always tasty and a good size for the price! I’ve tried spam, salmon, pickled, shirasu, all solid choices and delicious ?

It’s like 95% rice and 5% actual ingredients, I’d be willing to pay more if they put more - would not recommend spicy chicken since it was less than a small dot of chicken inside

Omusubi Gonbei is a small quick service shop specializing in Omusubi Rice Balls.

They typically are open around the same time Mitsuwa opens up, and the lines do get quite long.

Omusubi prices are pretty good for the portion size, and the options do have some vegetarian options as well. The service is quite quick as they typically have Omusubi ready to go, and they're kept warm enough inside the storage that they are warm and feel fresh when receiving it.

I've tried multiple throughout the many years I've been coming to this spot. My highlights are the Spicy Bomb, Bomb, Karaage, and Eel. The Eel and Karaage are within the name, with a Karaage fried chicken inside the rice ball and the eel being a regular eel inside the rice ball. The Spicy Bomb is the highlight of the location, and also one of the more expensive options.

The salmon onigiri was great. I hate to take away a star because of their menu offering but they don’t have regular mayo tuna and only have spicy tuna! That’s my kids favorite!

I was paying with cash and total came out to $7.46. Shorter (there are tall and shorter women) Hispanic woman gave me back only $0.50 back so I asked her she needs to give me more. She ended up giving me just 3cents back which I think is ridiculous. You lose credibility by small things like this.

- huge massive rice ball- small shrimp inside and the majority is rice- you feel like you’re eating a massive rice ball- rice isn’t seasoned, so it can get bland- tons of selection on flavorsOverall, I felt like I was eating a ball of rice. The ratio to actual meat is terrible. 2 will fill you up, but on rice.

Commuting to the NJ from the mainland took around ~45 minutes, but worth heading to Mitsuwa Marketplace! Especially, during the afternoon while the onigiri being made! These onigiri were unreal, the rice didn't need to be that good. If you plan on getting 4, just save yourself any regrets and double your order. Also, if wondering what to order, at least pick up one spam musubi, even better just pick up two.Out of this world experience and extremely cost effective meal.
