butter pecan cheesecake. If you're a butter pecan lover, this is a must have! My mouth is watering as I write this - it is THAT good. Overall, I think this is a good restaurant with a great mission to give back. I'd definitely return and try other dishes.

We went as a group of 6 for New Years Eve. Took forever to get our drinks, which mine was terrible when it came (elderberry fizz). The table was tucked by an exterior door (drafty) and poorly lit. The food came out at a decent pace and the appetizers were decent, highlight of entire meal were the brussel sprouts. The main course was mediocre at best for the cost. My friend, who ordered the salmon, didn't even have salmon on her plate, just the garnish. Had to ask for her meal. Another friend couldn't even eat her dinner. For spending over $100 per couple, I felt completely underwhelmed and disappointed.

The ambiance is wonderful. But it took 45 minutes for our group of 7 to be served any food. Waiter was maybe inexperienced. Took drink order one person at a time. Instead of bringing out drinks at one time, he brought one at a time out, which took a long time. Brought soups, then brought salad with the meal for one guest instead of with soups. Crab bisque was very salty.

This is a farm to table restaurant and they also have some sort of agreement where they help with training culinary students... so basically, you should feel good eating here. This restaurant is located inside of the Doubletree hotel. Service was excellent, good was amazing, our special requests were accomodated and my vegan daughter was even able to have a nice meal. We spent $59 with the tip for one entree salad and two regular entree dinners and one soda. Everything was great and I would return for dinner when in town again. Thanks!

We bragged about Providence to our visiting relatives from Pennsylvania. We were very disappointed in the service. We sat at the table of over 20 minutes before a waitstaff person took our drink order. We waited too much for waitstaff. The food was very good as always.
