Had the tour of Italy. All the food was great. Except for the bread sticks which were over salty and would be better if they were a little more doughy. Atmosphere is ok, but the chairs are cheap and wobble front to back. There was a bunch of dings in table top. The silverware had spots on them. Olive garden costs more so I expect a little more.

I went to lunch at the Olive Garden located in Newington on February 19th with my husband. I just wanted to share that our server named Jenna was very pleasant and attentive throughout our time there. She treated her other customers with the same attention and respect. She should be compensated or promoted for her good work. She was a breath of fresh air!

The music is always really terrible and loud. The silverware is pretty much always covered in water spots and even pieces of old food, enough to turn the stomach. I bring my own.Smoothies always have chunks of ice in them when I get them. The decor and lights are absolutely caked in dust.Waitstaff is often very slow bringing salad and bread refills. Some of the waitstaff is extremely rude, but others are extremely friendly. Shane being one; he’s great! There’s also a waitress whose name I sadly don’t know, and she is also amazing. I will figure out her name next time we get her, so I can add it here. There’s also another waiter who we haven’t seen in a while that we love. I unfortunately also don’t know his name, but I will figure it out if we ever have him again. All are super welcoming and a pleasure to have! The bathrooms smell pretty bad, but, at least in the men’s, there’s not usually much, if any, visible grime or trash. The women’s is often much dirtier, and the women I go out to eat with avoid using the bathrooms here as much as possible. The food is usually prompt and as ordered, though sometimes too prompt since you don’t always have enough time to enjoy the bread and salad first. That’s why I usually take my entrée home with me. You can eat the salad (or soup, if you get that) and just bring the rest home to eat the next day (except Alfredo, not good left over). Not too expensive for most dishes. Can get extremely busy at times, but not too often. Usually only a few minutes’ wait for a party of 6 and no wait for 2–4.They will put three and even four people at tiny square tables with barely any space, so we always ask not to be seated there. It just shouldn’t have more than two people at it. They set them up away from the wall though so that they can squeeze four people in.They’re pretty disorganized in how they seat people. They seat small parties (1–2 people) at large tables meant for six people and squish large parties at smaller tables surprisingly often. The managers are mostly all very nice and will generally try to help right any problems that come up. They’ll often come up to tables just to check in with all the customers and make sure everything it is going well.TL; DR: Some good things (food, most of the prices, most of the staff, etc.), some bad (dirty silverware, smelly bathrooms, loud and bad music, etc.)

When I first entered Olive Garden this evening, I was skeptical. Skeptical for many reasons, but mainly due to an unfortunate event in my past regarding the loss of a friend. Hearing the news of their passing at an Olive Garden had really soured the bottomless breadstick for me, and I hadn't dared step a foot in since. On this night however, what with Panera being out of bread bowls, I was tasked with a decision I didn't know if I could make: go without soup for the night or enter Olive Garden and face whatever feelings might come up. I decided it was time. I entered the Olive Garden at a quiet hour, hearing the serenades of Italian music and 50 year old women discussing insurance over two cups of tea. With my partner across me, we sat down and looked over the menu. I got the minestrone soup in honor of MLK day (they both start with M ), and he ordered a salad. It was so simple so far, and yet I felt daunted by the task ahead of me: what to eat, what was I eating that day, and would it all happen again??? Now, you may call anxious or overly superstitious or simply a crazy woman making up ideas about the lure of Olive Garden and fated events, and that's all okay. Amanda was our server, and she guided me graciously through this experience. I considered the lasagna classico, a food that reminded me of the layers of memories I was going to unpack over this meal. I asked our wonderful server Amanda, who looked so strikingly akin to a dear friend of mine from high school who grew up to be a strong lawyer, what she thought of the lasagna. Amanda said that she preferred the Tour of Italy. For those of you unaware of what the Tour of Italy consists of which I will make you aware now: Lasagne, Fettuccine Alfredo, and Chicken Parmesan. I would like to acknowledge the charm of Olive Garden utilizing three choices together to pay tribute to the Holy Trinity . This is where the Tour of Italy took me on a Tour of my Trauma. I know some of you are scoffing at this post, but please consider the time I have taken to process these moments of my life and the bravery I have to share this experience with you all. My first bite was of the lasagna. The sides were rubbery, and the taste reminded me of the first time I had tried chef boyardee as a child. I had a flashback to sitting at my kitchen table in my childhood home, my mother too stressed to cook a meal, sliding a hot plate (the plate was hot from the microwave) of chef boyardee lasagna in front of me and apologizing about how dad wasn't there for dinner this week or the week before. Second was the Fettucine Alfredo, whose classic taste and texture parallels the experience of a sunburn while vacationing on a ski trip (if you know, you know!) The white sauce, the white slopes, and the white blisters on the back of my neck after a day out. Lastly, the Chicken Parm. This was the moment that I had a tear well up in my eye. Sitting across from me, my partner looked at me empathetically, reaching a hand across the table. "You can skip this one," he assured. I shook my head, this was the moment that we had been leading up to all night. I grabbed my knife and made the first slice. I think now is the time I tell you all what happened to my dear friend. It was after a night of ghost hunting, we all went out to dinner at Olive Garden. My dear friend ordered the chicken parm- not knowing that he had severe allergy to tomato. After eating the entire plate and making our way home, they had anaphylaxis and passed away that very night. That's why the chicken parm is hard for me. I took a bite. It tasted nostalgic; it tasted like the last night of fun and laughs with a friend. I finished my plate, ate a breadstick to relax me, and finished my water which tasted like windex with a lemon in it. Amanda walked over, she asked how everything was, we answered positively. I simply didn't think I could admit to her what tonight had meant to me. As we went to leave, I watched a little girl crawl around on the floor underneath a table eating pieces of shredded cheese off of t
