This place is a gem. Our first time here and we were all happy with our meals and service. Will be a definite stop when in Durham area.

My husband and I had the shrimp piccata and it was very zesty and delicious. They even offer gluten free pasta with it. Our friends had the haddock and they enjoyed their meal as well. Our server was super and made the night even better!

When we arrived were told to go downstairs. They didn't really acknowledge that we had a reservation and seemed a little disorganized. They sat us in the 'pub' and then proceeded to ignore us. They were not busy. Eventually someone came and apologized for the wait. Food was good but nothing special. Waitress was friendly. They had an event going on which made our dining experience very loud! will not hurry back.

Celebrating a UNH graduate's accomplishments...food was great, server (Romayne) did a wonderful job presenting the menu and explaining the specials!

Terrible! When booking this weekend we were not told we would have to order from a graduation menu. A huge scam. Paid 45 a plate for a small piece of salmon and 50 each for a 12oz steak. That being said the quality of food was very average.

We did not care for the limited, overpriced "Graduation" menu. Roasted brussels sprouts not tender or crispy. Pasta for most expensive (seafood) dish was limp/not fresh. Seemed like dishes were pre-cooked. Disappointing given we have been to Three Chimneys many, many times. Service was very good as usual.

I booked this for lunch after my son's graduation from UNH. I called to make the reservation and they didn't bother to inform me that there would be a limited menu, not the one of the one on the website. My son is vegan, and the regular menu had some vegan options, but the limited one did not. I'm a big fan of AC, but the table we had was not dark and freezing cold. Overall terrible experience for an important occasion.

The salmon was underwhelming but my salad and soup was yummy! The bottle of wine we shared was delicious!

Dinner experience was great. Food was wonderful, not run of the mill, with extra touches that made it surprising and fabulous. And the prices are much lower than the Portsmouth prices that we're used to. Be back soon!

We went here for Restaurant Week , when you would expect restaurants to put forward their best to get new customers to return. First - the drinks were excellent. My husband had the espresso martini - 2 of them1 and I had the Creamsicle - really good. Appetizers - Salad was very good, as was the fried brussel spouts. If we stopped right here we would have been happy and if you go for drinks and apps everything will be just fine -but Entree - We both ordered the swordfish. It came prefrozen, cooked from frozen, and absolutely hammered. To make up for that, the asparagus was raw. Not tendercrisp, raw. Dessert- I got the limoncello cake. Not too bad, slightly reminicent of childrens aspirin. My husband got the chocolate mousse, which was simply chocolate whipped cream, not mousse at all. We haven't been to this restaurant for several years, but remembered it as excellent, so this was a big let down. Sorry we couldn't give it a better review.

Portsmouth Restaurant Week three $42 Three-Course Meal options to choose from. I enjoyed the Summer Berry Salad, Pesto Tortellini, and Limoncello Cake. Service was perfectly timed through the dinner being served, but there was quite a bit of a wait between finishing dinner, and the dessert being served. It is a tavern, so noise level was acceptable as such. I would not mind going again, for their regular menu.

Sadly, we were very underwhelmed with our dinner last night at the Three Chimney's Inn. To start my wife's clam chowder had too much tarragon which took away from the taste the chowder. They should've called it tarragon soup. My wife's swordfish, undercooked, jasmine rice, undercooked asparagus undercooked. To end her meal my wife ordered a gluten-free chocolate sorbet, which she said if you close your eyes, you couldn't tell what it was because there was no taste to the ice cream. I ordered a NY strip steak medium rare but it was rare. Our waitress was very attentive, apologetic, and she did comp my wife's meal but there was no manager to be found to take accountability for our time. We even booked our reservation early in the evening to avoid any rush on the kitchen, but their eye was not on the ball with our meal. Hopefully, management and the head chef will do better.

First time here. We were going to sit upstairs but decided to check out the tavern before dinner and there we stayed. Great vibe, food and service. The staff is extremely friendly and want to make sure you enjoy. We will be back!

EDIT INCLUDED BELOW! If you run into any issues don't expect staff to make it right.
As much as I appreciate the grounds, which are lovely, I can't look past the lack of care for guest experience.
We were placed in a room that I didn't ask for. I booked months in advance for a room I wasn't given. When I brought it up I was told the room I was given was bigger. No apology, no trying to make it right. Lindsey never noted what I'd asked her to note which was a specific room.
We had a howling dog at night and very early morning. And if you're in room 9 you're next to a staff utility area and expect NOISE.
Bathtub had black mold.

I won't be coming back.

Edit: I did get a response. It was after posting this review. It was *after* posting a public review.

The room *with black mold in the tub* was visually beautiful.

I did get a deposit refund.

I did not edit til close to two months later.

I would like to thank you so much for the candid and open response 2 months later. Seems ethical. V mature. Looks like my issue is more of a systemic problem.

Still won't patron again.

This is our third time dining here. We saw they were on the fall Portsmouth Restaurant Week lineup so we figured we would try it again. We had reservations for the three of us (wife, daughter, and myself) at 6:30pm Friday night. We arrived a little early (6:20) and were seated immediately. They weren’t overly busy when we were seated so we thought it was odd that it took 15 minutes for anyone to talk to us. We placed our drink order and the three of us ordered off the restaurant week menu. It’s was OVER AN HOUR before the food was brought to the table. The manager came over at one point and apologized saying something about “thanks for your patience, guys, I know it shouldn’t take six hours for a salad to come out!! The food itself was a joke. I had planned on getting the Jefferson Fried Chicken…I’d gotten that both times before…but when my daughter ordered the New England Pot Roast, I caved and ordered that. Another mistake. They both came out with dry meat on top…obviously not slow roasted in-house. The few chunks of meat I had were either too fatty or just dry as a bone. It was thrown on top of the mashed potatoes and the slices of carrots thrown beside it. Presentation hadn’t entered the chat yet. My wife’s Stuffed Acorn Squash was literally one small squash stuffed and thrown on a plate. Nothing else on the plate. Zero presentation. In the end, we thought they’d comp us something, but nope. I left the waitress $30 and will never go back.
