We recently dined at a charming locally-owned Mexican restaurant that truly captures authentic Mexican flavors. From the moment we arrived, the cozy atmosphere and live music set a welcoming tone, and the performer's beautiful voice added to the experience.
We started with the jalapeños rellenos, a delightful fried jalapeño appetizer, which was stuffed with ham and cheese served with a deliciously smoked creamy dipping sauce. We spilt the shrimp for dinner, which was served with rice, beans and flour tortillas. This brought a serious punch of spice! If you love bold flavors, you'll appreciate the sauces here, but be warned—they are fiery, so use them sparingly. The fresh juices were a nice touch, and we especially loved the homemade tamarind juice, which was perfect for cooling down the heat from our meal.
While the chips weren’t as fresh as we would have liked, the flavorful salsa made up for it. Service was a bit slower than expected, but our server was sweet and polite, making us feel welcomed despite the wait.
This spot stands out for offering truly authentic Mexican cuisine—different from what you might expect at your average Mexican restaurant, which makes it worth the experience. If you’re craving an authentic experience and love supporting local businesses, I’d recommend giving this place a try!

Badly cooked food
Very good authentic Mexican food. We took a weekend trip to the city of NYC in Vermont where you don't find any Mexican restaurants and this restaurant really made me return to Mexico with its food. We ordered pozole and it was very good even though I'm from the north. In Mexico where the pozole is red, it was still delicious, this will be our favorite restaurant when we return to visit the city and the way they served us was perfect 10/10 with the little girl who served us I don't remember her name I only know that her parents were Mexican and Puerto Rican ❤️ Thank you for your service

The food was delicious when this was “Maravillas de Tulcingo”. Once they switched to “El Nopalito” about a year or so ago, the food quality and taste increasingly diminished. I assume they have new owners now. If you scroll down you will see 4/5 star reviews from when it was Maravillas de Tulcingo. Those reviews are not for this current restaurant. I do not recommend at all.
Never come here. They CHARGE way MORE than menu prices. Ripping people off!

We went with my family, and they overcharged us. The guacamole is smaller than the chips. They charged me $27 for two guacamoles. When I ordered 2 guacamoles for $6.50, they told me that the one they gave me was a large one. They charged me $5 per horchata when it said $4 for one. And they wanted to charge me the tip. They are scammers. The prices are not what they are. The fine print says prices vary. It was a robbery. I'm never coming back. Bad service.

I ordered an order of mole and I really never thought they would give me only chicken and beans. I called on the phone asking that I wanted extra rice and they only gave me beans and chicken.

Bad information they give you a price when you are going to bring it it is another price, it is more tortilla than meat... in short they are miserable they only sell you the tortilla.

Called and placed an order for pickup and instead of confirming it they just hung up. When I went to go pick up they acted all confused and claimed I never placed an order. The girl on the phone was barely loud enough to hear and had terrible customer service on top of that.

The food was very bad. I ordered barbecue tacos but I think the barbecue was over. It was more tortilla than barbecue. Last time I was in the place, very bad.
