I travel the world for business and I can say with 100% confidence that Uncle Momo's had the best and most tender octopus I have ever had. So much so that I asked to meet the owner, Wissam. He was absolutely amazing as a person and an incredible chef. I went there again the next day and brought friends. You absolutely have to go here if you are in Jersey City.

We visited Uncle Momo’s as a group of four families after reading all the great reviews. Unfortunately, our experience didn’t reflect that at all.
When we arrived, we were told they didn’t have space to seat our group, so we agreed to do takeout — no complaints there. We were flexible and even waited an additional 10 minutes as instructed. Then, they realized our food bags were mixed up and had to be reorganized.
During that time, we noticed multiple indoor seats had opened up, and the entire outdoor seating area was completely empty — not a single guest. We asked if we could just sit and eat quickly since our food was already ready. Instead, they told us there would be a 20% upcharge to dine in.
From a customer service perspective, this was very disappointing. We were cooperative and patient throughout, and frankly, it would’ve just been easier if they had seated us to begin with — even with a 10–15 minute wait. It would have saved everyone time and left us with a better experience.
I’ve worked in sales and hospitality and understand the importance of valuing your customer. It really felt like they chose to risk a bad review rather than offer a small courtesy for a large group of families with kids, who had already paid and were just waiting.
As for the food — it was okay, not bad, but definitely not the best. I’ve had better, and the overall service made it hard to enjoy.
Unfortunately, a 1-star experience overall.

Worst experience, very rude staff, no courtesy at all. They delayed the order by more than half hour, kids were hungry and after that much delay when we ask them to service at the restaurant they said no they cannot serve a large family in the restaurant although all of our orders were separately so technically if they were three or four different families of four people they would still have served them. Once we took over food we requested them that we can sit outside in the sitting area which was totally empty and we our kids can at least eat there because they've delayed and they said sorry this is not in the policy. No even we don't feel to eat this food.

Uncle Momo is more than a restaurant.. it’s a place where folks in Jersey city go to feel like they are being taken care of like they are home. I recently went with my family, and my parents are visiting. My kids were screaming. And my family is a picky eater. Veg, Non veg, crispy fish.. it’s is the stuff nightmares are made off for restaurants. Lol. Not for these guys though. The generosity and humility they showed is unparalleled - food, service, checking in with us. If you want a great meal with great ambience and want to feel like it’s home, come to Uncle Momo.

I’ve been to Uncle Momo’s twice. The food is fresh and flavorful, and the staff is kind—but the service is consistently disorganized. Multiple servers cover the same table without coordination, making it hard to get basic attention or timely service.
With so many great options in Jersey City, it’s hard to justify a third visit unless things improve. The kitchen is doing great work—it just needs better support out front.
