Good authentic Japanese food
Limited drink options
Slower pace
I’ve lived in Monroe , NJ now for 3 years and haven’t been able to find a decent sushi spot, that is until now. My cousin has been telling me about this spot in Freehold for a few weeks now and finally my girlfriend and I had dinner here with him and it was fantastic! Everything we ordered were from the daily specials - Salmon Avocado Misiti’s Sauce (spectacular!), Toro Taku Rice (AMAZING!), and Fluke Uzuzukuri Poazu (delicious!) were my favorites but everything we ordered was top quality!
We arrived as soon as they opened at 5pm on a Sunday so we got there before the rush and yes there is typically a rush from what I was told. The owner spent a lot of time talking with us as she knows my cousin who has become a regular and she was absolutely charming. I’m looking forward to going back here and becoming a regular myself.

REAL DEAL! Sushi by Kazu is such a gem if you’re looking for truly authentic Japanese food. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared, fresh, and full of flavor—it’s the kind of place that reminds you what real Japanese cuisine should taste like.
What made the experience even more special was meeting the owner, Naiomi. She’s an absolute sweetheart—warm, welcoming, and clearly passionate about what she does. You can feel that care reflected in every detail of the restaurant.
The place itself is spotless, with a clean, calming ambiance that makes you want to slow down and really enjoy your meal. It’s simple, cozy, and just the right vibe whether you’re dining solo or with friends.
Definitely a spot I’d keep coming back to. Highly recommend if you appreciate authentic food, genuine hospitality, and a beautifully kept space.

went here for dinner with my friend, the sever was so rude giving us and other people around us problems. My friend ordered the special roll of the day and did not like it, we asked the server to kindly remove the item off our bill and she and the manager started arguing with us and refused to take it off the bill. I would not recommend coming here unless you want to pay a hefty bill and get attitude thrown at you by the workers.

This place has terrible customer service! Went in there trying to get seated for a group of seven, we were told no big groups. No information was provided ahead of time to know even know that was the case cause they don’t answer their phones We asked if we could split a group of four and a group of three and they even refused that! . They don’t take reservations so it’s impossible to try to go there. Other options in freehold so take your business elsewhere.
Sometimes reviews don’t need to be about the food… They need to be about the service. I have always had excellent food at this place. Yesterday, went to make a reservation on Google for two people at 6:00 PM. Google couldn’t accept the reservation and kept trying all day. Finally, we went to the restaurant at 6 PM only to have a very rude, and inexperienced young hostess look at us and say there’s an hour and a half wait and begin to walk away. I said wait a minute… I kept trying to make the reservation and nobody called me back to confirm. She simply said oh we don’t take reservations to which I said well… Then you should fix it online to not let people think that you do. While talking to her and looking around, I noticed almost 6 empty tables and one right in the middle of the restaurant for two with a few flower vases on them. I said very politely, none of those tables are available? And she said no, they are all taken. Well that’s odd. If you don’t take reservations, and nobody is here, how can the tables be taken. Mind you nobody was outside waiting. Didn’t try to accommodate, certainly didn’t apologize for any misunderstanding, and basically turned her back and walked away. So, to this restaurant, if you want someone to properly represent your brand, your passion, and your quality, that needs to start with the front of the house. They do represent you when you aren’t looking. I most likely will not go back as a result of this and for the silver lining, we found a brand new place, not far away that we had never known of that was excellent: Attitudes matter.

Sushi by Kazu is a must-visit for sushi lovers in Freehold!
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Sushi by Kazu, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The sushi was incredibly fresh, and the presentation was beautiful. I ordered a variety of rolls, and each one was expertly crafted with a perfect balance of flavors and textures.
The service was also outstanding. Our server (owner) was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They were happy to answer our questions and offer recommendations. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, making it a great place to enjoy a meal with friends or family.
Overall, I highly recommend Sushi by Kazu to anyone looking for high-quality sushi in Freehold. I can't wait to go back!

We ate here one time and enjoyed the sushi. We have gone back twice in the past month at dinner time and both times were told there was an hour wait. The restaurant barely had anyone there. Tonight we were told “if you’re hungry, probably not a good idea to wait”. Both times we then ate at the Vietnamese restaurant in same plaza. It was very good! Will not return to this sushi place.

Kazu’s sushi is like no other. Delicious, fresh, unique.
For once it is the CUSTOMERS who shall show respect and humbly wait, rather than demand: here & now.
I see all of the reviews with such “horrible customer service experience”, however it is you who still doesn’t get it.
Sushi by Kazu does not run on the rules you execute, but instead, they dictate their own- and that is what you don’t like… change your attitude and you will be served this amazing sushi…. or keep complaining and eat s***t elsewhere🙏.

Terrible service. They close at 9. Arrived at 8:10 only to have the woman walk up to the door and literally lock it in our face. No explanation and she wouldn’t come back to the door to answer any questions. We’ve been here before, the food is good, but this isn’t the first time we’ve encountered this woman and her terrible service. Last time we were rushed to order and she came up to our table every 3 minutes asking if we were finished because she needs to clean up.
They found the most obnoxious waitress in all of Jersey.
Beware before you waste your time.
