I have 15+ years of chef and culinary experience, despite this, I am lax and low-key about most dining experiences, and I want to cement that I’m not angry with this experience, just frustrated and disappointed.
We came in for lunch, around 1:45 or so, and the restaurant was mostly quiet. The atmosphere and vibe was really cozy and nostalgic in a laid-back ski lodge way, which was really welcoming.
Staff was friendly and kind, and appropriately attentive. Food came out quick, but was extremely disappointing for the majority of the table.
Onion rings were pretty terrible, with a somewhat sweet hush puppy (southern fried cornbread type dough) texture and taste, which sounds good in theory, but they were a very weird, lacking-in-seasoning experience. The butternut squash salad looked very nice, and the flavour of the grilled chicken was good however it was incredibly dry and a little tough.
The butternut squash was firm in the middle, somewhat uncooked so it has a soft outside and a firm, crunchy inside, and was not flavorful. The poppyseed dressing was very gross, tasting and texture of common refined oil with some poppyseeds in a tasteless emulsion. I got an extra cup of it for my salad from the very kind waitress that served us, and everybody at the table stuck their pinky in it to test, and all agreed that it was very bad.
The waiter did their best to serve us, was attentive and kind and tried their best to make the salad experience better.
I didn’t eat more than a forkful of romaine and chicken, yet it wasn’t taken off the bill. Instead the two root beers we got were taken off, even though they were not an issue. I’m not sure why this is how they decided to cut our bill.
I hope this was just a luck bad day for the kitchen and this isn’t how the food always is, so sending good vibes and luck your way, Mad River Tavern.
Thank you for having us.
We ordered burgers and a salad for takeout. The burgers were undercooked, and our $10 salad consisted of a small amount of lettuce and a couple of diced tomatoes and peppers; the poppyseed dressing had very little flavor. It was a pretty disappointing salad. Overall the burgers were just okay. For the money we spent, I would’ve hoped for something better. They were also out of to-go bags, which the hostess apologized for. She was friendly and helpful.
Another late lunch early dinner with my honey.Spicy maple and Parmesan wings, and a steak wrap with fresh cut fries. All were awesome and came out quickly. 5 rum punch yummy. Our bartender was great.
I’ve never had anything less than a great experience at MRT. Whether it’s a traditional entree style meal or something quick in the bar, they always hit the mark.
amazing food great service burgers and garlic parmesan garlic fries are out of this world
Maybe we were there on an off day but the food wasn’t fully cooked. The fries were cold and mushy. The onion rings and fish were okay. The service was friendly but slow.
Warm and welcoming pub! They were open on Xmas Eve. Super close to the mountains and scenic areas!
They have a unique black bear lager (bear bones from North brewing) that's exclusive to this place! Tastes super nice with a Guinness float on top!
Pub food...not exciting.

What a disappointing visit. We sat at the bar on a Sunday night and the service was the worst that we’ve had in a long time. We only had soup and salad and that was adequate, but the service really ruined the evening.
We had to ask for menus, silverware & napkins, salt & pepper, water, and separately, knives. We had no real social interaction either. Kinda wished we left. 😕

I've tried several times to have dinner or lunch here and everytime I am disappointed. Food is undercooked or still frozen, other times overcooked and hard...idk I'm just not a fan. It's too bad too.

We had one of the best burgers I’ve ever had in America. The service was wonderful. On April 8, 2024, we were trying to get to the furthest point to see the total eclipse, but traffic was heavy and the kids were hungry. That’s when we found this spot on the map—what a great find! We enjoyed a nice lunch, had a great time, and made some amazing memories.

Very good food. Great atmosphere.
Everything about this place was great, with the exception of the wait time for our food.
Maybe it was a bad day, but it took about 40 min. to get our meals after ordering.
Delicious food, awesome environment, nice staff.
Would definitely recommend.
