Honestly Hong Kong garden is so good. Probably the best Chinese food I’ve ever ate. The owner was super sweet and nice. We were served tea and wontons with duck sauce as a lil appetizer. It was very good. My boyfriend and I enjoyed everything we had. It was really authentic soup and had the perfect consistency, flavor and texture. The kung pow chicken was delicious and perfeclty spicy and I had veggie fried rice with it, the rice was perfect. My significant other had a noodle egg dish with chicken and it was delicious. 20/10 would recommend to anyone to try and go here. ❤️

4.3 stars are definitely too low for my favorite Somerset Chinese restaurant. I live in Manhattan but commutes to my work in Somerset and this is my go to place when I meet friends and colleagues for lunch. I've known the owner for more than 7 years and he has remained professional and loves his work. I've yet to be disappointed with any dish and usually tried new ones when I visited. Highly recommended.

1. I ordered three special lunch and paid in cash. The owner gave me $8 in change. When I asked for a receipt, he went back to the system and selected the lunch set, charging me an extra $4. He explained that paying in cash meant no tax. I reiterated that I had ordered the special lunch, and after some slow back-and-forth, he finally redid the receipt. This time, with tax, he gave me back $8.55. What a logic genius the owner is! 2. There was a piece of steel wool in the rice. Luckily, I didn’t eat it. As battle-hardened as we are, we can usually remain calm, but this chunk of steel wool was just too long. 3. Two hours after eating, my friends and I started fighting over the bathroom, officially transforming into Splatoon warriors.

After reading the reviews, I was eager to order takeout from Hong Kong Gardens. Maybe it was too late in the evening, because their food was subpar. The lo mein was not even warm and it was dry; with no extra sauce at the bottom of the carton. The moo shoo was okay, but it had some kind of fungus in it. I guess that’s one of their ingredients. The rice was mushy and tasteless. We dumped it after we both ate a mouthful. The chicken lo mein had very little chicken in it. And some of the dumplings had soy sauce spilled on them; but, we don’t like soy sauce. I guess it’s too late to correct after you get home with your order. And the worker wanted me to buy pork dumplings which I don’t eat. Was he trying to get rid of them because it was late in the evening?
The lady at the register was super kind to us. Great service, the food is great and not pricey.

If you're in the Somerset/New Brunswick area and craving some bomb Chinese food, I got you. This place is always spotless, and the staff is super friendly. Just a heads up, the food can take a bit, so if you're in a rush, give them a call and order ahead. Trust me, it's worth the wait!
