Just landed in Cape May looking for a place to grab a quick bite we stopped at the ugly mug in Cape May. The service was excellent. The crabcakes had so much crab in them that I could not finish them. Their coleslaw is excellent out of a 10 I would give this old-time Kate Bay Restaurant 10 out of 10.
We go to the ugly mug every year & I look forward to it. But the meals were very off this time. I got the chicken nachos for dinner, it was awful. The chicken was dry, it was like it was microwaved from the night before. It had like a weird crisp texture. And it was grilled. It was literally just cheese and tortillas. But I thought beans came on it. Anyway, I told the server but nothing happened. Might have to find a new spot. 😩
Oysters on my sandwich didn’t even cover the ballpark burger bun - could barely taste them. Second star is for the crab and lobster bisque - that and the lobster roll were small, but great! Good tender lobster.
Pretty decent meal. Tourist town prices. Staff is nice
Very popular place to eat when going to Washington Street Mall in Cape May.
It was getting a bit muggy no pun intended so we ate inside. They have specials menu and regular menu. We started out with wings and they were a good amount, good size and tasted very good. For my entree I went with the beer battered shrimp and my husband chose the special cheesesteak egg rolls.
The shrimp were a good size I was impressed . The cheesesteak eggrolls were so good, and the dipping cheese sauce was good too! Our waitress was very attentive and the other staff was nice too.
Definitely I recommend this place if you like pub like scenery and if you go in September they have a beer foam blowing contest.
Enjoy !

We ordered the Lobster Roll with French Fries & Coleslaw. Although I didn’t care for the coleslaw (tasted greasy), I loved the Lobster Roll! It was delicious, fresh and the portion was generous. In addition, we got the Big Garden Salad with Crab Meat. This was also a generous portion with fresh lumps of crab Meat. Ask for Tristan when you come, he’s a great server.
The food was good but the table and chairs could of been better and the waiter was switched in the middle of the service
I went here expecting a pub/ hole in the wall and it was a typical place. One thing I will say and suggest is to ask for the prices of the drinks before you order, they are not listed for certain drinks. I guarantee you will not order !!

I feel like the atmosphere is the only saving grace of this place. I paid $76 - not including tip - for 2 appetizers, 1 kids meal, 1 Surfside and 2 beers. The appetizers were basic frozen/fried options, the Surfside costed $9 and a glass of beer costed $10 each! That's INSANE! I understand times are tough but that's highway robbery for some tap beer and frozen finger foods. Will not ever go back.

Two of our party ordered Captain and Coke... They were both flat and it caused quite the cluster when trying to explain this. One person ended up with a ridiculously sweet drink and the other person was left to drink her flat Captain and Coke. We ended up paying for these crappy drinks. We won't be back.

We've been coming here for over 30 years. It's our vacation home base. Go multiple times, but the prices on beer are crazy we only visited once. $9 for a Guinness....that's totally bananas. I know you want to make money, but come on.
Service was quick, sat inside, but very loud due to baseball game going on. Unfortunately the sat us in bar near bathroom, so people constantly walked by and stared at our food. Very expensive for what we had.
