Great croissants, average coffee, terrible service, tired decor. I don’t understand when dining in why we are given things in packaging instead of mugs and plates. I use to tip out of kindness and courtesy but I refuse to now - food is never brought to us, the attitudes of the staff are rude and cold. I simply only come here because it’s by my apartment and the pain au chocolates are good.

Pros: Conveniently located

Cons:
- Old and nearly burnt/hard croissants even at 9am (waste of money)
- Worker(s) are disturbingly cold and rude; I was the only customer there...I could care less about having a whole conversation, but they can't seem to be bothered to respond to any type of greeting or gratitude given. The most miserable cafe worker(s) I've encountered. Even NYC cafes have better manners.

Response: Almond croissant. This was my first visit to this location. After reading reviews from the visit, it does not seem to be a one-off situation - your staff lack manners and hospitality. Happy to spend my hard-earned money elsewhere since it's a bother to serve customers here.

The most French thing about this place is the workers being so rude- eye rolls and talking complaints to one another while you’re ordering lol

the food , drinks are not bad
but this is the experience coming in:

-No greeting ( ignoring mine btw lol)
-Complaining about coworkers and eye rolls while you’re ordering
-Not following allergy request bc they were not listening and half paying attention bc too busy complaining to one another
- I say thanks have a good day and they quite literally slid my matcha latte to me and give a death stare
- also Luke warm matcha bc she put almost no ice

I thought California was bad, these people are miserable. This place had weird weird vibes every time I gave it a chance

I used to love this places but lately the quality went down so badly. I bought a slice of orange cake today and it was terrible. It was old, uncooked. I never had something so bad. How can they sell something so inedible?! They can get people sick.

Went there today at 6:05, and they close at 6. I went inside after a long walk on mothers day with my ELDERLY DAD. The woman at the register YELLED AT US THEY WERE CLOSING AND TO LEAVE and all I WANTED WAS WATER FOR MY DOG AND DAD. She then proceeded to yell NO DOGS ALLOWED when i wanted to do was get water for her. It was a hot day. Totally rude and never going back
****EDITED AFTER BUSINESS REPLY:
False information.
I was never asked if my dog was a service animal to which she WAS BECAUSE i have EPILEPSY.
Secondly, often times I brought the dog in, and would order and leave without any mention of a dog.
Lastly, I WAS YELLED AT THE SECOND I CAME IN AND I DIDNT EVEN ASK OR WANT A COFFEE DRINK.

The most French place in Hoboken (but not in a good way).

Multiple frustrating experiences at this place where the prices on the board do not match what you pay - as an example, chouquettes are advertised 6 for 5$ but they make you pay 6$ same for the madeleines; and when letting the staff know they refuse to honor the price advertised.

Quality of items highly vary - I found Ottok or Yuki to have much better pastries.

The vegan croissant and vegan Chocopain were delicious!

In desserts, loved their Vegan Tarte Ganache Chocolat Noisettes (Chocolate Hazelnut)!

Couldn’t get my hands on their Sourdough bread, they sell out pretty fast!

nice coffee shop, good food, friendly staff. I do often have to leave after a bit- it seems taking zoom calls and listening to tiktok vids on high volume are now the standard in the seating area. I wish they would re-open the back room or boot the non-headphone using peeps to the curb. Catch it on a good day and its pretty great.

Of all the Choc O Pain in the JC/Hoboken area, this one is the most spacious and best to work from or read a book in. The proximity to water front is another big plus too.
