The best butcher in the area that I've found.
Too cool for school. The prices are extraordinarily high, but the quality is good enough (barely) to justify it.
The problem is about 50% of the staff act like they couldn’t be bothered to answer simple questions about the store. After the fifth time of putting up with that nonsense I wrote them off. Shame, because I like the food.
The place is owned by a husband and wife, and the wife is an absolute gem. A great cook too, some of the creations there are hers and really tasty.
But good god the weird aloof tattooed hipster crap of the staff has got to go. It’s such a common occurrence that it leaves me wondering how they keep finding more of these odd nerds when one leaves.
If you are a white hipster, with some extra dough, you are going to love this place. If not, your mileage may vary.
My go-to here is the lamb merguez sausages. Excellent spices and fat ratio. They always come out great on the pan.
Darke Pines is easily one of my favorite spots to grab a sandwich in Jersey City. Honestly, I haven't had a bad sandwich from these guys. The staff there is always super friendly and willing to help with any questions. Pretty much everything is made in house, and what isn't is top quality. They have a seasonal list of sandwiches and periodic specials (the Cuban! The heirloom tomato sandwich! The Chicago beef!) In addition to the sandwiches, they're a full butcher shop that also sells gourmet goods. I bought burgers from them for 4th of July and they were out of this world. If you live in JC and haven't been here, go. If you're not from JC make a trip.
Excellent meats and customer service, but unfortunately their prices are just too high for me to go back. I bought two porterhouse steaks and it cost more than going to a high end steakhouse restaurant. That doesn't make any sense.
Best sandwich in town
Best butcher in town
no question ?????? thank you guys!
I’ve only gotten the cotto sandwich but it’s still the best sandy in town. Also the fresh oxtail was insane.
The pastrami sandwich was delicious! The bread was very fresh and soft. 10/10
Saw the articles around their Heirloom Tomato sandwich. Was very good. But I also grabbed their roast beef with stracciatella and peppers. That blew me away. What I'd love to try is the roast beef sandwich with peppers swapped out with tomatoes. Wonder if they'd let me do it?
As far as I know, sandwiches are only offered Wed - Saturday. And while in line (around 11:30am on Saturday, line wasn't too long) I figured most people would be ordering sandwiches. But most went for the other meats they offer. I'm too lazy to cook that stuff - but definitely inspiring.
Anyway, worth the visit to try them!
Best.Sandwich.Ever. Heirloom tomato sandwich was incredible. Smoked ham and pimiento cheese sandwich was great too, but that tomato sandwich! ? Also, the sausages are great too!
Frienly staff and the tomato sandwich is WORTH THE HYPE!!!
