One of the best steak houses in downtown Omaha. The prices and service are good. When dining by oneself, you are relegated to the bar area which they have hightop tables which work well. Food comes out timely and I'll be back.

We celebrated our wedding anniversary here and we were so happy with our choice! The service was fantastic and the food was incredible! Drinks and dessert were amazing too. Just an overall fabulous experience!

Visiting from out of town and we're excited to try this place out. Extremely loud, had to ask for our server at the 10 minute mark. Steak was chewy, would have bought more drinks had our server been more attentive. Asked for a beer list and was given a cell phone with a picture of the servers screen?? Just not what we were expecting.

J Gilbert's is always a great experience. The food and service are excellent, although a little on the expensive side. We ordered from the Prix Fixe menu for Easter Sunday and I had the Prime Rib. One of the best Prime Ribs I have ever had. Others in my party enjoyed their selections also.

When you eat at a bit more expensive place, you expect better food and service. We were not disappointed.

One of my top 3 favorite restaurants in Omaha. The food, service and atmosphere are the best. It's a place to celebrate special occasions or if you really just one to treat yourself to a great meal. The only negatives, price and parking. I was told today, Easter Sunday, was free parking. I somehow figured out how to park 10 minutes away and having to pay $12 to do so. I don't go to the Capital District often so I'm sure there are better places to park that are closer and cheaper, I just haven't figured it out yet. And finally, this is a high end restaurant. Don't be shocked to see $45+ entrees with sides all being extra.

Great experience overall. Food was amazing and our server was exceptional. This place is great for both adults only and having a family dinner. Look forward to returning.

This is a place that has "steakhouse" in the name however there were at least four people at the table who ordered steak and their steaks were not cooked as ordered. Three severely overcooked, one undercooked. I will get credit too our waitress, she was lovely and her service was above par, it was just the food that fell short. Only one person opted to send their steak back, the undercooked. We were a table of 9. The creme brulee desert was very heavy, flavorless and lackluster. We were highly disappointed in the food. When you order a $46 filet mignon you expect it to be cooked correctly.

I have tried to call and speak with a manager, sent in written requests, left a voicemail, and no response. I expected more from J Gilberts than being completely ignored. I went there for my birthday dinner, my 83 year old mother even saved up so we could enjoy our evening and have a nice dinner as my birthday gift. We had eaten there for her birthday, thanksgiving and for many other occasions...always have had wonderful food and service, but not this time. It upset and disappointed my mother so much that she ended up leaving to the foyer by the hotel and I found her crying. It was a horredous array of mishap after mishap from cold food being replaced with cold food, potatoes in the au gratin being vastly undercooked, to even a very raw inside to a steak that was to be cooked to medium. The service was so slow that we were there for over 2 hours while other people had come and gone and had a wonderful dinner. I received a birthday dessert and chose the apple tart that was to be warm..... it was cold in the middle and the dough was raw, the waiter brought another only to have that one still be frozen in the middle. Out of some attempt to salvage dinner, he gave me one to bring home that they has warmed up, put the ice cream on it and closed it up in the plastic container and you can imagine the mess that was in when I got home. I can understand an off night or a dish being cold, but this was just all over the place and on top of that they wouldn't let me use my $20 gift card and they even kept it. I have tried to get it back but to no avail. There are so many choices of steak places in this town, I would think twice before going here.

Pics of my dessert that I brought home. They had warned it up so it steamed and got mushy and the ice cream melted. They should have let me warm it up at home. Absolute disaster and disappointing birthday. In fact they ruined it for me.

My family (of 7) and I recently visited J. Gilbert’s to celebrate my sister’s birthday, expecting a high-quality dining experience from a fine-dining steakhouse. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing.

Two members of our party ordered steaks, both of which were significantly undercooked compared to how they were ordered. Additionally, the broccolini was extremely salty and drenched in an overpowering citrus flavor, making it completely inedible—even after sending it back and requesting it without the citrus dressing, it returned just as salty. I originally ordered this for my son, but neither of us could eat it.

Beyond that, other sides and soups were also overly salty, and the overall food quality did not meet expectations. I personally chose not to send my steak back and instead took it home to cook it further, which is not something I expect to do at a restaurant of this caliber.

After paying for our meal and leaving a generous tip, I shared my concerns with the manager, who acknowledged that there was a new cook and said the feedback would be helpful. However, there was no attempt to remedy the situation or offer any form of reassurance. While I didn’t expect anything in particular, I believe good management should address customer concerns in a way that encourages them to return.

Unfortunately, after this experience—not only with the food but also with the lack of concern from the manager—my family and I do not plan to return to J. Gilbert’s. It’s disappointing, as we have visited before and overlooked small issues, but this time, it was enough to make us take our business elsewhere.

I'm just not a fan. They said their medium rare is rare, and their medium well was medium rare. It's a temp. It should be universal. So, my medium rare was purple on the inside. I didn't mind it. However, the flavors weren't exactly $50+ per lb good. They were just alright. I hate to rate it bad because it is a nice place with nice people. It does seem to be really expensive for having their star dishes be "just alright".

Food was decent, but not up to par with other places in the area. It was a clean atmosphere and the service was stellar. It's a convenient place to go if you're right in that area, but if you're willing to drive just a bit further, you'll find better to eat.

You can shoot a cannon off in this place! No wonder! Ridiculously high drink prices! Way overpriced! Hi ho!

We have been here several times and usually everything is great. However, this last time, our service was absolutely horrible. We brought friends with us. This was their first time. Our waitress barely came to our table, she was rude to my wife, kept "forgetting" to bring things We asked for, several times. She was too busy staying focused on one other table. Our food took forever to come out and when it did, it was cold. There were parties that sat down after us and had already finished eating and were gone before we ever got our food. Needless to say, this deterred our friends from ever wanting to come back and to be honest, it left a bad taste in our mouths as well.

We always love it here. We were there for our anniversary on Febr 4. We both had the prix frixe ? Dinner. Best crab bisque in town. My husband had the filet and scallops; we both thought the scallops smelled of ammonia so sent them back. Our server said the manager said they were fine but went ahead and took them off the bill. No apology from manager which I feel should have happened. We are both very sensitive to seafood going bad and that is the worse! Ammonia is a sure sign they are or are going bad. The rest of our meal was fabulous as was our server; but disappointing that the manager wasn’t mature enough to talk to us.
