The Garden State is known for its diverse culinary scene, offering a wide range of dining options to cater to every palate and dietary preference. For health-conscious individuals, finding an establishment that offers delicious and nutritious meals can be a rewarding experience. Located at the Riverside Mall in Hackensack, True Food Kitchen is a chef-driven culinary experience. Each of their kitchens has an executive chef at its helm, crafting wholesome, intentionally sourced ingredients into flavorful creations open for brunch, lunch, and dinner. The reservation was easily made through OpenTable. Upon entering as first-timers last night, my partner, our friends, and I were greeted by the host and stepped into a spacious room over 6,000 sq. feet nicely filled with patrons, a bright and airy room full of greenery with a welcoming vibe. Our table was ready by the window. Outdoor dining is available, weather permitting, with a massive patio with bright yellow umbrellas. Their clearly labelled seasonally rotating menu has a heavy focus on healthy eating, featuring burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, salads, and entrees with vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-friendly options. They have a full bar with wine and beer selections, plus specialty craft cocktails. As a starter, we decided on the Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Edamame Dumplings to share. For our mail meal, we opted for Grilled Salmon, All-American Burger, Spaghetti Squash Casserole, Chicken Parmesan and a side of Honey Roasted Carrots. We washed them down with Pomegranate Spritzer with Tito Vodka, Stella Artois, Rose Sangria, and Grapefruit Martini. The food was delicious, perfectly cooked, and packed with flavor, using the best ingredients. One can taste how light and fresh each dish was. The meal felt filling without feeling overly stuffed. The staff was friendly and attentive. Our server, Jorge, was extremely professional and offered us some great recommendations. We had an amazing dining experience.
I love True Food Kitchen...food and drinks are consistently good. Good value in today's market.
the food was delicious and i think its great to have the calories on each meal def helpful in making healthy choices
While the food was pretty decent there were too many issues to offer a better rating. I ordered the grass fed burger medium rare. It was closer to medium well. While the restaurant agreed and replaced the burger, my beard grew about three inches waiting for the replacement. This was after we all had to wait what felt like practically until breakfast to get served. Also note that the included simple salad with the burger is just lettuce and two slices of tiny thin cucumber. The value just isn't there. My wife had the tuna poke bowl. While she said it tasted good, it was a tiny serving for 60% more money than you would pay for twice the amount of food anywhere else. Add to that the simple fact that the sound level was akin to a loud rock concert and True Food Kitchen is just not worth it. The food is good, but the value, service and noise make this a must miss.
True Food has been a favorite go-to of mine. However, My experience last night was extremely disappointing. It seemed the restaurant was ill-equipped for dining on a Monday evening. Food came out poorly cooked (inedible rice as it was so hard), ice-cold chinese chicken salad seemed straight from the fridge, a Teriyaki Bowl which was completely tasteless, and the restaurant was out of carrot cake and peppermint tea which the server was unaware of until after taking our order. Overall, I will never go back on a Monday evening. I understand that Mondays may not draw a large dining crowd, but then the restaurant should close on Mondays rather than serving lackluster food.
One of the things that I love most is that the food is always consistently great and the Service amazing!
We have been going to True Food for years. The food is wonderful, thoughtfully fresh and prepared, but the service is consistently bad. No other way to say it. On this night, the waitress forgot to put my daughter's meal in causing us to have to wait 15 minutes for a child's burger and fries. Awkward timing to check in with table to see if everything was ok. I was a waiter in my younger years, and common sense and attention towards people, especially when they eat, is paramount to good service. We'd go to True Food more often but we need to psychologically dear up to deal with the terrible service.
really good food, i'm glad they added real meat total check was wrong, corrections applied

I had such a great experience thanks to our server, Justin. From the moment we sat down, he was warm, friendly, and genuinely attentive without ever feeling overbearing. He knew the menu inside and out and gave really helpful recommendations based on what we liked.
