Fantasic food, service, and spirits. The biscuits and gravy were sweet, which threw off the southerners we were hosting. However, they said it was really good, just different! The French toast was AMAZING, and their house maide lemonaid was delicious!

There didn’t appear to be much in the way of food options within walking distance from our hotel, so a couple of friends and I came here. The menu was extensive, but it took a little while for us to be served. Staff were nice enough, if not overly keen nor enthusiastic, and I don’t recall them smiling once. Our food was finally served — the veggie stir-fry looked and smelt good (but my friend said it was more like soup and she only ate half of it) and the other meal that was ordered — a fish sandwich — came with bread, though my friend had specifically asked for no bread. Worst part was that the floor under our table was suuuuuuper sticky — my shoes were sticky for days afterward. Gross.

New to the area so we actually thought that we were at the Stratford Family Farm restaurant. We ended up at the Back 40 Grille. The clam and scallop plates were mediocre and overpriced; $34.00 for each. The seafood chowder was milky with very little flavor to the chowder broth. We won’t be back.

Not the best food. Blueberry pancakes were horrible. But the service wasn't bad. In and out in 49 mins.

Food is very good here. I ordered a sausage pizza for the first time. Pizza was full of sausage. Heather my waitress was quick, polite and funny. Chicken Fingers is a must to order. Homemade ice cream is very good. The dining room is updated in relaxing colors and red booths. Dianne and Toni are great for breakfast and lunch. All three are awesome and make sure to ask for them. Very clean and relaxing. Kim and Peter the owners are very friendly. Never had any problems.Ashley the manager helps out everyone and stop by every table. There is a function room that seats up to 40 people. A bar called the Loft upstairs. The Back 40 out back services home made ice cream and food. Great stop if you heading north to the mountains or south to Portsmouth.

Great bar tender. Very friendly and attentive. Good beer selection! And good food! Everyone that goes there is friendly. Great place for bar food and beer, meet up with friends after work. I'd definitely check it out if you are looking for a friendly, relaxed atmosphere with good food and a pretty good beer selection. With a few local beers on draft.

HORRIBLE! This is my 1st ever review so that’s how you know I do t complain but I just got a dry double cheeseburger to share with my 2YO son & only a handful of dry fries for $12 then his father got baked haddock that was not even cooked & was only a few bites with 1 tiny scoop of watery potatoes for $18! I’ll NEVER be going back! WASTE OF MONEY!

This is my first time reviewing a restaurant simply to warn others not to spend their money here. My fiancé and I went for an early dinner. We ordered their bacon wrapped jalapeños for an app. We were informed that they might be out of stock, but when they were brought out they were very clearly not made the same day and seemed a day or two old. No big deal, let it slide, but I ordered a salad and all of the ingredients were not fresh. The dressing that was brought out was dusty and old and had a terrible smell. The waitress acknowledged these things and simply shrugged. They could care less about the garbage food and poor quality ingredients they sell to people. Terrible customer service, waste of a $60 dinner just to waste food.

Have been coming here since 1986. Warm, friendly atmosphere. "Where everybody knows your name" kind of place.Meal quality is erratic, often falling far short of the mark. Appetizers generally 3/5 stars.

We went to the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon, first time there for our party of 4. We followed the sign upstairs to the Loft . There was a bar upstairs as well as tables. We waited to be seated as we were unsure of the set up . There were a few patrons at the bar and a man ( bartender) clearing tables . We stood for a while unsure of whether to seat ourselves. The man cleaning table saw us and made eye contact but turned away and went back behind the bar without acknowledging us . We decided to go back downstairs and into the restaurant on the ground level . There we were greeted promptly and seated in a booth. We ordered drinks and appetizers to start. We got chicken fingers and jalapeños stuffed with cheese and bacon . The chicken fingers were tender but tasteless, definitely needed the dipping sauces provided . Jalapeños were very mild almost mistaken for a green bell pepper. We asked for Tabasco sauce to liven them up . We order sirloin tips cooked ( rare) and scallop combo . The tips were cut into small pieces . Texture was good but not juicy at all and very bland tasting . Mashed potatoes and coleslaw also unimpressive. Scallops were a good portion and cooked properly. Our waitress was nice and pleasant to our party but she couldn’t make up for the mediocre food . It was an OK meal but we won’t try it again with so many other options nearby.

We’ve been coming here for 50 years and were customers of Strafford Farms Dairy before that. I’ve never had a poor experience and the food is always delicious. I live more than a half hour away now but make it a point to stop when I am in Dover.

I went this morning to have breakfast and it to over 5 mins to get coffee. We placed our order and when the food came the home fries look so dark and burned. I cut into my eggs Benedict and the egg was raw. The waitress said that the reason the home fries were dark cuz of the oil. If this is the case change it!!!! Over the yrs this place has gone down hill. It really is to bad because the were good at one time. I'm also wishing the reward program was different cuz I can't get there when they say I can use the points. I have $25 in points and can only use them on Wednesdays or Thursdays which most people can't use them because of work.
