Maria Bonita is a hidden gem tucked away two minutes west of Hackettstown. This place has improved 5fold since my last visit (which was still pretty good). I ordered the hard shell tacos and was extremely impressed. Others in my party ordered traditional Mexican favorites and couldn't get enough. Michael the general manager and Alayna the service manager went above and beyond their respective duties (not just for us) to ensure we had an excellent experience. I've found my new favorite Mexican restaurant.

I’ve been a regular here since moving to the area, but after last night, I won’t be coming back. My family and I went to Maria Bonita, and they refused to serve us food when they were still open. They had a private party inside, yet people were still eating outside that we knew weren’t part of the party. Even the security guard mentioned we should be able to eat outside, but the same employee (who always has an attitude) told us “no” they can’t serve us. We ended up going to La Mezcalita in Budd Lake instead and it was way better overall. Really good food and drinks. 10 mins from Maria’s. I really hope they learn to handle situations more professionally, because being rude to regular customers is not the way to do business.

I kind of have a rule when going to a restaurant like this one which is, stick to ground beef and avoid chicken. Because I normally order nachos, I decided to have something different. I ordered the Fiesta Mexicana which consisted of a ground beef taco, a chicken Tinga and a chicken flauta. I also specifically asked for no cilantro in anything. Big mistake on all counts. The taco was loaded with cilantro and both chicken dishes were as dry as a bone. The best part of my meal was the rice and beans. How a “chef” could send out dry chewy chicken is beyond me and should be ashamed of themselves.

I ordered a burrito that came wrapped in paper. It was loaded with rice and beef. No sides with meal. Wife ordered 3 soft shell chicken tacos. No lettuce, tomatoe or cheddar cheese toppings. No side of refried beans. Just 2 flat shells with chicken. Thats it! It was funny but not for $13!

The chips are stale, the salsa wasn't salsa, the queso.. wasn't queso
The fajitas was overpriced and didn't have spices.

Got there around noon for a light lunch with kids. I’ve door dashed from the restaurant before but never went inside and was really shocked how dirty the restaurant was. It was dark, flies everywhere, sticky and humid. I can only assume if the dining floor is this dirty that the kitchen is. The chips and salsa were ok but one of the chips had either a segment of a fly leg laying on it or a split end of someone’s hair. Then the steak in my kids steak tacos tasted chemical in a way. Which I’ve never experienced card when I ordered via DoorDash . Safe to say I won’t be coming back and wish I was ignororant to these issues cuz we did order them thru DoorDash a lot

Highly recommend, the food and service here are fantastic. Items are made authentically and delicious. We tried the beef quesadilla (delicious), the taco salad and the chicken enchiladas rojas, everything was well made and fresh and the portions are generous. Jesse was warm, helpful and accommodating. Definitely will be going back.

I've recently moved from Passaic County to Warren. I've been to Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic County Mexican restaurants, their fajita skillet is amazing! And that's underrating it. Great food. Tremendous steak, chicken, shrimp. Their Guacamole is tremendous. Easy Top 3 of all my experiences. Their food is worth every penny.
Their service is atrocious. Terrible. Lazy, inattentive. Couldn't get napkins, drinks or sour cream to the table. As if we weren't in the restaurant.
Food is a 10! Easy 10
Service is a miserable 0.
I'm going back cause I'm a foodie. Let's get the service together
