The most French place in Hoboken (but not in a good way).

Multiple frustrating experiences at this place where the prices on the board do not match what you pay - as an example, chouquettes are advertised 6 for 5$ but they make you pay 6$ same for the madeleines; and when letting the staff know they refuse to honor the price advertised.

Quality of items highly vary - I found Ottok or Yuki to have much better pastries.

The vegan croissant and vegan Chocopain were delicious!

In desserts, loved their Vegan Tarte Ganache Chocolat Noisettes (Chocolate Hazelnut)!

Couldn’t get my hands on their Sourdough bread, they sell out pretty fast!

nice coffee shop, good food, friendly staff. I do often have to leave after a bit- it seems taking zoom calls and listening to tiktok vids on high volume are now the standard in the seating area. I wish they would re-open the back room or boot the non-headphone using peeps to the curb. Catch it on a good day and its pretty great.

Of all the Choc O Pain in the JC/Hoboken area, this one is the most spacious and best to work from or read a book in. The proximity to water front is another big plus too.

This café is fine if you're in the area and craving french pastry and a coffee. Service is rather quick and staff are friendly.
I guess the pastry is freshest in the morning as its' then, that all are prepared. If you turn up for afternoon tea, expect to be eating the remaining pastry/croissants etc from the morning. In my case I ate Madelaine which tasted good but were bit dry and not as bouncy as they're supposed to be anymore. Flat white was ok, crema not super smooth but not too rough either, cup not filled to the top though (as a flat white is supposed to be). Espresso is served in a nice little cup and is good. Flavourful and not too hot.

Bakery with a very pleasant atmosphere. Perfect for relaxing while eating succulent French pastries like croissants or financiers! The ham and cheese croissant is particularly delicious. Breads such as Bordeaux or cereal bread also have an authentic and crunchy taste.
A dynamic and smiling team that makes you want to come back to taste other pastries and drink other coffees ☕

Ordered the black tea but it was not good at all, there was a weird after taste. The mixed- berry tart was really good tho. My friend ordered a hot chocolate and it tasted like pain warm milk. Maybe it’s a French acquired taste, but who knows. She also wanted to dine in but they decided to make it to-go. They also forgotten my friend’s order and had to wait 20 mins for it. The staff seemed new and had no teamwork which made sense why the orders were taking so long.

The shabby interior and half-hearted "French" concept is giving off solid NGMI vibes: Rapid staff turnover, half-empty displays, bad coffee, no soap in bathrooms, visible storage areas, bad furniture. Even the wifi seems to have given up. Great location for a coffee shop (which is why it's probably lasted this long) but desperately in need of new management. The Hive or Bwe would kill it here.
