Not local but had patronized this establishment years ago. My husband and I sat at the bar and enjoyed great conversation and fantastic food. I ordered the haddock. My husband had scallops.
Couldn't have been more pleased. Will definitely return on our next visit to Portsmouth.

Amazing atmosphere in a beautiful space. The focus is fresh seafood and they didn’t disappoint. Textbook dishes, the lobster bisque is out of this world! The fresh fish selection is amazing. The wine list is superior and rivals restaurants from around the world.

As many reviewers have said: this is predominantly a fish restaurant. I believe there two non-fish items on the menu. Be that as it may, the food is out of this world. I had the Thai Halibut while my wife had a Lobster dish. Both were superb! The Mango Tiramisu is to die for. If you are looking for high quality dining in Portsmouth, Jay’s is definitely the place to go.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We went on a Monday night. It wasn’t super crowded. They do not have a kids menu, but will make off menu items like chicken tenders for kids.

Our server was outstanding. He told us about a computer glitch they were having and apologized ahead of time. I don't think we noticed, as the staff covered everything professionally.
We started with the Lobster Bisque and Crispy Lobster egg rolls. The bisque was good, although the lobster was a bit chewy. Husband said the egg rolls were fine.
I ordered one of the catch of the day items, monkfish. It came with whipped potatoes and the seasonal veggies. The fish was cooked beautifully, as was the rest of the dish. My husband had the Maine scallops. He also said they were cooked nicely. Our only issue was that all the food was so bland. No special sauces or seasonings. I don't like my food very spicy and I never add salt to anything...but tonight I asked for salt to add to this dish. It helped a tiny bit, but wasn't what it needed. For me to think something is bland is very unusual.
Being tourist season in town, the place was quite busy and loud. Despite that, the servers were really on the ball.

Been many times over the years, so stopped by again last week. As usual the food was outstanding. Had the blue Tuna, wife had the Thai Halibut, son had the Haddock Picatta, his Friend had the Scallops. The veggies were fresh and delicious. Add in the fact that Mitch our server was incredible and it made for a great night. Looking for GREAT seafood, just jump in and visit Jay

Service is beyond excellent and so was the food. Very delicious! The atmosphere was good but not quite excellent. I will look forward to coming again next time I am in Portsmouth. Thank you.
