Got the 2 for 1 burger deal. $14 for both the hot mess and the foughettabout it! The hot mess was spicy but not too spicy and the foughettabout it was a great blend of American burger with Italian flavor! Took half of each back to the hotel for dinner. Service was a little slow but seemed like there was only one server taking orders but she was very nice and helpful when ordering!

Came here on a whim for Easter with the family. Great food, great drinks and great service. Highly recommend the fried pickles for an app. Fries were cooked to perfection and not over loaded with salt. Good size portions. Overall good vibes.

We visited Wednesday. I just want to say the wings were delish. However the onion soup was terrible. Very bland and who puts beef in onion soup? The Goat skins were bland and terrible. Our waitress was pleasant unfortunately we never got her name. At one point she was MIA maybe on break. No one else picked up for her.We were seated right at the door VERY UNCOMFORTABLE and freezing whenever the door opened; and it was often because The Goat is a busy bar restaurant.Would not recommend or visit again.

As a local I have to say that I used to really enjoy this bar but it has gone downhill significantly. The food is okay, no real complaints there other than it's overpriced for bar food (unless you want wings on Wednesdays). It's 2024, I can deal with food prices. What I can't deal with is inexcusably bad service. We get sat down, our drink order does not get taken for 10-15 minutes. We ordered beer and glass of wine, we didn't get our drinks for another 20 minutes (The beer was flat & the $16 dollar glass of wine was under poured). Now, 30-35 minutes after sitting, we finally get to order food but we don't actually get our food until 25 minutes later. The food came and we did not receive utensils, waters or napkins. I ask for water, napkins and utensils just to only received water and utensils (another 10 minutes after receiving our food). At this point I'm just annoyed and wanted my bill. This is unacceptable. It was a busy night, yes. But this has happened with the same waiter on multiple occasions. I don't want anyone to get in trouble, but this place genuinely needs better training and attentive management. I hope I can try again one day, but for the foreseeable future I do not see myself returning to the goat, even less considering there are better options all over Portsmouth.

So bad. For real. I don’t write reviews because I know they can be harsh, as someone in the industry, but this place does not do Portsmouth justice at all. As a local, I can tell u there are a million other good restaurants to eat at in Portsmouth. Service is so slow, which as a server I can understand on a busy night. But our server was genuinely rude and honestly didn’t seem to care or even pretend to. We stopped ordering cocktails there a while ago after everytime we went there, they were either super watered down or wayyyyy too strong. I have given the Goat Portsmouth many chances and every time I am genuinely disappointed. Waiting 25 minutes for a beer and wine was somewhat understandable, when it’s busy. But, the server didn’t even bother to look at us or speak to us at all. Zero words when even dropping a cashed out check?! Asked for multiple little necessities like utensils and napkins… which never came. I can understand service being slow on a busy night, but when you know you have made people wait a long time, to not even try to be decent or nice to make up for it? Crazy overpriced, other restaurants in Portsmouth are priced the same if not less and you will at least get decent service. Go on wing night Wednesdays for the 10 cent wings because they’re the most affordable thing the Goat will ever put out, but don’t expect literally anything else and expect to wait a long time for any drinks or food. I do not understand how this place has any customers at all. If you have heard from “a friend” that it’s a great stop, they are lying to you. The goat needs to fix their service, management, drinks and food if it wants to survive. Maybe go to another restaurant owned by the same guy. Fleury group we expect better….train your staff appropriately and have actual good servers provide the training.

I went to a concert at the Music Hall and hadn't eaten, so I was starving. The Goat was one of the few places open, so I went in and ordered soup and sandwich. The half sandwich was grilled cheese, which was all right, and the French onion soup? OMG, they must use a concentrate which they didn't bother diluting. It was so salty I could not eat more than a bite. I asked the waiter to make it to go -- he brought me a container and rushed off. The soup was so hot I could not grab the cup and pour it into the container. Tried flagging him down to no avail. Finally carried my "meal" to the back and asked them to pour it into the to go container.Server was not pleased. Neither was I. How hard is it to make French Onion soup from a concentrate? How hard is it for a waiter to do more than dump a take out container on my table? I couldn't even get a bill.

Great prices, busy but not crowded in a Friday nights. Not a huge country music fan but I'd come here again!

Place was packed but there were hardly any servers. That meant we had to wait ages before our drinks order was taken, and another age before the server took our food order. Another lengthy wait ensued before the food arrived. The young guy dumped everything off without even asking if we needed anything else. I then had another lengthy wait for a server to pass by to tell them my fork was dirty and that there was no butter for the pancakes or English muffin. Incidentally, when I ordered, the server asked if I wanted the muffin grilled or toasted. I asked for toasted, but it came out fresh from the packet. My other half had the chicken and waffle which was about the size of a small saucer. Overall, we left very unimpressed and decided that given the other options in Portsmouth, next time we are in town, we won’t be eating at the Goat.

REALLY disappointed by the food.It was very busy and way too loud to have a conversation at the table, but I realize that might be the atmosphere other customers like; for us, it was a mistake to meet another couple there "to catch up." Oh well, our mistake. However, the food was borderline terrible and THAT'S on the restaurant. We had the fried pickles (limp and meh) and the pork belly (really good) to start. We had heard that the burgers were top notch, so all four of us ordered burgers. Sigh. All four were soggy and unappetizing. So disappointing. None of us finished our burgers because none of us wanted to. Bummer. The biggest culinary sin, however, was the state of the tater tots. All of us got them but NONE of us ate more than a few. Way, way, WAY over fried. Inedible. I told our server who said, "Oh? I'll let the kitchen know." No replacement, no apologies, no charge reduction, no further communication. The restaurant was busy enough that I doubt they feel the need for improvement. With so many OTHER restaurants in Portsmouth, I really can't imagine that without change, it'll stay in business long-term, much less keep its "It Girl" status. My advice to prospective diners: avoid.

Great place for pub food and drinks. I had a specialty burger and tots, my wife had french onion soup and onion rings. We had the pork belly appetizer. The food was very tasty. They also had a nice drink menu.Friendly staff and lots of big screen TV's.
