This place suffers from overselling itself. We booked a family room with queen bed as a family of three. It was described on Expedia as good for family's and slept three. We expected that the free, as described on Expedia, rollabed would be set up good to go since there was the three of us, but no. The room was also directly opposite the doors to the restrooms for the restaurant on site. This is a big no no for a lot of guests and I would have liked to have been made aware of it when booking. We decided to change our room, the inn keeper did allow it for the difference in booking fee totally acceptable. There was a gas fire in the new room however no carbon monoxide alarm that I could see and this caused concern as you just never know with gas.We only text and spoke to the inn keeper on the phone until checkout, even though she stayed on site. there was no personal experience. When it came to breakfast it left a lot to be desired, we basically had to look around the kitchenette for the food offerings of cheese bagels oatmeal yoghurts and fruit. We then had to eat in the bedroom as we were unsure if we were allowed in the dining area of the restaraunt downstairs. It felt more like a self catering room than a bed and breakfast. The microwave had not been cleaned and there was chicken in the freezer from August last year. we didn't know if we should do the dishes or if the inn keeper would for H&S reasons. We had hoped to have seen the innkeeper walking around as she knew she had guests but no. I get she was probably busy but personal hospitality at some point of the 24hrs would be nice. We finally seen our inn keeper at check out to pay the difference in room cost and she seemed friendly enough. The rooms are clean apart from the previous tenants ice cream in the freezer and the garden is nice but it's not the bed and breakfast experience I am used to. A more appropriate description on expedia and A bit more of a push in the service part, this could be a very nice experience however just now it is not there.

Great food, great drinks and great atmosphere! The cauliflower was definitely a good add to the menu!

Food & drinks: If you're there while the bar and restaurant are open, Do Go! The food is phenomenal along with the chefs. The bar is savvy with a healthy selection of beers on tap, mixed drinks, and even a nice selection of wines to choose from.Noteworthy details: This petite bar/restaurant and hotel is a niche business. The B&B type, locally owned and operated with comfy rooms in the 1800's Colonial style house is a taste of yesterday with enough modern updates to make it fun and memorable. I love the staff and have enjoyed meeting friends for dinner and drinks here many times. Great spot for a birthday, get together, or other small celebrations. They even have craft faire sometimes. Reminds me of the early years of United States Freedom, baby!

We enjoyed our room #4 in this quaint old home! It was better than their presidential suite room #5! The king sized bed was clean and comfortable. The propane fireplace kept us warm and cozy! We loved the idea of a small kitchenette right across the hall with snacks, although the bananas were a bit too ripe for our taste. We wish bottled water had been supplied. We didn’t see any employees, therefore we could not attest to service, but self service check in was a good set up.

Part of Independence Inn. New owners and chefs. Incredible meal and atmosphere near Bow Lake. Superb attentive service and staff. So cozy with fireplace and gathering spaces along with bar and tables. Each item was delectable.

We had a very enjoyable evening at the Heartwood - good food, a warm and relaxing atmosphere, and very friendly owners and staff. Prices are very reasonable also. We will definitely be going back.

While my husband and I have never stayed here, we come to eat at the Independence Inn's restaurant - Heartwood - very frequently, at least once every two weeks! Every dish we've had has been made to order and delicious! The chefs regularly seek suggestions for their dishes and genuinely take those suggestions into consideration! Every person you run into at the Independence Inn is kind and eager to please! The ambiance is very cozy and quaint! Both my husband and I highly suggest to anyone wondering about eating here, to go for it! You won't be disappointed!

We loved our stay at the Independence Inn! It was just what we were looking for during our autumn trip to New England. The character of the old Inn was warm, quaint, and inviting. We stayed in room 2 and found the king bed very comfortable and loved the fireplace. We wish our stay could have been longer. This is a great place to stay if you want to feel like you had a small town, old-timey New England experience on your travels. And the price was right and the food at Heartwood was delicious. We would definitely come back here!

Tucked away in a rural area back in the woods. Very quiet surroundings. This is a very rustic but very cute. I didn't get to do any activities they offer or eat at the restaurant. I stayed "one night", checked in around 2 AM & checked out around 8 AM. I HIGHLY recommend trying this place. If you're not looking for a hot breakfast, pool, fitness center etc... or the high cost of a hotel with all the amenities you probably won't use.Rooms: Bathroom is very small. Shower is tiny but adequate.

Quiet location right off the main road. Easy check in and out. We got in super late and the keys were waiting for us in the lobby. Close to nature trails and scenic drives!

Don't be fooled by its location or farmhouse look from the outside, its so cozy inside and has an excellent vibe. My brother and I ordered some appetizere and a couple of october ales. They did an amazing job with food and drinks, they go above and beyond to give you extras that normal places dont offer. Food was fresh and hot, prepared with lots of love. Will go again, great for the local residents that want nice food without going all the way to Portsmouth.

Room #5: You get what you pay for. Not a bad place to stay but we will not be back. It is old, which adds to its charm. However, no TV is a little bit of a drawback, though the wifi was good enough to stream on our phones. The shower was dirty with hair stuck to the wall (not ours), didn't get much water out of it, no soap on the sink to wash your hands after going to the bathroom, and the toilet (not sure if the water quality was responsible) was stained. No staff to talk about. The front lights BLASTED through the curtains, so the room was illuminated all night. The bed was comfortable. There are only 1/2 drapes, no shades or blinds, even in the bathroom, where men can look straight out the window while doing their business and watch cars go by.
