Love their 5-way Chili?❤ Patty melt was good also?
So yummy. Love stopping by when I'm in town!
So short of help you have to order your food at counter and wait for it. No wait staff there.
Awesome double chees burger and great vanilla shake. I highly recommend.
Great shakes, it's understandably a "park thru" since they put your patties on after you order. Burgers are small for the price, but fresh and worth the cost and wait. Try the garlic burger! Our cashier was less than excited to be serving us. The place is empty and she enjoys not being bothered with customers. Somehow I get the feeling this location, and the long-established 24/7 chain (1930s!) are on their way out. They will be missed by the elders.
Today I stopped at the Steak and Shake on Stratford Road near the Hanes Mall. There were only three cars in the drive thru. I asked for a double cheeseburger with large fries and a small chocolate shake. I was handed my bag and I proceeded to drive home all the way to Clemmonsville Road. When I prepared to go inside I looked in my bag and there was only a large fry in the bag. No double cheeseburger. I was in disbelief. First I attempted to call to speak to the manager but the phone line was not in service. Frustrated, I decided to drive back to the restaurant. When I got there the drive thru operator said she realized her mistake after I drove off. I asked if the manager was going to compensate me needing to drive all the way back due to their mistake. The manager came to the window and did not apologize but instead proceeded to tell me I could get a refund of my money or my food. I told him I was supposed to have my order corrected because I’d already paid for it, but I wanted to be compensated for all my inconvenience by being refunded my money too. He said you can get the food or your money back but not both.I repeated my request for a refund stating I had already paid for my food so getting my food is no compensation. He then said that’s all I’m offering your food or the money. I repeated I should get my food because I’ve already paid for it. I want to be refunded my money due to all I have endured having to return. At that point he shut the window in my face and said I’ve offered you your food or your money now you’re getting nothing! I couldn’t believe this was the manager and I was being treated this way. He kept waving goodbye to me to add insult to his rudeness. He never even offered me a coupon as compensation. Please do not go to this Steak and Shake. It is poorly managed and they don’t care about customer satisfaction. I will NEVER go there again!
I have gone here twice in the last week due to travel. Both times I went through the drive thru. The employees were friendly. I got the fresco melt and fries both times. My food was fresh made and delicious. I highly recommend
A lot of restaurants have struggled to find their footing in the pandemic, striking some balance of physical safety buffers versus dining experience to varying degrees of success. While steak and shake has a chain still has a lot of waiting times and quality control issues to tackle, I am going to say that, at least for my impressions of this visit, I would recommend this location for a place to grab a bite to eat.We had probably the best meal we've ever had at a S&S today, very well prepared and quick (less than 10 minutes of wait time). The burgers were very well seasoned, and my chili 5-way was excellent as well. Be aware that the entire restaurant has shifted to fully counter service at this point, to the end of a notification posted at the registers reminding people to throw out their own garbage and not to leave it on the table. It's a little bit irksome that they still ask for a tip at checkout, considering that there's no waiter or waitress service, but I chalked that up to being a relic of "the before times" than anything else.It is very easy to get a filling and tasty meal here for two, drinks included, for less than $20 without it *feeling* like typical McDs-tier fast food. Can't say that about many sit down places these days!
For the name and price, thought I would get a good hot off the grill burger, meat is super thin, fries are super skinny.. Bubble gut super blow out was the end result.
Absolutely awful. The website says they are open for dine in. They are most certainly not. Grandkids and I then waited in the drive thru for almost 10 minutes, mind you there was only one car ahead of us, to be told the credit card scanner wasn't working and we would have to pay with cash. Not a problem, I had enough cash to cover it, we only wanted milkshakes. Then with a chuckle she tells us that we can't get shakes because YOU'RE OUT OF ICE CREAM!!ARE YOU SERIOUS??!! I'm not buying it. I'm sure your manager would be happy knowing that you let a $40 order drive away. Cook Out had no problem fulfilling our order. The only reason I even left 1 star is that you can't leave a review if you don't.

Even though it says on their website that they are open now, they are most assuredly NOT open at 10:18 a.m. this morning. Nobody will answer the phone and no hours are posted anywhere on the building so that customers can see what time their actual hours are. There are lights on and it does seem to have people inside, but they are ignoring me. You would think that with the restaurant industry struggling the way they are due to the pandemic they would be a little more considerate to people who actually want to spend money there.
Literally had only two people that I ever saw working. Ended up leaving after waiting for a hot minute. Not sure about the food. Never got any.
I love steak ‘n Shake.. the location in Winston Salem near the mall. Is the closest one around, the service isn’t the best.. even before pandemic the service wasn’t the best. 8 out of 10 times food is great.. I’ve had pretty bad experiences with food and service. But the good out weighs the bad. The employees could put in more effort place would be great.
Horrible service. There were 2 other families in the restuarant when we walked in, so of course we thought they were open to dine in, we ordered our food and were told they were short handed so they locked the door behind us so no one else could come in. Other patrons came to eat inside and the doors were locked, most with little children. They walked around the building to the other side and tried that door but it was locked also. A worker went outside for a smoke break and to talk to some woman, yet couldn't manage to tell anyone that was walking up that they weren't having dine in. Absolutely horrible service. If we wouldn't have paid for our food we would have left. My husband eventually went outside to tell the people what was going on because a worker couldn't bother to tell them. He also told them not to waste their money in a restuarant like this. This place needs a visit from corporate.
Probably the worst experience I’ve ever had at a food service establishment. All employees were in the back, no one to take order. I wanted a milkshake, but this “steak n SHAKE” was unable to do that because “the ice cream was too frozen”. I had half a mind to leave but against my better judgement, I ordered anyway. I then notice that everyone else in the store has milkshakes, so I’m confused as to why I was denied one and told that the ice cream was all frozen; what is this, Mcdonald’s? The fries were unsalted, the burger was soggy and cold, and the ketchup made me want to vomit. I assumed they switched to counter-style service and closed 90% of their tables because of the pandemic, but I’m now convinced it is because the management simply can’t be bothered to express any concern for its patrons. I believe this location is overdue for a surprise visit from corporate.
