We live in Vermont, 15 minutes from Hanover and are big fans of Murphy's, where the owner is on site and very much involved. Good staff, good pint of Guinness, and on this particular night the Italian wedding soup, at 9 bucks a bowl, was a meal in itself. Good stuff.
Poor service and unsatisfactory food. First issue was that our server forgot to enter the order for one of the main courses and then when asked later after a long wait, claimed that the order was almost ready (when in fact he had forgotten, as confirmed later by the manager.) second issue was that our nachos order (which cost $14 btw) had a measly portion of chips served without salsa sauce and without guacamole. When asked later, they said that they did not have salsa or pico sauce. Why bother?
Disappointing experience at Murphys last night. Sat down at 6:45 and had the most incompetent waiter ever. It wasn't especially crowded but he kept saying how crazy it was. He took our orders for one shared appetizer and three entrees. We waited a while and then someone else delivered the appetizer and two entrees at the same time. We told that person we had another entree. Our waiter came over about 10 mins later and said - everything good here? And started to walk away and we said no - we are waiting for the other entree. He looked stunned and said oh! We waited another 20 minutes while our entrees got cold waiting for the kitchen to make the third entree, which he had clearly forgotten to put in. No apologies, no explanation. No checking in to see if we needed more drinks, which we did. I made quick eye contact with him to see if we could get his attention for drinks, and he quickly turned and went the other way. Unbelievable. We would have been happy with comp'd drinks or dessert, but he never came back to our table and let other servers deliver the 3rd entree and the check. The food was meh, cold, and underwhelming. The fish and chips had one thin piece of fish. The burger was no better than Wendy's. Vibe was fun and lively as usual, but we just kept getting more annoyed so the atmosphere couldn't compensate for bad food and worse, subpar service.
Food was very poor, and nothing tasted fresh. I've been here many times before, and was very disappointed that I don't plan on going back.
Charming ambiance and waitress but the rubber chicken protein add-on for 2 pasta dishes was undersized and, initially, forgotten by the kitchen for one. Salmon dish tasted “off” while the winners were steak tips and steak frites, not too mention the appetizers. On the whole, very meh.
Excellent burgers. Other food was decent. Great atmosphere. The restaurant was crowded but the sound was absorbed well by the books in the wall etc. Friendly servers. A great place to have a beer and bite on a cold night.
Our waitress was so sweet & kind & very accommodating. We had a booth in the window which made for great people watching & we felt like we were in a Hallmark movie. Food was delicious and service was top notch.
We were six people and had made a reservation. Very limited menu on a Sunday afternoon. It was busy, but not full. Service was slow, the bar was particularly slow. Had to order our 2nd drink twice, and when it was delivered the glasses were only 2/3 full for a supposed house specialty cocktail Murphy Old Fashioned. The food was ok. Cauliflower appetizer was very good; Chicken wings were simply dropped in a fryer with Rub and Sauce on the side. Usually, I ask for the sauce on the side, but not the dry rub. Salad was small and overdressed. Murphy burger was good. Chicken sandwich was very good. I have been here before and was surprised with our experience. The Guiness is always good, although I did not have one this visit.
My son and I had a fantastic meal and evening at Murphys on the Green. The brussel sprouts appetizer was delicious. For our mains we had the steak tips and fusilli à la vodka and the pasta was some of the best we’ve ever had. The atmosphere and hospitality were top notch. Nigel made us feel right at home - we will be back!
This is a cozy yet elegant, warm, timeless spot. The servers are friendly and attentive, the food is delicious, and the owner Nigel is absolutely wonderful — so kind and welcoming. Plus he sat us in the back room so we could be away from the football game noise in the bar area. Perfect! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and will be back anytime I'm in the area.

Lively college pub vibe. Super loud, limited menu, inedible chicken on my pasta, but other entrees were good.
I had an excellent meal at Murphy's. My server placed me at a choice table. She was attentive, engaging, and efficient. My pasta dish with side salad of baby kale was scrumptious.
I was expecting better food from a restaurant that had an executive chef. The food was fine but definitely could have been better for the price.
Great food. Gluten free option for wings. Meh on service.

Was there 2 weeks in a row. Chef embarrassed himself with the portion size- but the manager saved the meal! The second week was much improved!
