Food hasn't been as good as usual however the swordfish was perfectly cooked last night but served with old/ dried out polenta. Apps were outstanding but our dinners were were disappointing ... our guests came for their favorite pork chop which was a tiny portion and sauce tasted like ketchup. We were disappointed. Service was excellent tho and the spicy margaritas were amazing!

Great service, welcoming hostess. Bar area is lively and bartenders were amazing. Our server was great, handling group of 12 can be challenging and he nailed it! Considering this restaurant to be seafood place, it was a bit disappointing, some fish dishes like mahi mani and halibut they were dry and some dishes were cold. Some dishes were lacking seasoning, overall was good experience. Very beautiful interior.

The Iron Whale has a beautiful atmosphere and the food is excellent. Our server was wonderful and attentive. She suggested specials and options for us. It was a large party for a birthday celebration, which she brought out a dessert with a candle. The majority of our party loved their entrees. However, my husband ordered the steak special and found it to be very tasty but fatty, and a friend ordered the black bean burger and said the beans were not well bound or blended with anything. It was quite pricy, but we knew that going into the restaurant. Overall it was a relaxed, lovely dinner.

Everything was good, the only negative is that we requested (in advance) to be seated by the window with the ocean view since it was a special occasion, our 14 year wedding anniversary but unfortunately they did not honor that or accommodate us when we expressed it during seating. We were told our seats were the best they could do but we saw open seats next to the windows. We booked and special requested this seating in advance. I don't think they really read the reservation notes. Otherwise everything else was good.
We got the calamari, chicken fingers and fries for the kids, the black bean burger, and the crabcakes. The calamari was only okay. The fries were seasoned too much for kids (if your kids are picky like ours). My wife said the black bean burger was bad. The crabcakes were also only okay - nothing mind-blowing. A little too seared on the bottom. The service and ambience were both great, but the meal itself is something that speaks volumes about the Iron Whale and McLoone restaurants overall: mediocrity. Drinks are probably the only thing I'd recommend getting at this spot and any McLoone spot if you have to go to one.

It was a beautiful day on the Asbury Park boardwalk and we made early reservations to the iron whale. We got there and were unsure if we wanted to dine inside or outside but we chose to dine outside because of the beautiful weather. Our server was very attentive and we order the angry octopus and Two orders of tacos and the star of the show was definitely the octopus and their housemaid bread! Next time I'm in the area I will be returning!

Katie was an amazing waitress! Iron Whale is one of my dad and I's favorite spots! We love the cowboy steak special and tried the crab cake for the first time and it was amazing! Will definitely be back :)

Been there before this time very busy and service wasn't as good last time. Server must had too many tables. Drink was nerve filled to the top of the glass and had to wait. The one silverware setting was missing a fork. Wasn't the same as I remembered last time. I also sat in main dining area. This time right in front of the hostess station. I made this reservations 5 days in advance and would have thought of getting a table instead of a hot top.
