Lovely atmosphere outside overlooking the docks, but try to be seated further back, away from the heavy traffic noises from this busy road. French toast was cooked perfectly. Next time I'd love to try the bananas foster french toast. Friendly wait staff makes you feel right at home. Will definitely be back!
Servers were all college girls and boys. Hostess was very friendly and chatty. Accommodated my walker with no problem and no fuss. Service was excellent. Home fries with onion were tasty, scrambled eggs done right, toast not burned or underdone. Ate there twice to avoid the over-priced Sea Salt Restaurant at the hotel we stayed at. A simple two egg breakfast at the hotel restaurant was $32 for crying out loud and was for same thing. For ONE person! This Saltwater Cafe was half price and just as good with locals as servers instead of Russians like so many in shore towns now.
This place is over rated. Don’t believe the ratings this restaurant has gotten. Other than the views outside the breakfast is nothing special. If you sit outdoors you will be welcomed with the stickiest and dirtiest tables I’ve ever seen at a restaurant. Do yourself a favor and find another place worthy of your money.
So 1st let me say we heard wonderful things about the restaurant. So are expectations were high. Very cute staff very nice. Then came to the food. Came out very quickly. But here is the problem. My husband got an omelette that came with home fries. The home fries were dry. But the worst part there was material left on the fries. I guess it was left over from when someone cleaned the grill. See photo. They charged us 3.5 for toast. Toast. It’s bread. I mean I know inflation. But come on. We tried to show the waiter what was wrong and he was “so u are ok all good”. We never complain. Just felt a little cheated. The view was nice though. Maybe if I order other things they are better. No discouragement from going there just an honest review.
Bananas Foster French toast was outstanding! Short wait and very quick service by friendly staff. Will eat there again!

Pretty standard diner food, but done well. Nice outside seating right by the dock with pretty plants and flowers.
Perfectly adequate lunch fair (salads, club sandwiches, etc.), or you can order all the standard breakfast stuff if you prefer. Prompt, courteous service. Open only for breakfast and lunch.
I am a cape may county local. Visited 31 july 2022 with my family. Staff nice and had a really nice spot outside by the water, but that is where the positives end. The food was epically bad, literally had the worst breakfast of my entire life. I should have known when I asked the waitress what was good she told me what LOOKED good. I then asked what she liked and she told me they aren’t allowed to eat there. Hmmm mentioned to my husband that was a bit of a red flag…. We had chocolate chip pancakes, crab Benedict with extra home fries, and crap cake sandwich. The chocolate chip pancakes were the best thing and only ok. They were tough and over mixed, but reasonably edible. Luckily I asked for the bourbon butter and that was sublime. Dennys pancakes are 1000 times better. The crab Benedict was cold, eggs over cooked, ham like rubber, and husband asked for toasted English muffins on side which were soggy. The home fries were cold, hard and tasted like they had been under a heat lamp all day. We sent the extra back so as not to have to pay. The crabcake sandwich was ordered by my 13 year old son who will eat anything. Spoiler alert he didn’t eat this. It was cold and just tasted weird according to him. Fries cold and greasy. We honestly thought about leaving after 1 bite of everything but didn’t want to deal with any sort of confrontation with anyone and also just wanted to get to the beach so we did eat the meal for the most part. This was a splurge meal for our anniversary weekend and very disappointing.
Salt Water Cafe prices were extremely high for a breakfast that wasn’t very good & small portions. I’m ok with paying for quality but nothing we had was worth the price. “The All American” which was 2 eggs, bacon, toast and home fries was $14 then an up charge of $5.50 for multigrain toast. $19.50 for a simple, nothing special breakfast that wasn’t very good. I was so disappointed with everything my family had for breakfast. Two of the orders had to be sent back due to eggs not cooked properly. The lemon pancakes were rubbery and the berry topping was a small ramekin on the side, the home fries were cubed potatoes that were undercooked and hard. The açaí bowl was a small portion and the put a huge thing of whipped cream on it which wasn’t in the description on the menu and not what we wanted.I used to eat at Salt Water Cafe several years back & it changed hands and things weren’t great. I decided to give it another try but the prices increased tremendously and the food quality is worse then ever. Nothing about the visit was good. It actually was sad to end my vacation with such a lousy experience.
Extremely expensive for mediocre breakfast fare. I've had way better breakfast for half of what I paid at this restaurant. Nearly $50 for skimpy portions. The home fries were the previously frozen, diced potato kind and super small amount at that. I ordered an omelet and had to pay over $3 extra for two pieces of toast... If you don't mind wasting your money on sub-par breakfast then Saltwater Cafe in Cape May, NJ is the place for you... I started to walk out before ordering once I saw the prices. I wish I had followed my intuition. -1star

Food was good. Had to get up and ask for a second cup of coffee. Young waitress was sitting in a booth on her phone. She took our order, someone else brought the food. The only time we saw the waitress again was when she brought the check.
Entrance is through a beach gift shop which is a bit weird but overall this place is pretty good. Friendly if slightly amateurish service. The menu is a little ambitious for the kitchen, kinda like a hotel or casino restaurant. Not bad by any means, it's just gussied up diner food. The coffee is also diner grade or below.
Terrible overpriced food! Probably the worst french toast I've ever had. The $21 Crab benedict had just a few tiny pieces of crab meat sprinkled on top. Even coffee was disguising. The server brought us a check when we were still eating. Needless to say, we are never coming back to this place.
Fabulous place for breakfast in Cape May! Polite staff, awesome food (especially lonely fish on everything bagel) and adequate prices
I was looking forward to having breakfast here, but was slightly disappointed. First, they didn’t open until 8am, and we are early risers so would have loved to go earlier. Second, our breakfast was way overpriced. The portions were really small, and the food was just average. We both ordered omelets, which only came with home fries but no toast. The omelets were so small, and had barely any filling. I had the crab/asparagus/Boursin cheese omelet ($18), but there was barely any crab, and a few pieces of asparagus. Wish I had saved my money.I give 3 stars because the service was good and the location was really nice. We sat outside on the patio.
