RIP PB. Can’t count the number of times I have been here through the years for business and pleasure. Just learned the news:

The Portsmouth Brewery—New Hampshire’s oldest brewpub, founded in 1991—suffered a catastrophic sprinkler-line flood in June 2023. After temporarily closing for what was initially expected to be repairs, the co‑owners officially announced in May 2024 that they would not be reopening; the building and assets were put up for sale instead .
• June 17, 2023 – A sprinkler pipe burst, causing massive flooding and forcing closure .
• May 17, 2024 – Owners confirmed the closure was permanent and listed the property and brewery assets for sale .

So while the initial shutdown occurred in mid-2023, the definitive closure was announced in May 2024.

Karma! Bad deeds don’t go unnoticed!Reply to owner response:I’d like people to judge your character, with your lies and spinning of events. If you can’t change the facts change the narrative.Never did I disrespect the bartender or manager, nor was I upset until after my interaction with the manager. Frankly, I was rather calm for someone who was just soaked in beer and bleeding. Accidents happen and I would never treat hardworking servers like that for an honest mistake. The way an establishment handles mistakes is the point of the review, I think you just answered the point of my review. The bartender was upset because she felt horrible about pouring a beer on me and my daughter and cutting my hand. You should be ashamed for spreading misinformation to try and make a customer look like the aggressor. As far as picking up the tab, you should pick up the tab. I ordered a beer and my daughter had a glass of tap water. The beer never touched my lips. Maybe your policy is to charge customers for beer spilled on them and tap water isn’t free?Glad you responded, so potential customers can see what your establishment is really about. Shameful!Original review:Soaked in beer and bleeding…..waited 15 minutes for a manager to tell me it’s an accident and we’re not paying for your dry cleaning unless you bring in the receipt. Yes, it’s an accident but my daughter and I are soaked in beer, I’m bleeding from the chards of glass imbedded in my hand. I know the pandemic has made it hard to find good help, but where’s the decency? Long time resident, former mug club member and frequent diner, and executive who works in town. I don’t normally write reviews, however it was important to share with the public..

My husband and I visited while passing through Portsmouth in September of 2022 and had a fantastic experience. We were drawn in by the mosaic on the sidewalk out front and we stayed for the local brews and seafood. The clam chowder was awesome and the fish and chips tasted so fresh!! I loved that the bathroom door was huge and made of steel. I saw they've been closed for repairs after a water main break, so I hope they get back up on their feet again soon. We'd love to travel out here and visit again!!

I love the PB! I go every time I come to Portsmouth. My favorite was the flight of beers with a small sample of something tasty that would compliment each. Their food is delicious too!

We came here for a nightcap on a Friday evening and had a great time with conversation and drinks.
We were greeted by the manager who took us to an open table. All of our drinks were satisfying and we enjoyed our stay here.
Upon leaving, warm goodbyes by the managers once again and I look forward to returning!

We enjoyed the beers, which were a mix of interesting unique takes and a few classics. The food is very creative and delicious. Everyone was very friendly, and this is a very comfortable atmosphere to relax and eat and drink. We definitely recommend this for a simple drink, or a night out with friends, or even lunch with a beer like we did.

Vegetarian options: They have quite a variety of vegetarian options, and they are really well thought out. We ate vegetarian here, and we're not at all vegetarians.

Cute local brewery, perfect to watch the game or just a nightcap after dinner on the town, which is what we did. The homebrewed porter was QUITE good! Open later than most places in Portsmouth.

Pretzel was not very flavorful. Honey Mustard & cheese sauces were horrible to the taste. Chicken tenders were ok, but for $14 very very small serving & no fries or anything came with it. :(
