Gerda's is closing their doors on 6/22 after many years serving delicious meals. Unfortunately, they are going out with a whimper instead of a bang. I think the root cause is not accepting reservations, which causes an onslaught of guests wanting a last meal before they close. Everything I had was phoned in, starting with a warm glass of white wine. The house salad was tasteless and served with a piece of bread from a store-bought, generic loaf of bread. The pan-fried chicken dinner, once lauded as the best in Omaha, was dry as dust and nearly impossible to cut. This is the same meal that I had in March and called the best chicken I had ever eaten, incredibly juicy and flavorful. Gerda's, you owe yourself and your patrons a better farewell week than this. Take reservations or make some other adjustment to say goodbye on your best footing.

Sad they are closing. Pastries made with love and good ingredients. Another one of the old mainstay mom and pop places gone. We will miss them.

The food was AMAZING and authentic! Get ANYTHING and you won't be disappointed. They take reservations AND walk-ins. Super friendly and helpful staff. Not too pricey. Definitely worth a visit and you'll find yourself becoming a regular

If you haven't visited Gerda's you must go! I lived in Germany for a couple of years and this is as close to the real deal as you can get. We go in there quite often to pick up Bakery items which are fantastic! Their food is amazing and it is a quaint place to visit!

I ordered their signature dish, the Jaeger Schnitzel, and the soup of the day which was broccoli & cauliflower. It. Was. SO. Good. It brought me right back to my Oma's table when I was little. (Although Oma's table didn't include a giant frosty lager at the time... :) )

Best pastries and pan fried chicken i've ever had. They know me and provide me with my trademark "Dave's secret sack" (An extra pastry/donut just for me that I eat prior to bringing the rest into the office.) Love the atmosphere and pretty much everything about it.

This was a third visit to the sit-down restaurant. Without reservations, were seated immediately on a Saturday night. Were extended a warm, friendly greeting as usual, as we were recognized from recent past patronage. Complimentary dinner rolls and butter were immediately brought to the table, along with a drink order request. The Wiener Schnitzel (breaded pork loin) is a classic, and was excellent as usual (hot and flavorful). A cup of goulash soup was perfect on a very cold Omaha winter night, and tasty. Warm red cabbage was outstanding, as was spaetzel (homemade noodles), with a side of brown gravy. German potato salad also good. Have also tried the pan-fried chicken from a past visit, and it was delicious.

I wasn't hungry enough for lunch so I took my pasties to go. The shortbread cookie with raspberry filling was so good I wished I'd bought more to share. The Black Forest Cherry was so awesome I kept that all for myself. What a gem! I should have circled back for lunch.

Had dinner here with a local Meetup group. The restaurant, normally closed on Sundays, kindly opened their doors to accommodate our large group. This was my second dining experience here. I had the fried pork and spaetzel (noodles), which was quite good, as was the fried chicken I'd had previously. I really like the framed pictures of German towns on the wall, and the various flags (which are presumably of different states/provinces in Germany). Service was very attentive and friendly! The bakery area (at the entrance) offers delicious homemade treats, using what I suspect are longtime, unchanged recipes. The cream horn was good, and chocolate mousse outstanding. It's a great place to go just for dessert! Will definitely return, probably sooner than later.

Love me some Gerdas. My heart is still sad that she is no longer with us. But I've grown up on Gerdas and it's about time I give it the 5 stars it deserves. I am partial to the Gerda's Signature Dish-Jaeger Schnitzel (Hunter Schnitzel) Breaded tender pork loin topped with creamy burgundy mushroom sauce and kaese spaetzle, includes one (1) glass of wine or beer of your choice and a slice of Black Forrest Cherry Torte. I always go for the Dunkel and of course have a few extras as well. The pastries are legit. Especially the apple strudel. Like I said, I literally grew up at Gerdas and I pray it sticks around for years to come. ps make sure you hit up Oktoberfest!!!!!!
