My go-to place when I’m craving real authentic Peruvian food. The ceviche has the perfect touch of tangy and sweet. The chaufa (with the green sauce) is fantastic - my husband usually orders it with their chicken and it’s so good!

My favorite ceviche. The seafood is fresh and light. The chicken was extremely juicy. The portions are always more than filling. And the green sauce is amazing. I go here at a minimum once a month. The staff are helpful and always a pleasure to talk to. I am a fan of El Gordo

The chicken is juicy, seasoned perfectly and the skin is crispy. Its my go-to spot for rotisserie chicken. Great fast casual BYOB restaurant

I didn’t like the chicken I guess it was supposed to be fried . It was big and slimy I could not eat it waste of my money. The green rice is really good and the potatoes with the sauce is tasty

They sent me something different to what I ordered. See the pic!
Good food a little expensive
This restaurant exceeded all expectations. The warm ambiance and friendly staff made us feel at home from the moment we walked in. Each dish was flavorful and left us wanting more. The food is so delicious!! Good service all the time!! We were visiting another restaurants but nothing compares as the Gordo!!

I ordered through Google which said their preferred delivery was clover. Ordered delivery, got my receipt, received an email saying the order was processed and confirmed by the restaurant. After the initial receipt email I was not getting any notifications so after 45 min decided to call the place and a lady picked up and said their system changed and they no longer do clover. Even after I told her the order went through and I received a confirmation email, she just said I needed to call clover and get my money back. Very rude, never ordering from this place again. I like to support local businesses but with this type of attitudes is not worth it.
But the owners new rules are sad I'm long time customer when ever I go they serve u toasted corn and always offer refills yesterday the waitress said new rules you have to pay for it and I really think that is not rite in other restaurants they give you bread and butter and they don't charge you extra I don't think it is appropriate to charge for extra nuts if it's not costly her mother's restaurant in passaic nj gives you as much as u want free of charge and they give the same serving for one or three people I spent on my dinner 35 dollars for one person but it was sad they would do that

Had the fish ceviche, so good and there were so many pieces of fish!
I take any and all roasted chicken recs, as it has slowly become my favorite food. It is the perfect intersection of being a relatively healthy meal while still being delicious.
All this to say, my guy Blake told me about El Gordo, an authentic Peruvian spot in Jersey City, so we made the push over there. Peruvians tend to slang top tier, roasted chicken, so I was juiced.
We both got half chickens with a side of yellow rice and plantains. El Gordo’s chicken is marinated in a blend of Peruvian spices before being slow-roasted. The result is tender, juicy chicken with a crispy, flavorful skin.
This was some SOLID bird, sliding in right in my lower A-tier ranking. It was just missing some of that wow, fall off the bone factor, but it just may not have been their best day. A lot of this is just personal preference at the end of the day.
This green sauce was LEGENDARY. Some of the best green sauce I’ve ever had. My only regret is that I didn’t realize until after that they sell it by the bottle. Peruvian Green sauce up there for the most underrated sauce.
