We ate at the Wellington Room last night for Valentines's Day and were very disappointed. The room is really really tiny to the point of being somewhat uncomfortable and my husband and I are NOT big people. The whole dinner we were worried that someone would walk by and knock something off of our table. View is great, IF you're sitting at the window. Other than that all you see is the lights of the restaurant reflecting back. We were never told by the waitress that it was a price fixed menu and actually had to ask her when we realized there were NO prices anywhere on the menu. I was never told about this when I made the reservation either. She just seemed completely overwhelmed the entire night and I did feel bad for her. She didn't even tell us what the price was, and we had no clue until the bill arrived. It was $95 per person which included a very small but good salad. 2 very tiny pieces of stale bread. Beef Wellington which was the smallest cut filet I think I've every received in a restaurant but it was good, also a chocolate dessert. They charged $12 for a small glass of Prosecco and actually charged me extra for decaf coffee! The gratuity was NOT included so this meal was $240! Not worth it, Unfortunately we will not return.

We had high hopes but were sadly disappointed. We are frequent and seasoned diners in the Portsmouth NH dining scene. The Wellington Room has a history of being a fine dining establishment and their prices reflect it. The positive includes a cozy dining room overlooking the river. Their menu is somewhat limited and the night we went (a weekend night, first seating) they did not offer any specials. The menu offered 4 appetizers including 2 salads. I was not interested in a salad so ordered the mussels. When placing my order I was informed they were out of mussels so I chose the crab dip. The others in my party ordered the salads and were satisfied with their salads. We all agreed, however, that the crab dip tasted like it was made with onion soup mix and extremely salty. The wontons were good and crispy. Moving on to dinner, two in our party ordered the chicken risotto dish and the other two ordered the crab on haddock. General comments included pasty saltly risotto and extremely salty chicken. The haddock was unremarkable, very salty, the breadcrumbs tasted like they came from a box and neither party finished their entrée. We thought we could salvage the meal via dessert. When placing our order, we were told that they were out of 2 of the 4 listed desserts. We decided to cut our losses. Overall, we found the service brusque as though they wanted to turn our table. After the fact, I heard that ownership has recently changed at this restaurant. Portsmouth offers many better choices at this price point and location.

This place is amazing, plain and simple. One of the best meals I have ever had. PERIOD! We went here for our mutual birthdays a couple of years ago and we were blown away. The food was impeccable. So much so, we are going back in one week to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary. The menu changes based on the season and what is good and appropriate for the time of year. Last time, my husband had the fish and I had the filet. Both melted in our mouths and we couldn't have loved our meals more. This time, I look forward to the chicken or maybe even the eggplant. The beet salad was amazing!!! Drinks were awesome, and the staff bent over backwards when they learned it was our birthdays. Can't wait to go back!!!! The view was gorgeous. Restaurants don't get better than this. Take my advice.

This place is too adorable for words. Very intimate and cozy. The staff is so welcoming and personable. Unique food; the mussels were yummy. Great view of the harbor. Be sure to make a reservation.

Save your money for another place. If you can use a microwave you could do a better job on a platter of short rib, mashed potato and beans. I went here reading all the raving reviews only to find I was the only customer there and hardly any of the items pictured on yelp are available because the place has new owners. I wish them all the best but there's way too many good restaurants in Portsmouth and what you're doing or serving now just wont work. Two stars for decent service. But honestly good quality food is the make or break factor for me.

Looking to entertain out of town guests we looked around the various restaurants looking for a location that would be a bit different than norm. The "Wellington Room" proved to be that spot that we found most unique as well as delightful. Reservation with an early arrival are recommended as the restaurant has limited but comfortable seating. We found the limited menu most accommodating to the various taste / preferences to everything in our party. Service as well as food presentation and taste was very impressive. The Wellington Room will be certainly be added to our weekly "date night" out repeat list.

My wife and I had dinner here on our weekend in Portsmouth. It was fantastic. Every thing was extremely well prepared and super tasty. We will be back for sure!

The Wellington Room is tucked away and quiet, which is wonderful considering its location. The restaurant was a little dusty on the inside, not exactly spiffy, but I guess for some that's part of the appeal. Their charcuterie board is delicious. I wasn't a big fan of the gnocchi, but it was decent. This is a good place to dine, overall, although not up to par with some of Portsmouth's other restaurants.

Hate Writing Reviews Like This - But Buyer Beware!! Where's the Beef? Wow - not sure what's going on here as I see the other reviews but we just visited last Saturday and this place really needs some work. Went based on reviews as posted online and was expecting the menu that's posted online and on the front of the building. What a mistake....This was like entering the Twilight Zone. At first, we kept making sure we were in the right place. Then the menus came and we thought - The Place Ran Out Of Food! Bizzare - Four appetizers - two of which were crackers. No soups....Five entrees - one of which was spaghetti and meatballs? With a view overlooking the harbor, no seafood at all and only one beef dish... an attempt at Braciole (I'm Italian and this was not Braciole!). Special of the Night was Pepperoni Pizza? Wife and I just starred at each other and only reason didn't walk out was due to politeness. While staff tried really hard and place was a little quaint....heard from some locals that place has changed ownership. I hope they straighten this out as I would love to visit when the place is what is used to be with Beef Wellington, Lobster Bisque, steaks and seafood. In the meantime...enter at your own risk!

This is a must for anyone looking to have a distinct meal, in a beautifully intimate setting. The limited menu showcases the meticulous care the chef and staff took in order to provide a dining experience apart from the norm. Highly recommended!

Great small upstairs dining room with good views of the water. Excellent, albeit small menu, but the food is really good and the wine selection is great. Great for smaller groups and date nights. Make a reservation as there are only a handful of tables and a tiny bar.

A little late, but I ate here in December while visiting family. The service was very professional.. The food was very memorable. Best lobster bisque I have ever had. I eat out a lot, and that was the best meal I had had in a long time. There was passion put into making that food. If I remember correctly, we had the beet salad, lobster bisque, cod (or haddock, can't remember) and lamb shank. The attention to detail made it a very memorable night, which was pleasing because we were there for a special occasion.

Having heard from our friends that this was the new "place to go" in Portsmouth for a nice dinner, we made reservations here a little over a week in advance to make sure we could get a table. It's a very small space and probably seats 20 people max. This was well worth the wait though, we had a 2 person table with a beautiful view of the harbor. Their custom cocktails are all made with liquor infused in-house, and the owner made excellent recommendations based on our orders. We ordered the Caesar salad, the fish cakes, the chicken risotto, and the pork shoulder. All of which were outstanding and perfectly flavored. My one regret was not ordering the beef Wellington (which must be ordered a week in advance to allow for preparation and is not on the menu). This is an excellent venue for a romantic night out, or a special occasion with close friends and family.

The food was amazing, the location and service were incredible! I made reservations and PRE-ordered the Beef Wellington and was thoroughly thrilled with the choice!! The dining room is cozy and intimate, overlooking the water. The atmosphere was sophisticated and the perfect place for a romantic dinner... Reservations would be more than highly recommended, as there are only about 12 tables in the whole dining room. If you want the Beef Wellington, you need to pre-order by Wednesday for Friday night only, but wow, it was worth the effort!!
