Small location, really cozy, bright & clean with parking. Seems like the place where everyone would know your name. Really fresh food, great service. Had a turkey burger which was just ok until I added the coleslaw to it that took it up a notch. all the ingredients were fresh & my wife had the buffalo chicken sandwich which was just great. We were the last customers before closing & had some fried mozzarella rice calls as appetizers That were fresh & delicious. Had the coffee cake & gluten free apple cinnamon cake that my taste buds could not tell & they taste like small batch grandma baked cakes, Butter Warning! I actually ordered another set of each to take back home with us. Was so full, we drove down to Ashbury park to walk along the beach the burn off some calories. Will definitely keep this spot on my list of place for breakfast or lunch when down this side of Jersey or driving up through Pennsylvania.

This place is the real deal!!! The wonderful women who makes everything from scratch puts love and hole bunch of butter in every pastry she creates and it is delicious. The non-sweet food is really good too. I hate I won't be able to experience breakfast there. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area.

We stopped at this adorable and very delicious place on RT 33 in Farmingdale called The Local Diner and Bakery..the food was amazing, the chef l/co-owner is this adorable little Irish gal..Terri..soooo personable..everything is made fresh..her co-owner, James, is great. You do wait a little bit for you food. You are not getting a frozen burger!!! The booth chairs are made from old church pews. Her desserts are also homemade. This place is a must try..

It's a cozy little diner & there's a wait for your food because it's all homemade as it's ordered. All food is made from scratch & they have a wide variety on their menu. It's not diner food it's restaurant quality food. They have food on their menu that you only get in good restaurants. It's definitely a great place to eat. We found our new place.

A real Mom and Pop dinner and bakery. Those complaining about the wait, well that's how long food made fresh is supposed to take. Hand made burgers, not some pressed burger with 40 ingredients!! Started with French onion soup, very good hot and melted cheese was good. Mom had western omelet, and the potato's. Both excellent! I got a bacon cheese burger. Perfectly cooked and delicious!! Took crumb cake to go which my daughter loved!! Great place!!

I've been going back and forth on my rating for The Local Diner & Bakery. On one hand I like to support local businesses and help new, hardworking business owners learn from criticism and succeed. On the other hand there are still some kinks they're working out, with confusion being a prevailing theme. What I liked about the establishment that drew me in in the first place was the promise of fresher-than-average, homemade diner food. Upon walking in the staff seemed friendly, and I had a good feeling about them as well as the food. A hot chocolate I ordered came out tasting like it was prepared fresh with milk and syrup rather than a pre-packaged mix, and it was exemplary once prepared with the fresh whipped cream and cinnamon that the menu describes. Then I had their pot roast sandwich, which is also an exemplary example of a dish that isn't often available on restaurant menus. The au jus was particularly palatable, whereas that isn't the case everywhere. The fries seemed like they were out of a frozen package rather than homemade as some menu items state, but they were nonetheless tasty. The Black Forest cake I ended the meal with was also quite good, but I didn't appreciate the sloppy presentation as I prefer my cake to be one solid slice that I can stick my fork into to enjoy all of the layers at once. I'm going to overlook most of the mistakes made throughout the meal, as every single item had some sort of issue compared to the menu or my order that was quickly corrected, but it is inexcusable how I found three discrepancies on the check compared to the menu after already pointing out an error when I received the check: they had charged me $16.95 for the pot roast dinner as opposed to $7.95 for the sandwich I had ordered with an add-on of fries. Even after fixing this the add-ons and total pricing on my check was still off $5-$8 depending on one's interpretation of the menu. I'm not going to make a big deal out of this, but I did still feel like I should have pointed the other errors out since I don't ever encounter this sort of issue where the menu and check aren't consistent. I'm going to take mercy on a new business and bump a ~ 3.5 star rating up to 4.0 stars, but they need to learn and follow the menu better. My eager server seemed to know it, but it was ironically the manager that made all of the errors. The Local Diner could be a fine alternative to more traditional Jersey diners that focus on large portions and value, as they offer admittedly smaller portions with higher quality that should be better in theory, if they more closely follow menu descriptions and pricing. I wish them luck.

First visit today. Very friendly and attentive staff. Food was delicious. Happy they have many gluten free options and baked goods. Spoke to the owner and said they are careful when preparing gf items. Will definitely be back soon. Posting a picture of the gluten free banana nut waffle.
