Amazing food in this hidden gem! The restaurant is both casual yet beautiful, quaint but not pretentious. Perfectly executed ambiance with absolutely delicious food. Every plate that came out was better than the next. Cannot wait to go back again.
Sophie's is indeed a gem of a restaurant for anyone looking for a high quality ambience and specialty food (French) in Somerset, NJ and surrounds. I simply love my visits here and the escargot is the first thing (it happens to an appetizer available both for lunch and for dinner) I get to order and then everything else. Besides the escargot I strongly recommend for the entrees (pepper steak, duck and the trout besides a whole lot of other tempting delicacies). The service is excellent and the bathrooms are always very clean . There is ample parking in the lot containing Sophie's and so no need to worry about parking and having a great time at the restaurant.
Partners birthday with son and daughter. Cocktails spot on. Appetizers were perfect. We all had different entrees, and we had fun tasting each other's dinner. Bottle of red with dinner then coffee and dessert. Perfect evening
Sophie's Bistro is one of our go-to restaurants. It's such a gem of a place and never disappoints. Owner Peter is one of the most warmest host.
We are repeat customers to Sophie's bistro. We've never had a bad meal there. The food is excellent; the service is fantastic – highly recommended. Deodorant Peter is there waiting to share with you his favorite liquor.
The Alsatian Fest food is excellent. I appreciate Sophie's Bistro's regular menu as well as the various special events the restaurant schedules. Consistently good ! Great service !
Excellent evening! Dinner was delicious and service was attentive, without being overbearing. It's like a mini vacation to France.
Always a great experience! Staff is warm, welcoming and attentive. All of the food we have sampled over the years has been delicious. Accomodating to my GF needs and there are noted GF options on the menu. This trip we had Eggs Benedict (Cured Salmon and Traditional) and two salads (Duck and another). All were exceptional. We shared a Flourless Chocolate Cake which was extremely light. We never felt rushed. This is a centralized go to place for us when meeting from NYC, locally and the Jersey Shore. I highly recommend it even with the travel.
Came to this restaurant for the first time, and we will be back. This was a great meet up spot for friends, and the menu sounded amazing. We all had different entrées and each one of us enjoyed them. It is challenging to find French food and when we approached this restaurant, it definitely didn't give a French vibe from the outside, but the inside was totally adorable. The service was amazing and the owner came around to make sure everyone was happy. Highly recommend.
Wonderful and authentic French food in NJ. The only nit to pick is that it's not in the best part of town. But food is great, service is friendly, will go back regularly. I was recently in Paris and missed the steak and frites dish, so I made it up at Sophie's.

First review I've ever written about a restaurant. Had the sliced duck and my companion had the Steak Au Poivre. We ordered both medium rare and they were way overcooked (no pink at all) and completely flavorless, even the sauce that accompanied the steak. The steak was particularly disappointing given it says right on the menu "we do not recommend this be cooked well done". The potatoes au gratin were also overcooked and flavorless. When I politely told our waitress she seemed disappointed but neither her, our other waitress, or the gentleman that handed us the bill said a word afterwards which was particularly disappointing. Wouldn't recommend and unfortunately won't be coming back.
There was a special mussels dinner happening when we were at Sophie's Bistro. Several different sauces offered. We got the green curry coconut milk mussels for the table as an appetizer and they were absolutely delicious. Plus the bread is so fresh and delicious as well. Two of us got the Duck Confit Salad for dinner and one got a chicken dish. All very good. The servers were attentive and patient and the manager/owner? came by to check on us a couple of times. It is a small place and it filled up on a Friday night so I would suggest making a reservation, but definitely worth eating here.
As always, a great dining experience. Food is grand, service impeccable and the ambiance quaint and original.
The cuisine and service was excellent as always, The specials were a variety of mussels. We had two different mussels. Both were excellent. There were six different choices.
Sophie's has been a go to for me for over 15 years. The food is always bountiful , the service friendly and efficient, the drinks crafted with care. There is a warm and homey atmosphere in this neighborhood gem that you seldom get in other places.
