Went here with some co-workers. This spot has some legit Peruvian food at decent prices. The Jalea was delicious! I'd repeat!

Pésimo menú es una burla para la clientela peruana quieren engañar sirviendo arroz del día anterior . El menú que ofrecieron fue lentejas con arroz y pollo guisado . Mezclaron el arroz con las lentejas sin sabor el pollo igual. Mi perro come mejor que yo Damn!!! Unbelievable how this people can do this to the customers NO VAYAN!!!

I ordered to 2 quarter chickens one w/fries and salad. The other rice and fries. Overall the chicken was nicely cooked and tasted. The problem was my salad was in the same container as my fries and chicken! The other issue was the rice was very bland!

My friend and I wound up at Don Alex's on Saturday evening after the restaurant we originally wanted to go to did not have any openings. What a true stroke of luck! Don Alex is a wonderful restaurant right off route 22 with delicious food! I had an order of Maduros to start and loved every second of them. Also, the tortilla chips came with salsa Verde peruana, which was also amazing.For dinner, I had lomo saltado, which is a dish of either chicken or beef with french fries, white rice, and peppers and onions. I have not had it in a while, but this dish hit the spot. I was a little shocked at how empty the restaurant was, considering how good the food was, but they also had a takeout side, which seem to have a lot of customers. If you are in the Kenilworth area, this is definitely worth a trip.

Very disrespectful on the phone, was told "this isn't an like an American restaurant that you can order whatever parts of a chicken you like" then the attendant proceeded to joke with staff about how I wanted "two right chicken legs" and that he was "very busy" wouldn't recommend the food either, I work not even a block away and go there for convenience, but I'm never going back nor recommending this place to my coworkers.

Literally DOG FOOD! Perhaps the most overprice and underwhelming meal I've ever ordered. I ordered the Lomo Saltado, which I always order from Peruvian places. It was MAYBE $2.00 worth of cheap meat, ZERO flavor and sauce, for $16! I will pay people NOT to eat here! This place is literally robing ANYONE who buys this "food". There are a TON of other places that actually make this dish right. The meat is mixed in, NOT slopped on top, there is actually SAUCE, and oh yeah, for almost $20 they give you a TRAY and not a TIN! This place will never get my business or anyone whose ear I can get. ¡Literalmente COMIDA PARA PERROS! Quizás la comida más cara y decepcionante que he pedido. Pedí el Lomo Saltado, que siempre ordeno en lugares peruanos. ¡Era TAL VEZ $ 2.00 en carne barata, CERO sabor y salsa, por $ 16! ¡Le pagaré a la gente para que NO coma aquí! Este lugar literalmente está robando a CUALQUIERA que compre esta "comida". Hay un montón de otros lugares que realmente hacen que este plato sea correcto. La carne está mezclada, NO derramada encima, en realidad hay SALSA, y sí, ¡por casi $ 20 te dan una BANDEJA y no una LATA! Este lugar nunca captará mi negocio ni nadie a quien pueda escuchar.

Even though this is a chain restaurant this Don Alex has really great Peruvian food. I have only done pick up 2x and the food was delicious. They have indoor and outdoor seating and hope to eat there soon. Provecho :)

WILL NEVER ORDER FROM AGAIN. After several pleasant meals, my daughter called today to place an order and was hung up on because whoever answered the phone said "No english" and Hung up.
Columbia man take phone orders and in the front is the nastiest person Very rude and Obnoxious. The food is good Union, NJ does not have a lot of Spanish places to eat from. It is not made by Peruvian people.

Monday 5:pm slow night first time at this place. In the middle of the pandemic all businesses are doing their best to stay open and some just dont care, as peruvian i have to say im so disappointed. I don't know which was worse the food or the service.......

I would realistically give this restaurant 3.5 stars. I got the steak and eggs over rice and French fries with fried plantains. Pros: -Very good food overall -very nice staff -a lot of food per plate Cons: -Took around 30-35 minutes from when I ordered to get my food and it wasn't very busy,( I was on my lunch break so I didn't have much time to eat) -steak was very thin and tough Neutral: -a little expensive but not too crazy

We really wanted Peruvian food and figured we try a new place. I called to ask if open and if there was a menu online. Woman who answered didn't speak English and didn't understand me. Decided to take the ride and order in person. Walk in and only 1 person working the front which makes sense during the quarantine! The second I walked in he starts talking to me in Spanish. When he finally stops I tell him I can't speak Spanish. He looks at me sadly and says "oh". Now 2 different people and 2 don't speak English. I have to point to my items on the menu that i want. Food is made quickly. I ordered the arroz chaufa beef and chicken. The price is similar to everywhere else $15 but you get no where near as much food and it might be the worst Peruvian fried rice i ever had. The container was the size of a side dish anywhere else. I would say maybe half as much as i have gotten at all other places. The rice was dry, some was burned and hard, there was no flavor and it was very greasy. Barely any chicken, beef or egg. It was basically all rice and scallions! I was so disappointed but it makes sense looking at their rating on yelp and Google both around 3 stars. Basically overpriced, no flavor, half the size portions of other places and they can't communicate with English speaking potential customers!
