The place is depressing. The food is inconsistent. Inside the meatball, I could taste it was good. However, the outside and the soup was awful.

Impressive authentic Shanghainese restaurant.Potato salad - reminds me of the taste of home. A little too salty and too much mayo though.Xiao long bao - delicious filling and thin wrap with plenty of soup. The tip on the top is a little thick thoughWon ton - very authentic, though slightly too saltySoy sauce chicken - my Argentinian friend absolutely loved it. Flavorful and tender.Ma lan tou - a gem! Didn't expect to find this hometown vegetable here. Inexpensive, refreshing and tasty. Great seasoning too.I'll come back to try more dishes!

Food was delicious. Portions seem smaller than I'm used to, but the flavor is way better. Service is ok, not that anyone is rude, but you're just left alone. Some people might like that. I would love to come back and try more things. We came on a Saturday night and it was not busy at all. The interior is decorated nicely, but it lacks a feeling of comfort and feels a bit sanitized. But again, it was really delicious, so I don't care. I'll be back.

What a disappointment! Me and my husband decided to try this place and reading the google reviews made us extremely excited. I’m a Turkish woman and my husband is an Italian man. We both are foodies and love Asian cuisine. We ordered 3 dishes to try. Boneless diced chicken with chili pepper($15), Slow cooked braised beef Noodle Soup($14), and Wok fried shrimp with string beans ($20). The broth in the noodles was tasteless. There was no flavor, no seasoning. It was just plain hot water. I’ve never had such a sad noodle before. Chicken was ok but not worth $15 at all and in all 3 dishes we liked the shrimp the most but even the shrimp was mediocre at best if you compare with other restaurants in Jersey City. I don’t know if the real chef was sick and someone else covered for them that day or they didn’t wanted to give us the real food because we weren’t from Asia, but our experience was under mediocre. Food was not impressive, and definitely doesn’t deserve this price range. The only nice thing was the service employee.

I had a delicious early dinner here while I waited for my train. The food, service and atmosphere are very good. I had the Garlic oil noodles and the Country side chicken that was cooked to perfection. All in all I highly recommend this place. 谢谢你们招待我,食物很好吃!?

This restaurant imposes credit card fees on customers and claims that all nearby businesses do the same, but apparently Shake Shack across the street doesn't. Banks charge credit card fees to merchants because it is in merchants' interest. Convenient payment methods such as credit cards attract more customers and guess what, SALT & GINGER passes the fees on to consumers! And their attitude is very bad. When I went to pick up, paid and questioned their behavior, there was not a table of customers in the restaurant, and they actually loudly argued with me. This attitude towards customers explains why there are no table clients at six o 'clock in the evening.

My stomach feels very uncomfortable after eating here. Also the portion is very little, not worths the price.

I have only done takeout so no idea what the service is like which is one reason can only give it a 4 stars. I have gotten 6 dishes between two orders. The biggest quibble was the chickenFried rice was a bit salty. I enjoyed both styles of pork dumplings, two chicken dishes and the oil Noodles. I hope they keep up good work as been burned by a number of places that had to cheapen down after a few months.

Super authentic Shanghainese food. I was pleasantly surprised! The chef used to be a culinary teacher in Shanghai and also was the chef in Joe’s Shanghai in Flushing. As a Shanghainese girl, I highly recommend this restaurant, which reminds me of home! Plus, the owner of the restaurant is also super friendly and helpful!
