Fred and Ethel's Lantern Light Restaurant and Tavern

I was really disappointed with our experience. My husband ordered the French onion soup, but it had an odd sweetness that didn’t taste right. We also got mild wings, but they tasted more tangy than mild. My burger was dry and lacked flavor. The only things we enjoyed were the fries and our sodas. The restaurant was uncomfortably hot, which made dining unpleasant. Our server was kind, but the host seemed unhappy and unwelcoming.

Great place for lunch while at Smithville shopping. Food and service was excellent. Reasonably priced.

I really wanted to love this place. It was absolutely appalling. For the prices of all the foods, I expected quality food and decent portions. The adult fish and chips was the size of a children’s meal. Two tiny pieces of fish, very thin and overly dry and also burnt. disgusting! the fries were burnt and dry. It seemed as if they attempted to cook food that was not frozen properly. I assume the fish came from some cheap company. The food was cooked being freezer burnt. I hold a serve safe manager certificate, so I know these things. My child’s chicken nuggets were freezer burnt too. They definitely got these in bulk cheap. Last, the crab cake sandwich was ridiculously dry also and tasted funky. The waitress was nice and accommodating. I would steer away from here if you do not want to waste a large amount of money though. How can they plate food with poor quality and extremely low portions?

First time eating at Fred and Ethel’s at smithville , had the onion soup it was very good , but our waiter Andrew was the reason for the great review, he was very friendly and really seemed to love his job … he is an asset !👏

I came here to eat the other day with my family. The food was all around ok. It came out a bit cold, not very seasoned and my drink tasted watered down. However the atmosphere, and the waiters were nice.

Stopped for lunch today. Seated right away. The golden potato vegetable soup was very good-- lots of veggies. I ordered the Mahi Tacos. The fish was overcooked and cold, tons of shredded lettuce and corn relish- which was soggy-- and the flour tortillas weren't warm. The waitress was just ok. The bar and hostess area smelled like it hadn't been properly cleaned in a while.

Went in with 2 friends and sat down at the bar my friend ordered a beer. I asked for the same thing as my friend to make it simple and the bartender gave me a weird look and then just would not serve me anything. I sat around waiting and never got a drink so I walked out. Served my friend but did not want to serve me

We attended a small 50th Birthday party at Fred and Ethels with 12 in our party. We were told there was a 45 min wait. We were seated in about 20 min. The server was excellent. The food, especially the Bang Shrimp Tacos were Banging! It's a little far from me but I'd go there every week if I could. Can't wait for my next meal there. I'd definitely recommend Fred and Ethels. Parking can be found even on the weekends.

Had a family dinner (7) and the food was great, waiter (Joe) was just as good and the whole experience was really nice! We'll defintely be back.

Staples are available outside for sitting on nice days. The inside offers a charming atmosphere.

Got a sandwich, it would've been so much better had the bun been toasted, and the lettuce and tomato cut to order. In the past I've had the same thing, and was happy, I guess this was an off day. The papertowel and toilet paper dispensers were broken, needs a little attention.
