There is nothing NOT to love about Black Bear Tavern...words are useless in this context, just arrive & experience!

Lisa was our server. She was very nice, prompt and helpful. We come to Moose Alley once a year and wanted to try out Black Bear Tavern. I had a Black Bear Moose Slide wow that was so delicious. I had the pan-seared scallops very yummy. Would highly recommend. We also left a note in the guest book where we stayed recommending others to give it a try. Thanks for a great meal and very friendly server.

Poutine was great!. BLTs were also amazeballs. We got it to go but the service was great. Ambience was really cool.

My husband and I come to visit (and ATV) at least once a month. We typically stay right at the Bear. Rooms are clean and the service in the bar is spectacular. Michelle, Nina, Diane, Tricia and the rest of the crew are top notch!!

This time, though…I was very disappointed (not in the service…but in the food). I love hand cut chicken tenders and typically have them wherever I go. I look forward to checking in every time because black bear has (in my opinion) chicken tenders that rank top 5 in the state!! NOT so this last visit (Memorial Day weekend). The chicken tenders (if you want to call them that) that I got appeared to be some sort of frozen icky over breaded chicken rib meat that would be served in a fast food restaurant. I couldn’t even eat them. Bring back the original hand breaded tenders…because a couple of my other favorite chicken tenders in the 603 are North of the 45th!!

My visit to Black Bear Tavern was overall pleasant.  The atmosphere was typical for a pub.  Many finishes were dated but seemed clean.  The waitress was friendly and courteous.  The food was reasonably priced, delicious, and well presented.  I ordered the schnitzel sandwich with a side of fries.  Everything was clearly made fresh with quality ingredients and carefully prepared.  The sandwhich was crispy, colorful, flavorful, and not too filling.  The fries were crispy and nicely salted.  Nothing was soggy or runny.  If I were to visit Colebrook, NH again, I would possibly return to Black Bear Tavern for another visit.

Our servers name was Scooby, and she was wonderful! We had a couple hiccups with the kitchen, but otherwise everything went great, highly recommend this stop if you find yourself in Colebrook NH!

We been coming up to New Hampshire from Connecticut for the past 4 years. We rent a cabin in the mountains for a couple days once a year, and always make sure we come down for lunch. The staff is so wonderful and kind we haven’t had a bad experience. The food is top notch, everything that we have ordered has been delicious. If you’re looking for a place to eat with your family. I highly recommend we will be back next winter when we come back.

The Motel was surprisingly above my expectations. The room was big, 2 queens beds, TV, heat, clean bathroom. The area is remote so most places including the front desk was closed by 4pm. But I'd definitely stay here again.

the staff are always friendly , great bunch to hang out with. the food is always on spot, the black and blue burger is wicked good ,highly recomend it . great flavor and just the right amount of heat. I always get xtra bottle caps ( they're deep fried hot peppers 🌶 sooo good ) and the French fries are the best around, perfectly seasoned and just the right crunch.. prices are comparable.

The Truth

I've been visiting Black Bear for several years and have always liked it but something has changed. The prices are still high but the food has downgraded. I could always count on a good size burger from here (should be for $17) but the half pound burger I normally get looked more like a sad quarter pounder this time. A year ago they offered a killer chicken & waffles dish that could feed 2 people but now it's not on the menu. I don't know if they had a change in cooks or are skimming back on portions but unfortunately your not getting what you should for the prices they are charging. I hope they correct this because I really did like this place but for now I can't justify going back for awhile.
