Old school classic Italian deli. I’ve been seeing Charlie for years and always a great experience and ambiance.

Wonderful neighborhood shop, served freshly sliced meats on their Italian subs, was exactly what you want an Italian sub to taste like. We sat at their table outside and they even brought our dog a couple of slices of roast beef, so nice!

I had to sit and think hard. 5 to 10 issues out of the thousand I could’ve picked for this review. Let’s start with the obvious:
No prices on anything. One day the sandwich is $12, the next it’s $20. Nothing’s labeled, nothing’s consistent. Great.
Then there are the free meals for the local heroes (firefighters, etc.—good for them), but guess what? I’m always next in line. And I know Charlie’s gonna make up the cost by charging me $55 for a sandwich. It’s like a game of roulette with whos going to pay.
The place is decorated like Christmas 365 days a year. Just swap in mouse traps for mistletoe. They’re everywhere shelves, corners, under the drink fridge. All part of the “ambiance,” I guess.
Let’s talk staff. Junior, the short dude with the smirk, spends half the time walking in circles or getting yelled at. No gloves. Fine, not a deal-breaker. But the nails? Looks like he’s been growing them since birth. Honestly, it’s disgusting.
And the sandwich? The infamous 18-incher that costs as much as a tank of gas. $55, or $60 if you dare grab a bottle of water. And for what? A thin, sad excuse for a sandwich with a skimpy layer of mozzarella.
Final thoughts? If you're into overpriced mystery-meat sandwiches, year-round holiday clutter, and paying for someone else’s free lunch, you’re gonna love it here.

Save your money and go elsewhere! I paid $20 for a 6 inch turkey, mozzarella, roasted pepper sandwich. They don't even charge that in Hoboken or NY and those are over priced cities.I believe this store is just a front for what really goes on there. They also only take cash too..so you tell me! Let me start off by saying the bread shouldn't be out in the open for everyone to touch with their hands. Secondly, he doesn't use any gloves when making your sandwich, and threw my bread on the counter when i handed it to him. This is unsanitary! Also, who slices fresh mozzarella on a machine. If thats what i wanted i could've gotten package cheese. When I asked the price and he said $20 I thought he was joking. They always charge a different price everytime. I could've went to Giovanni's in town. They charge about $12-13 for a 6 inch and around $20 for a foot.

Take in a Blast from the Past at this New Jersey staple and the 1% sub club. You just cant beat Charlie and Co. Friendly, accommodating, experienced, just puts the expectation & old school together with the best quality meats, bread all with a touch of class to share with the rest of us. Don't miss this place, ever!

What a WONDERFUL place! Recommended by my grandma (a Bayonne native), we now go every time we visit New Jersey! You cannot beat the quality of their meats and cheeses, along with personable service, and cost for a FANTASTIC, must-have Italian sub. (:
