To tell the truth, I didn't have real high hopes for Mel's. However, the food, service, and ambiance were all A+. I had a club sandwich and fries for about $10. The sandwich was huge and it came with a good amount of fries. It takes a little more than the average meal to fill me up but I was full after eating 3 quarters of the sandwich and most of the fries. I will go back again.

The food and pies were excellent! We where there during the Sunday rush and the place was packed, but we still had excellent service and the food came quickly.

Came to this place little after 7 pm ordered by 7:20 pm didn't end up getting our food they never bothered to come tell us after 8pm that the food got held

I usually love this restaurant, but on this occasion, I got the broasted chicken dinner, and it left a bit to be desired. Maybe it was a bad day for the cook, but it was unsatisfying. Their breakfast is always very good.

OK so the food was good. However, I had an omelet with Swiss cheese, tomatoes and mushrooms. There was way too much tomatoes ground up really small you couldn't taste them and not near enough mushrooms. I'm pretty sure the egg was that fake crap. Didn't have any meat in it because I thought I mentioned something to the waitress about sausage in the Biscuits/gravy. I thought I saw something on the menu about sausage gravy but no there wasn't any. The biscuits were a little hard and had to use a knife to cut into them. I ordered the Mel's Potatoes. according to the menu there was supposed to be grilled onions but there were none. Also some kind of special seasoning which there was none. Not a good 1st time experience.

There were four of us that ate. Love the atmosphere! The hot beef sandwich was what two of us had. Gravy was great, and the bread was soft. The meat was dry and like jerky in some parts. The French Dip was just as dry, and the bun was hard. I ordered a $2.49 side salad. Would not order it again. It was tiny. Counted the bites, literally 7 bites before the little bowl was empty.If this had been our first time, we would not go back simply based on the food.Been there before and the broasted chicken is AMAZING!
I work in construction as a plumber and stumbled across Mel's Diner. I've eaten at a lot of places on the road and this is one of the best. I recommend the chicken fried steak breakfast and the liver and onion dinner.. their onion rings are fantastic. Prices are very reasonable and lots better quality food than any fast food joint. I will be eating there again.
