I recently celebrated my birthday here with family and friends! (Private party)
I had so much fun and would do it again all over again! Food was good, the vibes were there, and the staff was very attentive on making sure we were well taken care of.

Had dinner with my cousin tonight. Great food and service. Especially loved the fried snapper with djon djon rice, the goat stew, the akra. Chef Benel stopped by.

I will say that the Food was absolutely amazing. However, our food did take extremely long to come out. We had a reservation for just two at 8pm. We arrived at 7:55pm. When my husband and I arrived, we were the only customers there. Our appetizer didn’t come out until 8:40pm. The waitress came and asked about what we ordered about two times just to still bring out an extra order of rice that I didn’t ask for lol. But I didn’t make a big deal about it because at this point, I was just ready to eat and enjoy my night. But overall the food was really good I just think they need to work on their timing on bringing the food out and making sure the order is correct.

I’m so happy we finally have a Haitian restaurant in Jersey City! Friday October 10; I had time to visit with my family and my two year old and the space is beautiful! Staff is amazing. The food was GREAT 😌 especially the plantain cups 😋 I spent a little over $200 but it was worth it for a family of 5 and including the Fritay platter. Drinks, music and vibe all 5 stars in my opinion. Will be back for more

We had the pleasure of hosting our first Vote Day at Bettie’s Restaurant in Jersey City, and it was an incredible experience. Thank you to Chef Benel and his team for the warm hospitality, delicious food, and welcoming atmosphere.

From the outside you’d never guess what a hidden gem this place is! The ambiance is cozy, the dishes are amazing, and it’s perfect for small groups or even a romantic date night. We enjoyed breaking bread together while discussing our 2025 Warrior nominations, and it couldn’t have been a better setting.

We’ll definitely be returning!

I am writing to formally express my deep disappointment and frustration regarding the unacceptable service my guests and I received during our event at Bettie’s Restaurant on September 20, 2025 due to the significant shortcomings in what was promised versus what was delivered.

This event was booked well in advance with the owners assurance, Chef Benal, that the entire venue would be reserved exclusively for our party. However, when we arrived on time, we were surprised to see other patrons still dining. This was completely contrary to our agreement, and when questioned, the response that they would “leave soon” was both unprofessional and disingenuous.
Additional issues that severely impacted the evening include:

* The chef was not present when guests arrived, and staff were unaware of our reservation, showing a lack of communication and planning.
* The DJ did not arrive until 9:45 PM, despite the event starting at 7:00 PM.
* The food was served late and buffet-style without support, rather than a plated service suitable for a private event.
* Guests were charged for to-go plates, which felt inappropriate given the disorganized service.
* The open bar ran out of liquor early, clearly due to poor preparation for the confirmed party size.

What makes this more upsetting is that we came in good faith to support a Haitian-owned business in our own community. Instead, the experience was distasteful, disgraceful, and deeply saddening. This is precisely the kind of treatment that discourages people from supporting their own. Frankly, it’s hard to ignore the feeling that had we been white patrons, the level of service and consideration might have been very different. This event was supposed to be a celebration and instead, it became a source of embarrassment and regret.

Additionally, the service provided by the staff was extremely poor. Throughout the evening, tables were left cluttered with used plates, as staff rarely came around to clear them. No water was provided at the tables while guests waited for food, which added further discomfort and frustration. The overall lack of attentiveness and basic hospitality made the experience even more unpleasant and unacceptable.

Unfortunately, the experience was so poor that even one star feels generous.

I am very disappointed at my visit last night at Betty’s restaurant in New Jersey. My family booked this restaurant for September 20 7 PM for about 40 people when we arrive around seven-ish there were still people there and some of them didn’t leave till eight and we booked this place from seven to closing. We were not late people were trickling in. We’re coming from Brooklyn Queens in Long Island. We’re not from New Jersey, so we’re stuck in a little bit of traffic mind you the owner was paid the night before so taking on extra people while you know a party that booked you is coming that was the first mistake that they did as my family was trickling in. They acted like we did not book the place for the entire night telling us all we can’t sit here we can’t this place could literally only hold 40 people. They were trying to put us in a corner just to sit for some reason mind you we already told them that we are going to have this place the entire place so they try to keep people next no liquor they had a bottle bottles of Tito‘s some semi-sweet wine and one bottle of white wine if we pay you for 40 people $100 a person we only get three bottles you know Haitian could drink horrible horrible the third thing that really messed me up was that we also got a DJ we supposed to have this place from seven until we leave. The deer didn’t get there till 920 but then we all just wanted to leave was the food good it was decent to be honest with you even the food that they warmed up when they served us, it was cold. It was my mother‘s birthday. He went to go celebrate and I can’t believe that this is the service that they gave us not to mention that as we’re sitting down, none of the waiters are coming to us asking if you need water no, I don’t think a waiter spoke to anybody in my family that night. They just brought the food to the front and we had to go to the front to go get a drink like nobody was actually serving us and we paid and the person who was the bartender wasn’t supposed to even be that he was covering for somebody so he didn’t even know how to mix whatever a little drink that they had. I’m highly disappointed in this place and I would never ever recommend anybody to go here.

Review coming soon on TikTok!! This was by far THE WORST restaurant I’ve ever been too. It’s unfortunate to make this statement, but it has to be said. Unprofessional establishment and the audacity of the Haitian owner to treat such a large group with disgrace. A celebration of life that was fully paid for in advance was turned into complete chaos because of the greed of this establishment overbooking when the restaurant was supposed to be closed off for a PRIVATE EVENT. DONT COME HERE!

I would never recommend this place so I booked this place for my mother to celebrate her birthday. I already spoke with the owner that we have 40 people and we’re going to book the whole place when I get there. There are people there. My party was no more than 2030 minutes late because we’re coming from Brooklyn, Long Island and Queens. The service was horrible horrible service. They never checked on us to see if we needed water. It was supposed to be open bar, they had literally no liquor there. The owner dropped the ball super bad like this is ridiculous. I’m so mad. It’s hard for me to even write this for review. I would never recommend this to anybody no Haitian to support this person and then what makes it worse is we pay for the food, right and not everybody’s eating all of the food so we’ll let you know what let’s try to take some food home, this guy wants to charge us for food that we paid for. How does that make sense? I pay for food. We did not eat all the food now he wants to charge me to take the food that I already paid for this is why you can’t do business with Haitians. They are horrible. This was a white person. This would’ve not happened and I’m Haitian and I’m dropping this review. Pissed.

Worst place ever ✍🏽
This is my first time writing a review, but this place truly deserves it—for all the wrong reasons. Honestly, this was the worst experience I’ve ever had. We went there to celebrate my auntie, and I’m just glad it was only family, because the whole thing was so embarrassing.

We rented the place and even paid cash. When we arrived on time, a lot of people there. I drove all the way from NY just to make it there, and it was such a disappointment✍🏽The service was extremely late, and on top of that, they charged us extra for a to-go plate. Absolutely ridiculous 🙄There’s a lot more I could say, but I’ll keep the rest to myself . If you can’t handle business, go clock in somewhere

First time at Bettie’s in Jersey City and my friend and I had a great experience.

Cozy and authentic Haitian Restaurant bringing lots of bold Island flavors and celebrating Haitian cuisine and culture.

Here's everything I ordered:

🥠 Plantain Cups
🍲 Bouyon Soup
🍛 Djon Djon Rice
🥟 Herring patties
🍝 Seafood Pasta
🐠 Fritay Platter with Snapper
🍰 Tres Leches Cake

Everything was delicious 🔥🔥🔥 the plantain cups were packed with flavors. The Fritay Platter was huge and perfect to share. The soup OMGGGG. Chef Benel is super talented!!!

Lively atmosphere with afrobeats playing in the background. Beautifully decorated with Haitian art. Last but not least, this is a BYOB restaurant 🍷

Thanks for having us!!! Can’t wait to go back for more amazing Haitian flavors
