We went for our anniversary. The owner was wonderful. He made a special sushi roll for us . I brought food for our 6 month old( she is a very good happy baby no issues taking her to a proper restaurant), they provided a couple fresh items that was suitable for her to eat. I don't care for green tea, and since I nurse I wasn't drinking alcohol, the owner made a pea flower special blend tea not on the menu. He also gave us card signed by all the staff for our anniversary. It was a wonderful evening.

Food seemed like stereotypical sushi, overpriced for the area. The server was nice, manager seemed overbearing. the atmosphere was bland . Highly recommend trying other places.

Easily one of the top restaurants in the Midwest! Our server, Collin, was outstanding! He was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming, and he truly went above and beyond to make our experience exceptional. Every dish was beautifully prepared and incredibly delicious, with ingredient quality that clearly sets this restaurant apart!

Came in with some friends to celebrate the holidays. Our server was amazing, very sweet and attentive, very kind girl. While we felt like she was doing a great job. The manager would constantly continue to check up on us immediately after she would. We felt like he was rushing us out of our table, even though we had made a reservation. Although he was kind, it seemed rather fake, like he was just trying to push us out. I had went to the bathroom and heard him talking in the kitchen about having to push tables out asap (by the way walls are thin in the bathrooms, you can hear everything going on in the kitchen, including servers complaining about guests). While I realize we were there on a busier night and there were most likely reservations ahead of us. We had only been there 30 MINUTES!! And we’re still waiting for our food to hit the table. There were 4 of us total. Given the money on food and cocktails we spent (close to $200) I felt disrespected. It is one of my friend’s favorite places to dine. The food was spectacular and the kitchen staff seemed so pleasant. The manager unfortunately just seemed stressed and pushy. Personally turned me off. I’d resort to take out in the future, or a night where it is so dead, we could get the appropriate treatment and not feel like we are rushing a $200 meal.

My partner and I ate at Koji recently and had one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in Omaha. We started with the pork belly bun and the “KFC” bun — both were rich, flavorful, and perfectly crafted. Not long after, the chef surprised us with complimentary yakitori skewers (pork belly, chicken heart, and a spicy chicken–asparagus). It was such an unexpected touch and set the tone for the night.
For rolls, we ordered the Rangucci and the Rodeo, and also tried the Ichigo scallop plate with strawberry, basil, and yuzu. I’d never had raw scallop before, and it was incredibly delicate and bright. We also had the Yaki Gindara (butterfish with yuzu sumiso), which was recommended by our server and I really enjoyed. My partner thought it leaned a bit fishy, but he’s not usually into that style of sushi, so I don’t think that reflected on the dish itself. To my surprise, our server ended up removing it from the bill since it was her recommendation.
We enjoyed drinks as well — I had a Fundamental Pinot Noir, and my partner ordered a Moscow Mule. The pairings worked great with what we ordered.
Later in the meal, I added Okasan’s Eggroll. It comes with Thai chili sauce, but I asked if we could also try the sauce that comes with Koji’s Gyoza Empire. Our server mentioned they usually charge for that, but she still brought me a side. That pairing was unreal — I’d honestly come back just for that alone, and next time I’ll probably order the eggroll and the gyoza so I can use the sauce freely.
Above all, the service is what made the night memorable. Our server, Sage, was fantastic — kind, attentive, and clearly proud of the menu. Between the complimentary yakitori and removing the Yaki Gindara, we felt genuinely taken care of. Everything felt thoughtful, never rushed, and full of hospitality.
Koji has earned repeat business from us. I’d recommend it to anyone who loves modern Japanese flavors, creative rolls, and great energy. We’ll be back soon for sure!

Nice little trendy Sushi spot in a quaint strip mall. Not a huge variety, but very good quality.

Koji is a delightful establishment in Omaha. You might raise your eyebrows in finding fresh fish and Japanese tapas without an ocean nearby but Koji makes the magic happen. Koji is absolutely legit and you should try it out whether you're a fan or not of yakitoris or sushi.
Koji is not your traditional Japanese izakaya. They are quite progressive in their creations, especially where they have the freedom to experiment (ie. appetizer section and rolls). Some are great. But also some concotions may confuse your palate. I love the fact that they are experimenting but the fact that it has made it to the menu means someone has made the decision to ship it. I actually think Koji might massively benefit from swinging the pendulum a bit more towards mainstream or traditional recipes.
Now the area where they do stay more traditional is their yakitoris or grilled meat skewers. And they are definitely some of the highlights. Now some may come with progressive sauces but thank god they put it on the side so you can skip it. The yakitoris at Koji really are legit and tasty. I highly recommend just going to Kojis for beer and yakitori itself is worth multiple times over.
Finally, let's talk about the sushi. The technique of the sushi itself isn't the best of the best. Don't get me wrong - the sushis are quite good. But compared to some of the nation's best in California or NYC, it's definitely a step or two below. The fish used is quite fresh but again, not as fresh as you would experience at the coast. Again, I can't ding them for this given the location. But also I want to be fair and objective.
Koji's is absolutely a must-visit location in Omaha. Whether you like sushis or yakitoris, it is worth the visit and every cent of your money. My only hope is that they tune down the progressiveness a bit over time. The effort is there. The attention to detail is there. It just needs a bit of tweaking.
