Favorite spot in the neighborhood this come-as-you-are dive is a welcomingand delicious place to relax for a while. Their food runs a bit on the salty side for me, but I still love it. We had potato leek soup, chicken vegetable soup, carnitas quesadillas, and a cocktail. Delicious!!

In the bustling center of Bloomfield, Obal’s Inn stands out as a dive bar that exudes familiarity and charm. With its relaxed atmosphere and retro decor, it’s a gathering spot where sports fans come together to cheer for their teams on multiple screens. The main event of the week? Their Thursday night barbecue, where ribs vanish faster than you can say “grill master.”

On a recent visit, I dined in with a dear friend who doubles as a bird and wildlife photographer. It’s hard to believe I’ve only been frequenting this establishment for a few years, thanks to her enthusiastic introduction. We usually gravitate toward their dinner specials, but this time, we decided to indulge in some classic bar fare.

We kicked things off with the Gourmet Breaded Onion Ring Tower ($10), a towering sight that could make even the most dedicated dieter momentarily reconsider their life choices. Next up were 8 Cajun-Rubbed Chicken Wings ($16) that packed a flavorful punch and left us reaching for napkins as we tried to maintain some semblance of dignity.

No visit to Obal’s is complete without sampling their signature burger, the Obal’s Classic ($16). Topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and red onion, it’s served with hand-cut fries and house-made slaw that would make any foodie swoon.

As for drinks, their menu offers a delightful variety. I started the night with a refreshing Malibu Bay Breeze, a tropical escape in a glass, before switching to a classic Diet Cherry Coke to accompany my bar grub.

Obal’s Inn remains a beloved haunt for good reason. With its blend of comfort food, strong drinks, and a diverse crowd, it’s the perfect spot for a laid-back evening with friends. If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by—it might just become your new favorite local hangout.

First time here - Sat in the bar booths and had the eggs benedict for Sunday brunch. Was wonderful! Service from the bar was great as well! Would definitely come back when I'm in town again.

Best bar in Bloomfield. Good food and good service, with a decent variety of drafts from clean taps. I do miss the pool table but still a great place.

honestly great food and not a bad atmosphere. My issues the bartender (the one in the picture), he’s just a pompous little guy i guess. Don’t know why he treated me and my dad like less of people compared to the group of people next to us. Not to mention at the end when there was less ppl because trivia ended, he was talking about politics, probably was making a joke but started making references to anarchy… My dad was not impressed and I felt a little second hand embarrassed knowing that this in my generation at work.

I've gone to obals for about a decade with friends and family.

It was a diverse neighborhood bar where all were once welcome. Sadly the ownership change a few years back led to an environment that when the owners enter the bar many people start booking their Ubers. The post Covid era with new owners has many selecting new places to frequent. Most bar owners are welcoming, get to know their clientele, and appreciate those that frequent their business. Unfortunately these owners find a reason to dislike and be rude to almost anyone that doesn't look like them or is under the age of 45, thankfully for me I am in this category (sarcasm). A few weeks back I sat in a booth where I heard the owners wife speak with immense judgement and disgustingly about true supporters of their business and long time regulars. It was downright hateful. I personally decided I could not return after hearing this.

Perhaps the owners should consider selling if they hate 90% of the people that walk through their doors. Or of not maybe smile once in a while and actually greet customers.

Cheers for the great meals, good music and great times I had there. Sad it's the end of an era on broad street in Bloomfield. I walked in to OCl the next weekend and happened upon many familiar faces just down the street who felt just like I do.L
