I’m going to update my review again to 4 stars! Happy hours is the best!

It was 4+ stars and my go-to local restaurant until yesterday. We had order Risotto and hanger steak. The risotto was too salty to eat. Hanger steak was pungent, and associate vegetables were also too salty. Both foods taste really bad, seriously. The only good thing was bread.
I know this place was good. But somehow, food quality changes so badly.

Light Horse is a very solid Jersey City located in Paulus Hook. Great design. Super clean and smart. The Costa Rican bartender that served us was super knowledgeable and very sweet. We had raw bar specials and they were all delicious. We had a couple of drinks and they were all perfectly built. We will definitely be returning.

One of my favorite places for food and ambiance. Its historical setting feels like a real-life Revolutionary era.

Great ambiance (live music, fireplace), good service, but the food quality is not up to par. Celebrated a friend's birthday here and the food pretty much across the board (mussels, meatloaf, risotto) was overcooked and dry, fries seemed to come from a bag. It's certainly not worth the price they charge for their plates. I was hoping for a great occasion, but the food did not cooperate.

We ordered a fish and chips and it was completely covered in batter and butter. There's a very weird thing that they charge $1.5 extra for ice with a liquor and it's not mentioned anywhere on the menu. This is the fist time I saw some place charge extra for frozen water. When asked about it I was directed to the internal system price. A customer is supposed to pay whatever is shown on the menu. If something is extra then it should be conveyed beforehand by the server.

While visiting from Florida we found Light Horse Tavern while searching for a place to eat near our hotel. It was a warm and welcoming place on such a cold day as it was. The fish and chips and Shrimp tortellini we had was excellent. The orange cake and chocolate bread pudding complimentary deserts were both exceptional. We shall return!! Thanks Ron.

Restaurantji Recommends
Light Horse Tavern is a local spot that offers a decent brunch and dinner, though the food quality can be a bit inconsistent depending on the day. While it wouldn’t be my first choice to recommend, it’s a solid option if you’re in the area and looking for a place to stop by.

Okay, may be it’s an unpopular opinion. I wanna know why this restaurant has privilege to occupy more than half of the sidewalk for their outdoor seating 24/7 all year round?!
As you can see there always a table place 6 feet away from the main door blocking the corner of way. There is an elementary school nearby where many small kids and parents with stroller walking by. Everyone has to squeeze on a tight space. There’s a construction (under same restaurant?) next to it and the work continues for years which also blocking the way to school.
I’d avoid walking that route because it’s not safe to us. I donno the rules of outdoor seating. This restaurant occupies the public space as far as possible, but please be considerate to the neighbors especially to our children who need to pass by on daily basis!!!

Nice ambience, good beer selection and cheerful service. Big airy rooms with lots of seating. My only complaint is that their menu is very seafood heavy and they don’t have WINGS! How can a beer tavern not have wings?? 😀😀
Light Horse Tavern offers a fantastic dining experience with a cozy atmosphere and excellent service. The food is always top-notch, with a great selection of dishes that never disappoint. Whether you're there for a casual meal or a special occasion, it’s a place you can count on for great quality and a memorable time. Highly recommended!
