We had an extremely disappointing lunch at The Plating. My wife made a reservation for two couples, and we specifically noted in the reservation that we’d need a high chair for our friends’ 9-month-old baby. We also picked an earlier lunch time to be considerate and keep things quieter.
Our friends arrived less than 10 minutes late (because, baby), and we had barely sat down and started talking when a staff member (possibly the owner) abruptly told us we had to order immediately due to “capacity issues.” The restaurant was empty at the time, so this came off as unnecessary and hostile. She was speaking in Korean to my wife, but the tone was clearly rude and abrasive (which my wife later confirmed).
It got worse when she insisted we couldn’t have both a high chair and a stroller and then took the high chair away - even after the baby’s mom asked to keep it. We were seated in a back corner against two walls, and there were obvious, customer-service-oriented ways to position the stroller and high chair without blocking walkways. Instead, we were treated like an inconvenience and the employee / owner went out of her way to make our lives more difficult.
The food might be fine, but the service and attitude completely ruined the experience. I won’t be returning. I’d give 0 stars if I could.

INCREDIBLE. Ten minutes into the meal, I rented out the restaurant for this year's Thanksgiving meal for 17 family members. The food is fresh and the plating is aesthetically beautiful.

What an amazing experience we had at The Plating! We dined with my brother who’s been raving about this place. It was one of the best elevated Korean food we’ve ever had.
My husband (professional chef) was blown away by the quality of food!
We started out with Gujeolpan, and ordered Braised Angus short rib, Sotbab with sliced brisket. Every dish was prepared perfectly and banchan (side dish) were freshly made by the chef.
Pricing was reasonable for the quality they provide. Anyone who’s been to modern Korean restaurants in NYC will appreciate the value of food you are getting at The Plating. We felt the chef’s passion and dedication to this wonderful restaurant. We will definitely come back with rest of our family and friends in a near future.
Decor, table setting, plates.. all the details of the restaurant were curated by the owner. If anyone wants to experience authentic modern Korean cuisine, it is worthwhile to travel to this restaurant in NJ.

Good atmosphere with service. Food was ok, but not with great varierty.
Good for invite guests
I think this place is the best korean restaurant in nj. The price is a bit expensive but the food quality is very good
The waiter was very rude, unprofessional, and not friendly at all which made me regret leaving a tip.
The food wasn't bad though.
Will not visit again anytime soon.
Everything is fine, but the service is very bad. The portion size is too small, and the price is high... I think it would be better to spend this money and go to another Korean restaurant with good service. It would be nice if only this part could be fixed. The food was so delicious!

Nice modern Korean restaurant. We ordered Gujeolpan for appetizer, and Neobiani and Branzino sotbap for main dishes. Everything was delicious and neatly plated, but I think they’re a bit overpriced compared to other contemporary Korean restaurants in the area. Bring cash - thank me later.

I have not eaten in this place yet but the way they run their business have already shown me how bad their mentality about service is. I have tried to make a reservation as I told they have very few tables. Their website booking system does not work, google reservation does hot work. And they do jot have any other system. Therefore I called and they were fully booked for today. Then I asked for tomorrow and they said that they are not fully booked but they do not have a table for two. I could not understand so asked them what that means… so… this table is for 4 people and if they do not sell the four seat they cannot give you the table… what??? What kind of business is that!!!! So I am asking them as I am making a reservation and for sure we are going if I can take that table and sit two people… and they said that there could be a walking in group of four people… is it me? Or am I the only one not understanding the philosophy of this restaurant??? What a greedy people. So if they cannot sell the entire table they would waste on a customer who wants to eat there… extremely disappointed indeed.

Out of so many Korean restaurants I’ve tried in NYC/Northern NJ areas, I have to say this place is the most authentic Seoul-style Korean food I’ve had so far. I kept thinking I need to bring my parents to this place as I was savoring every dish that came with my Sotbob. I rarely touch banchans at other places but this place goes the extra mile even for their banchans…!! Highly recommend this place

Today, I have decided to have our luncheon at the Plating.
I chose Sot-Bap with pan-seared Branzino. I don't eat rice often when I go to restaurants, but it was so delicious that I almost ate it all because I felt terrible about leaving any leftovers.
The side dishes weren't too salty, and they were perfect.
The number of side dishes was just right, and the dishes were charming. I can tell the owner had paid a lot of attention.

The food is thoughtfully prepared, served in a charmingly modern setting and tastes really good. From the presentation of each dish to the elegant table settings, every detail is refined. The flavors are perfectly balanced, neither overwhelming nor underwhelming.
