Wasai Bistro is one of my go-to spots in Cranford. The sushi is always fresh and you can actually taste the quality, nothing weird or fishy. I’ve tried a few specialty rolls and they never disappoint.

Food comes out quick, everything is always right and your taken care of without having to ask twice. They also have some really unique dishes you dont see everywhere which makes it fun to switch it up. Prices are fair and portions are solid. Definitely worth going, I’ve never left dissapointed.

Wonderful Atmosphere. Great Food. Great Everything!

Edit: I have been back many times since, and they continue to impress me. Everything we had was immaculate

We had takeout sushi tonight and it was very disappointing. I almost spit it out, I think a piece of tuna they served me was bad. We won’t be back.

We have eaten at Wasai before and have ordered take out as well and it’s very good food no doubt. Today we stopped in for lunch -it’s a Tuesday at 1pm. We brought our baby in a stroller. We were not greeted, just asked if our stroller can be folded and put away. To which we said yes. After being seated for 10 minutes with no menu or greeting we started to feel very unwelcome. We packed up our things and left. The same older Asian woman did not ask us why we were leaving or if everything was okay. She was probably pleased to have us leave. To summarize I do not expect special treatment bc we have a baby but it would’ve been nice to be treated with some kindness. Would not recommend for babies.

This was one of the best sushi restaurants I’ve ever been in NJ.
I walked in on a Saturday night and luckily I got a table. The server helped me ordering the best things on the menu. Well, everything on the menu is unique and delicious!!!
Chef Nelson came by to say hello and he was super friendly as everyone else from the staff.
This is a perfect spot for a date night and when you want to treat yourself to a unique sushi experience.

The food was great. They were as accommodating as they could be as I’m gluten free but I would def come back here. Nate was incredible and made me and my gf’s experience here so amazing.

One of the best sushi experiences in NJ! Chef Nelson is an artist in presentation and a master at combining flavors to highlight phenomenal fish and other ingredients. We had the best birthday celebration here and cannot recommend it enough. Service was spectacular, always attentive but never intrusive. Really one of my favorite restaurants! The seafood is so fresh and the Wagyu is buttery. Thank you, Chef and the entire Wasai team for a wonderful meal!

Truly a hidden gem. Food quality is very high and brought me back to some of the best I’ve had in Japan & France. Portion sizes are just right, flavors are flavoring!! You can taste how fresh the meat is and the quality of the food. Certain options are pricey but worth it imo. Highly recc making a reservation (esp Thurs-Sat), although they do take walk-in.

My only critique is the wait time, it does take a while for food to come out esp on their busier nights like Thurs-Sat - but again we did not mind and felt the food is well worth the wait! (For reference, we got a last minute reservation for Friday 6:30-8pm and waited 45 mins to get our food).

Food is outstanding. Sushi is by far the best in the area, and it’s not close. Our favorites are salmon carpaccio, madai sushi, torched salmon belly sushi, red dragon roll, red heart roll, chicken fried rice, and flourless chocolate cake. Service is terrific and consistent. If you have not been, you need to.

Moved to the area from NYC a few months ago, had been looking for a proper go to sushi place and I found it at wasai. Great food, service us good. It is cozy, so be sure to reserve a seat days in advanced. I would say that's my only con, hard to get a seat if you don't know sushi is on the itinerary for the weekend. That being said I would compare thier food to places like Nobu in NYC.

Wasai Bistro is the textbook definition of hidden gem. The wife and I were passing through the area when we decided to have some sushi. Luckily, we picked the best spot in town. The sushi was absolutely delicious and fresh. Comparable and perhaps better than any sushi we've had anywhere. However the reason why we won't ever forget Wasai is due to it's duck & mushroom risotto. It was, hands down, the best risotto we've had. It was so good we ordered one to take back home to Pennsylvania. This lovely spot is a must visit if you're passing through; actually, it's a must if you're within reasonable driving distance. We're looking forward to our next drive through *checks notes* Cranford, NJ.

This is our #1 to go restaurant if we want to eat sushi other than the usual one like Salmon Tuna Ebi etc… that we can eat at any Japanese restaurant. We love that they have more varieties of sushi and it is great quality. Their service is excellent. There’s one young male server always in positive vibe and will always pay attention to your every little movement to meet your needs. One thing that I also like is this restaurant still recommends 15% gratitude comparing with other restaurants usually put 18% the lowest!

Great place for a sushi date. Some items are on the pricier side but the quality of the ingredients make up for it. They only have two seating times and you most likely need a reservation. Tables are very close together.
