Still one of the better Chinese restaurants in the area but it seems the food quality has gone down.

#1 spicy beef noodle soup. Their lunch menu has great selections, too.

We first tried Chengdu a couple of years back, and initially it was just a take out spot with no seating. I'm glad to see they have expanded the restaurant and now have proper seating at the restaurant. We came here again over the weekend for early dinner to satisfy those spicy food cravings. We ordered a few things off the menu, fish and chicken dry pot...everything was super delicious bustling with flavors. We really liked how the amount of heat was just right, some places make it too spicy to enjoy the food but chefs here do a great job of managing flavors and spicyness. Don't let the location and lack luster outdoors fool you, this is really nice spot. Come here and you will thank me later!

Don’t come here! I’ve waited over 30 minutes for one dish to come up. At max there was only 5 tables.

Vegetarian mapo tofu + white rice was 5/5 — so tasty and well spiced!Mango milk tea bubble tea was 3/5 — way too much sugar and not filled to the brim. Would not repeat that boba.

Chengdu 1 is the best Chinese food in Jersey City. Everything is fresh and well made to order. The dishes are not over-sauced.I lived in Jersey City for 6 years before I found Chengdu 1 and I was always disappointed. It's a little pricier than some places in Jersey City, but it's definitely worth the difference in price for the difference in quality.

Have come here multiple times with my friends. This is a family-run business and all people there are lovely. Food there is good, especially considering its wallet-friendly pricing.I would rate Chengdu 1 as my everyday go-to place for Chinese food in Jersey City (not saying it’s best in food quality, but instead best overall - price+quality).

BEWARE OF TIP SCAMMING.My family and I would come here once a week to either dine in or get take out because it was conveniently by holland tunnel. My mom discovered that they started to write or change the amount of tip we give on receipts. Sometimes we tipped in cash so we didn’t always fill in the whole receipt. When we confronted the owner, she went to the back and grabbed a receipt from one of our orders and yelled “We wouldn’t do that. See! You wrote this yourself.” We had some of our receipts handy and showed them that we always marked an X and the receipt she had was a check mark.Caught in the lie, she still refused to admit it. This was a disappointing experience given the loyalty we showed as customers. Definitely won’t be returning.

I want to give 0 if there is any. Their service is horrible, and food is not authentic. They used to cook very delicious food but not any more these days. The worst part is, their delivery fee goes up way high and the delivery person demands a 15% tips even though we paid cash plus the high delivery fees. He wouldn't leave the apartment until we gave him more tips. OMG. Never order from here pls. There are many other great options out there in Jersey.

This place really surprised us. The staff is very nice and the food was pretty spot on. Soup dumplings were great. Szechuan wontons were great. Shumai was great. and Kung pao was great. Only thing we weren't crazy about was the Beef chow fun, as I had to add more sweet soy to get it going, as it was quite dry. Having said that, the beef was very good. Some places it's quite chewy or tough but it was nice and tender. For a hole in the wall outside the holland tunnel, they do some great stuff. will def be back.
