The only restaurant open in October was Rat. It was our first time here and we were led in through the back patio entrance from the gardens. I have an electric mobility scooter and it was very difficult to maneuver. This place is NOT handicap friendly! We had to go all the way through the restaurant to check in at the front desk. Host was very slow, as others also commented. Food was ok, but overpriced. Service was good. Chair pads were disgustingly filthy, stained, and I assume unsanitary. Dinnerware was terribly worn. Desserts were $17 each! No signage and no one to tell us that exiting via the front door would take us to a parking lot, and NOT back into the gardens. Again, all this while trying to maneuver a mobility scooter. It was our 42nd anniversary and we were very frustrated to say the least. We will not return!

Beautiful ambiance... we attended at lunch time...pleasant, attentive and courteous wait staff .. my daughter and I both got the turkey croissant and my husband got the French dip .. both were delicious but I would order the French dip next time if another visit .. it came with the most delicious French fries ever and the French dip sandwich was most amazing... we ordered a shared dessert, a Chocolate cake- it was ok..it was enough for us 3.. we sat at 11:45 am and it was enough time to enter at 1:00 pm for our timed entry to grounds for sculpture.. I would ask for a shaded table - under an awning and near to the water if making a reservation- I think you can request this- otherwise it can be very bright and sunny or outdoor dining which I would highly recommend because it is so beautiful..enjoy

There is no more relaxing and scenic spot for dining al fresco. The food is excellent, and the staff is attentive. Inside, too, the ambience is wonderful. The whole experience is like being transoorted to a French chateau in the countryside.

Did not have first choice for menu item. Cheeseburger arrived raw, despite asking for well done. Server did his best but they were short staffed. Expensive for quality of food.

This is the worst dining experience I have ever had. This was the last birthday I would experience with my dad in the United States. Possibly the last I would ever have with him, and the family together. When we arrived they had said they would not be seating us outside, where I booked my reservation. I assumed later due to a mix of our large party, and them having gave away all the outdoor seating to walk-ins. The service felt slow and rushed simultaneously we were seated 15 mins early. Likely not helping the kitchen that is overwhelmed, but as a family with French roots, dining in a restaurant that considers its cuisine to be French. You expect the quality of the food to meet the philosophy of life the culture emphasizes. When you dine in an expensive restaurant you expect everything from the dinner, to service to be sophisticated. Why should we have to wait an eternity and constantly ask our nice waitress if we can have another bottle of water, or if we'd like to have more bread please. As nice as our waitress was I can't tell if she is new or overwhelmed by the service. Due to the small menu everyone quickly knew their orders. All 8 of us ordered appetizers, my French onion soup was ok, but I've made better. They arrived in 15-20 mins, which gave me the impression dinner is not far behind. We sat there waiting for more than +50 mins until we were assured it's on the way. By then the restaurant almost empty. When dinner arrived everyone's plate was cold, the béarnaise aioli I feared would be overly complicated for no reason. Aioli and béarnaise just doesn't work, I'd rather just have the sauce without ruining it with garlic. I had to physically wrestle with my food that I can still hear mooing I said medium rare I did not say rare, my sister in law asked for medium well but she had gotten the dish I had asked for which she barely ate. I was starving so I ate what was edible and left my cold French fries largely intact. The desert was good. I left in shock

We have been members of Grounds for Sculpture for years and have never eaten at Rats. It didn't disappoint. Definitely will be back

Beautiful restaurant inside and out! Food was delicious. Service was impeccable. We will be back.
We enjoyed the food but it took to long to get. Apparently something was going on with the chef and our waiter. We never got a straight answer. The table next to us received their food 45 minutes before we got ours and the orders were taken at the same time for the same items by the the same waiter. . The manager did treat us to dessert because of the delay. Unfortunately because of this we lost a lot of time to enjoy the gardens.

A wonderful birthday experience! The setting was beautiful and relaxing, with a view of the pond, graced with a blue heron! The food and beverages were delicious and beautifully presented. The two factors preventing a 5 rating were the the soup arrived with pecans on top after telling them of my tree nut allergy (it was comped as my partner enjoyed it), and we had to wait a very long time to get the bill due to a large party taking up our waitress time. Both pretty minor issues really. Id definitely recommend and would return for another special occasion.
