This place is fantastic.

I hate to compare, but we were loyal customers of Diamatsu (Mountainside, NJ) for 20+ years. When it closed, we started our search for “the next best sushi.”

We had already tried sushi bars in Westfield (and we weren’t happy with them), so we ventured into Summit, Millburn, Fanwood and other places. Good, but not great. Then we found Wasai.

Wasai is the best sushi. The quality of the fish is at its highest. The presentation is perfect. The menu and specials are broad and creative. The service could be a little slow, but it’s polite, friendly and professional. The waitstaff knows their product well.

And, being a BYOB restaurant is always a plus.

So, we love it.

But, the final challenge was taking our younger son (a sushi aficionado) to Wasai last night. He loved it, our older son loved it, we all loved it.

And, so, Wasai is our new sushi home.

Spectacular place. Enjoy.

Love this place! The fish is always fresh and tasty, great variety as well. Their entrees are also delicious. Probably the best sushi place around! Most definitely recommend!

Phenomenal food. We had the kampachi yuzu, escargot with mushroom sauce, sashimi lunch special and seafood pasta with umi sauce. All of it was so good. Just as good if not better than pasta ramen in Montclair. Wasai Bistro is so much cleaner and more relaxing. Not rushed at all. Highly highly recommend this place.

My son and his fiancé recommended Wasai!
My daughter made the reservation for party of 8.
Told we have the reservation/ table from 6p -8p.
Worked out well it was Friday, with traffic we kind of arrived at different times but we had a table and were seated!
It's bring your alcohol.
Have limited number of actual menus
Had menu scan
Appetizers, entrees and desserts- wide variety and with daily specials
Strange thing happened with the entrees-Server came back stated my son and fiancé were served the wrong sushi platters and the 2 platters were taken.
My son said he had already eaten at least 7 pieces.
But the platters were taken.
If you served the wrong platters either don't say anything because we didn't notice or tell us but we should have kept the platters that were served
Right ???

My son and his fiancé got their ordered platters.
My daughter's boyfriend even asked what are you going to do with those platters.
Server didn't reply.
Their signature dessert was the cheesecake!
It was awesome!
The strawberry mouse was yummy too!!
Bread pudding was a bit dry.
Enjoyed being with my family.
Service was good.
Food was tasty.
Just didn't think they handled the wrong platter situation well.

Fresh sushi but make sure you are asking about rolls as they may not be the same layout. Our regular sushi spot closed down and we googled this place and would definitely return. Waiter was a little snappy when I asked why the spicy salmon and salmon rolls did not look the same as one didn’t have the rice around like the other but were listed in the same column. My daughter is very picky and enjoyed the dumplings and sushi. I’m glad we found another sushi spot! You’re able to byob as well. We didn’t have time to get desserts but they looked tasty

This is the best sushi I've ever had, EVER. And yes, I've been to Nobu and Blue Ribbon and all that. The fish is consistently fresh and the dishes are always changing and unique. I'm also a huge fan of the cook your own steak on the hot rock - it's so much fun and beyond delicious. I love that it's BYOB and the 2 main chefs, Nelson and Ming, are just awesome and hilarious guys. Tip: get the peanut butter dumplings and the chocolate cake!!!
