Smash burger is very much NOT a smash burger. Very mediocre, even it was just a burger. Chicken croquette monsieur also mediocre. Chicken should have been pounded out, bread was soggy, sandwich cold. Because of holiday parties, service was very slow. Best part of the meal was the French Onion Soup. Good balance of soup, onions, bread and Gruyère.
An amazing experience on Thanksgiving! Food is great, service is spectacular, ambience is very nice and cozy! Highly recommend to anyone visiting NJ for the holidays or else!
Another great dining experience at Rats. Our server, Aime, was friendly and accommodating.
Excellent service by Amy and as always a delicious lunch. I truly enjoy Rat's unique atmosphere.
Wonderful waitstaff. Drinks, while expensive, were a good Pour and tasty! Entree was a bit delayed, which was no problem for us as we were enjoying the experience and, unbidden, we were given a cheese platter to share for the wait. This was for a birthday dinner and dessert arrived with candles and Happy Birthday in chocolate. All in all wonderful experience.
Wonderful atmosphere. Reservation was handled well. Great setting. Excellent service - Nick was very helpful, prompt, and pleasant. Great salads - Cauliflower, Quinoa. Excellent onion soup. Cheese burger - just OK. Limited selection of main courses. Overall - great place.
Thr food was good, but very expensive. The portions were small for the price and not many options for lunch. One soup and one salad with added chicken was $47 and change.
The only restaurant open in October was Rat. It was our first time here and we were led in through the back patio entrance from the gardens. I have an electric mobility scooter and it was very difficult to maneuver. This place is NOT handicap friendly! We had to go all the way through the restaurant to check in at the front desk. Host was very slow, as others also commented. Food was ok, but overpriced. Service was good. Chair pads were disgustingly filthy, stained, and I assume unsanitary. Dinnerware was terribly worn. Desserts were $17 each! No signage and no one to tell us that exiting via the front door would take us to a parking lot, and NOT back into the gardens. Again, all this while trying to maneuver a mobility scooter. It was our 42nd anniversary and we were very frustrated to say the least. We will not return!
This is my 3rd visit to Rats. I had a wonderful lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. Service was fantastic and the food was excellent. We had the shrimp cocktail, pasta and cauliflower salad plus 2 great glasses of wine. We sat outside and it was lovely. NJ has a great restaurant and sculpture garden space. Who would have thought? Go and enjoy!!
Food was expensive for the quality. Menus was very limited. Place is beautiful and I guess that's what we paid for. I would go again just for the venue and not the food.

Beautiful ambiance... we attended at lunch time...pleasant, attentive and courteous wait staff .. my daughter and I both got the turkey croissant and my husband got the French dip .. both were delicious but I would order the French dip next time if another visit .. it came with the most delicious French fries ever and the French dip sandwich was most amazing... we ordered a shared dessert, a Chocolate cake- it was ok..it was enough for us 3.. we sat at 11:45 am and it was enough time to enter at 1:00 pm for our timed entry to grounds for sculpture.. I would ask for a shaded table - under an awning and near to the water if making a reservation- I think you can request this- otherwise it can be very bright and sunny or outdoor dining which I would highly recommend because it is so beautiful..enjoy
If you don't mind being treated with indifference, you might enjoy this place. My friend and I were less than impressed with the attitude of the staff. To a person, except the bartender, we were treated as if we were keeping them from more important tasks. Food was expensive and just OK, so the service should have made the grade. It did not.
There is no more relaxing and scenic spot for dining al fresco. The food is excellent, and the staff is attentive. Inside, too, the ambience is wonderful. The whole experience is like being transoorted to a French chateau in the countryside.
Very romantic. Beautiful grounds. Food was delicious. Service was very attentive. Lovely decor. A wonderful ending to a beautiful day T the sculpture park.
Did not have first choice for menu item. Cheeseburger arrived raw, despite asking for well done. Server did his best but they were short staffed. Expensive for quality of food.
