This used to be our go-to place. Great food, reasonable prices, good service. The ONLY thing they have maintained was good service.
**please note we understand it was a busy day and that was taken into account.**
We came in for the Valentine's Day special and had reservations. We had to wait almost 30 min to be seated, past our reservation (we were ok with it since they were incredibly busy, we understood). Once seated, the server was great. We decided to splurge and get the $110 special.
We have never been more disappointed in a meal.
My lemon drop martini was meh. Weirdly, it had very little flavor, but I hate complaining to waitstaff about stuff like that. My husband got knoephla soup with no knoephla in it.
Our son had his food come out well before ours so he ate, then sat there and watched us eat. When our food finally came (I had Ribeye and my husband did surf and turf) it was cold. My potatoes were cold, and the asparagus was luke warm at best. My ribeye was warm-ish and my husband's food was flat out cold, along with the smallest steak I have ever seen.
Everything on my plate was covered in the lemon/garlic butter and it was way too much. When our server came by, we did explain that our food was cold and she took my husband's back and they made him a new plate. She offered to reheat mine and I said ok, however she forgot and honestly it wasn't worth it since I wasn't really that hungry anymore. When My husband's food came out, somehow he ended up with a SMALLER steak and his food still wasn't hot.
The best part of the meal was the cookie skillet that was overdone, but hey, it was warm.
I need to say again, the server was amazing and very apologetic. The food, was meh at best, and had it been warm may have been upgraded to ok.
We ended up spending over 2 hours there for a very disappointing dining experience.
When the bill comes to almost $200 (we had a couple of drinks too) the expectations become a bit greater.
We will not be going back which is disappointing, but we are not willing to chance having another garbage experience with the food and paying an arm and a leg to be disappointed.

My wife had been to the Tavern in Bismarck and had a great experience. I was excited to give it a shot. The menu was interesting, the interior was clean and inviting, there were happy hour deals!
I ordered the schnitzel special which came out barely lukewarm and flavorless. The schnitzel was soggy and flavorless, the spaetzle turned into flavorless gum in your mouth and the cabbage was undercooked and, you guessed it, flavorless.
Completely overpriced and disappointing meal. If it weren’t for the atmosphere and friendly wait staff, this would have been a 1 star review.
There are so many amazing restaurants in Fargo/West Fargo, I would recommend so many other places to spend your free time and hard earned money.

Had a horrible experience for the second time in as many times visited… so I guess the lesson learned is to just stop going. I don’t know if you blame service issues solely on the service staff, or if it’s a management issue, or what the problem is…. But everything was underwhelming for a place you would expect much better experiences from. Both times (even with reservations) we waited 15-20 minutes to be seated ( even when their is hardly anyone there), missing items from our orders, mistakes to what was even ordered, didn’t get correct drinks, not having servers check back on us for more than 20 minutes to refill drinks or see if we need anything more, and no help from other staff or the female I assume was the manager. Food was cold for one of us, and not just Luke warm, the pasta was literally cold to the point where the sauce wasn’t even sauce anymore, but just “caked-on” to the stiff pasta. Both times it took more than 3 hours (from entrance to exit) for us to be seated, dine, and pay our bill. Huge waste of our time (because we expected to be in and out in a 1-2 hours maximum)…just careless treatment and lackluster efforts towards providing the basic expected necessities from any food service staff. I’d be embarrassed beyond words if this was the establishment I was responsible for managing. I made it a point to write a review because it wasn’t just a one time issue, it was consistently bad service from an establishment that is masqueraded as a “nice place” for family dining. I’d challenge the site manager to provide me with any explanation for this type of or consistent bad service in attempts to make future improvements. I simply will not be dining here again, and would not recommend it for anyone with basic expectations of common service courtesy.

Here on a Sunday night, not very busy. Slow service. Most Servers Slow and lazy. Extremely slow kitchen 😴. 20 min to get an appetizer. It was cold when we finally got it. 40 min for a also cold main course. All in all would not recommend. But the food was good if you like having cold leftovers.

I've had a lot of good experiences at The Tavern but recently not as good. Some of the food is delicious and some of it is just not bad. The service is friendly and usually quick to get seated but my last visit it was over 50 minutes from ordering to getting our food. Could be flukes, but my more recent experiences aren't as good as in the past. Overall its still decent, just hit or miss.

My last 2 visits to the Tavern Bar and Grill were disappointing to say the least. On Dec 31, I ordered the prime rib special for a premium price. I even opted for the larger serving with plans to enjoy leftovers. What I received was a thick steak with gristle and waste galore. No crust on the 'prime rib' or anything to resemble a special cut of meat. Also, no leftovers due to all the inedible portions.
Tonight, I ordered the knoephla soup which is supposed to have some veggies and small dumplings or dough balls. My soup was just a bowl of white, heavily salted cream soup with nothing in it. The chicken in my wrap was dry and overdone.
I did not complain either time as it is not the server's fault. So about $150 for two subpar meals is down the drain.

Went there last weekend with a couple friends after work. The place had a relaxed, casual vibe and didn’t feel rushed, which I liked. We ordered a mix of burgers and sandwiches, and everything came out pretty quick. My burger was cooked right and the fries were hot, not soggy, so that’s always a plus. Portions were decent for the price, nothing over the top but filling enough. The staff was polite and checked in once or twice without hovering.

Ordered waffle fries like I often do and came to find out they no longer provide seasoned sour cream with them for dipping. Only ketchup now. The only reason I got the fries was for the sour cream dip. So disappointing that another resturant finds it necessary to change things on the menu that should have been left as is. I will not be coming back and will take my business elsewhere.
