It would be a basic Indian buffet but for a chicken Manchurian type dish that was just sublime. We went on a Sunday afternoon around 2pm and they were pretty busy. Many vegetarian options, a salad and chaat bar, three desserts. Besides that chicken dish there was also a chicken curry and a mutton curry. Both were good. The dal makhni was perfect - not oily like in most places. The rice pudding was just the right sweetness.
They kept refilling the dishes even though it was close to closing time.
I docled a star for the atmosphere because the place is a bit small and cramped. Otherwise the service was quick and food was delicious and reasonably priced. I'm glad we went there and in sure you won't be disappointed if you visit.

I had ordered 1 gobi munchurian and 1 chicken fried rice via doordash last week. The munchurian tasted really good, bu the fried rice was okay. There was some smell in the chicken, not sure if it was fresh. Good value for money though.

Ordered chicken bhuna, drums of heaven, mughlai biryani, chicken angara. Everything was good in taste except chicken bhuna and biryani. Biryani was a major turn off as it lacked taste and had lot of kevda added to it. Biryani was not even close to pulao. Bhuna wasn’t authentic and had taste of uncooked coconut base and was bland.

🌶️ A Must-Visit for Every Spice-Loving Indian Mouth!

After two years of searching, I can finally say I’ve found the Indian buffet that hits every note, Swadist in Jersey City is an absolute gem. If you’re someone who refuses to compromise on flavor, spice, and authenticity, this place will blow your expectations out of the water.

We walked in on a Saturday without a reservation and somehow lucked out with a table because trust me, it was packed to the brim. The energy was buzzing, the aroma was intoxicating, and the buffet? A full-on flavor parade.

The spread was massive:

Fresh pasta salad, chana-rajma salad, and a crunchy onion-tomato-cucumber mix
A fruit station with six varieties—fresh and vibrant
Dahi puri made fresh on the spot (yes, live counter!)
Tangdi chicken, chilli fish, veg noodles, and veg Manchurian; each one perfectly spiced and balanced
Soft butter and plain naan, rajma dal, baigan mirchi, biryani, plain rice, kadhai chicken, and goat masala—just yum
For dessert: moong dal halwa, rasmalai, and tutti frutti ice cream—sweet endings done right

I’m a coriander lover, and nearly every dish had that fresh, herby punch I crave. The chilli, seasoning, and spice levels were unapologetically bold exactly how Indian food should be. No bland shortcuts here.

Sure, the biryani leaned sweet and the dahi vada missed the mark, but everything else more than made up for it. The service was top-notch friendly, attentive, and genuinely warm. One of the cooks (a lovely lady) kept checking in on us, asking how we liked the food. We couldn’t stop raving.

Swadist isn’t just a buffet. it’s a celebration of Indian flavors. It costs 20.99$ per person without tax. If you’re in Jersey City and craving a spice-packed, soul-satisfying meal, don’t walk, run. Just maybe book ahead next time.

The Mughlai-style chicken biryani lacked flavor and was quite bland. The chicken itself was average neither particularly fresh nor stale, but also lacking in taste. However, the raita was creamy and enjoyable.

In Jersey City, it’s tough to find good, fresh food. After reading the reviews, I had high hopes for this place but unfortunately, they’re just like the others, serving old, pre-made food.

Amazing food and ambience

Update: The ambience is not welcoming as it used to be. Sad to see a good spot becoming a meh spot.

The server took forever to have us sit, take the order, and provide with the check. AC was off.
