My husband and I come to visit (and ATV) at least once a month. We typically stay right at the Bear. Rooms are clean and the service in the bar is spectacular. Michelle, Nina, Diane, Tricia and the rest of the crew are top notch!!
This time, though…I was very disappointed (not in the service…but in the food). I love hand cut chicken tenders and typically have them wherever I go. I look forward to checking in every time because black bear has (in my opinion) chicken tenders that rank top 5 in the state!! NOT so this last visit (Memorial Day weekend). The chicken tenders (if you want to call them that) that I got appeared to be some sort of frozen icky over breaded chicken rib meat that would be served in a fast food restaurant. I couldn’t even eat them. Bring back the original hand breaded tenders…because a couple of my other favorite chicken tenders in the 603 are North of the 45th!!

We been coming up to New Hampshire from Connecticut for the past 4 years. We rent a cabin in the mountains for a couple days once a year, and always make sure we come down for lunch. The staff is so wonderful and kind we haven’t had a bad experience. The food is top notch, everything that we have ordered has been delicious. If you’re looking for a place to eat with your family. I highly recommend we will be back next winter when we come back.

The Motel was surprisingly above my expectations. The room was big, 2 queens beds, TV, heat, clean bathroom. The area is remote so most places including the front desk was closed by 4pm. But I'd definitely stay here again.

the staff are always friendly , great bunch to hang out with. the food is always on spot, the black and blue burger is wicked good ,highly recomend it . great flavor and just the right amount of heat. I always get xtra bottle caps ( they're deep fried hot peppers 🌶 sooo good ) and the French fries are the best around, perfectly seasoned and just the right crunch.. prices are comparable.

The Truth
I've been visiting Black Bear for several years and have always liked it but something has changed. The prices are still high but the food has downgraded. I could always count on a good size burger from here (should be for $17) but the half pound burger I normally get looked more like a sad quarter pounder this time. A year ago they offered a killer chicken & waffles dish that could feed 2 people but now it's not on the menu. I don't know if they had a change in cooks or are skimming back on portions but unfortunately your not getting what you should for the prices they are charging. I hope they correct this because I really did like this place but for now I can't justify going back for awhile.

Heavyset brunette 40ish Waitress was so busy just talking with other coworkers & customers. Not about the food, job, or customer's needs. I always tip at least 22 to 30 percent because I used to be a waitress, but when a waitress just purposefully is there for a get together with her other covworkers or patrons I am so NOT impressed! Food is great but she didn't even bring out all the condiments that were supossed to go with it in the menu description. We had to ask for the salsa that should have been brought out when she delivered the meal. I cannot stand when you are waiting 15 minutes for a drink refill but the waitress is too busy playing around, shooting the breeze to even notice you it is a HUGE irritation!

There were 5 of us, but the place wasn't extremely busy. We all ordered, and it took a bit for the order to come out. 2 people got appetizers, and we asked for separate checks because some of us were couples. After the appetizers were served, 4 out of the 5 orders came out. When questioned, the waitress said she pressed the wrong button for the 5th person and had to reorder his. We were all done our meals by the time his order came out. They gave him his appetizer for free, so they said, but it ended up on my tab! The food was good, and maybe our waitress was new or something

We drove from our cabin at Deer mountain campground in Pittsburg and it was totally worth it. We were seated right away, the staff was great and service was fast and friendly. My son ordered the 4 cheese Mac and cheese with garlic bread which he loved. I ordered the maple glazed salmon with mashed potatoes and gravy and string beans. OMG...the best salmon I ever had ! The mashed potatoes and gravy was also delicious. I will definitely visit again when I'm in the area next year. Oh...I also had a black bear moose slide that was awesome ! 👍
