Just left Taverne and will not go back unless a few things improve. Had a reservation for 3 for dinner at 7. Walked in a little early to a mostly empty restaurant and was seated immediately to the right of the hostess stand; asked to have table moved and they accommodated us. The new table was marginally better. Server was nice however one of us ordered a Vodka Gimlet "up" with ice on side and it was served with a cherry- on ice -this is not how a gimlet is made. I Got a BLT which was fine. Hard to mess up a BLT. Others ordered the Delmonico steak which was average. Other party member ordered Pasta Primavera - it was swimming in a butter-like oil which had very little flavor. A very disappointing dinner for one of us diners and marginal for the other two. Needless we did not stay for dessert and feel bad because our server and other customers deserve better.

Went in for dinner. I had the smoked bacon cheddar burger plus side order of Cole slaw, my wife had fish and chips. I ordered the burger cooked medium, it came out rare, and greasy. Couldn't pick it up, one bite and my fingers were covered with cheese and grease. Both our french fries were small pieces and most over cooked. The real surprised came from the check. No where does it say if you use a credit or debit card you will be charged a 3% charge until you get your final bill. 3% isn't a lot, it's the surprise. I and my wife probably won't go back, not because of the 3%, but because the meal wasn't worth the cost.

Friday night, service was attentive. Specials sheet inside the book was for Thursday, not Friday. Happy Hour exists, but nobody employed knew what the details were. In general, the wait staff was not trained well. Sounds like a management issue. Harvest salad is good, wings were good, local musical talent was super.

The family was in town for a ski trip to Okemo. This place is such a gem. I got apple cider chicken breasts with cole slaw and mashed potatoes. Service and food was excellent and very reasonably priced.Vegetarian options: Vegan chicken that my daughter got she loved.

We have been coming to Claremont for four years now and just discovered Tavern on the Square. It is our new “go to” spot here. The location is ideal, the building is very attractive inside and out. We went for an early supper and caught happy hour prices on draft beers and house wines, when the bill came we discovered just how great of a deal it was…$4 beers and house wines. The waitress was excellent, we told her we were not in a hurry so we ordered appetizers one at a time. The crab Rangoon dip was delicious the fried wontons for chips was a neat touch. The French Onion soup was very tasty but not quite hot enough for my liking. We both got small salads with chicken for our dinners that were absolutely fantastic, the chicken breast was still a little warm so it could not have been fresher. The vibe in the tavern is great and the place was busy for a Wednesday. The bar was full of locals so you know that is a great sign. We will be back for sure!
