“This was my first time eating at this BBQ joint located inside the Trenton Farmer’s Market. Their products (Brisket, chicken wings, pork) are smoked right outside the stand so you are getting them fresh from the smoker. There are three tables that you can eat at. One is a high top that seats six and the other two are regular tables with one side pushed against a wall, so eight additional seats. My order included two pounds of brisket ($23/pound), one pound of pulled pork ($17/pound) and one pound of slaw. At first glance, I was going to order the baby back ribs but then noticed the $18 price was per pound and rather than for the entire rack. What I Liked: - The Seize the Deal offer was a game changer at $25 for a $50 food voucher - The smoke flavor on the brisket and pulled pork was strong but not bitter - The bark on the brisket was about as black as you will see. They use hickory and wild cherry wood. - The brisket (cut across the grain) and the pulled pork were tender - I sampled the baked beans and they were better than average. I hear they mix 3-5 different peppers with them. - They had pickle and pepper (Hot, sweet) slices at the condiment bar What I Did Not Like: - There was no smoke ring on the brisket since the fat cap was left fully intact. So, if you wan the full smoke flavor you have to eat the fat. - One pound of brisket was cut with the grain and resulted in strings of meat! - The brisket was dry and relied on the fat cap juice from above to add moisture - The brisket in play here has both the flat and the point in play since they do not remove the point (fat cap) and use it for burnt ends. This is extra work that are avoiding because making burnt ends requires additional steps in the process. - The pulled pork was a bit salty for me but not over the top salty - The slaw was more of a fresh salad and not traditional coleslaw - They did not offer collard greens - They only offer two BBQ sauces. The sweeter one had too much of a honey taste. The spicier one could have had been better flavor. - The $18/pound price for the baby back ribs is over the top expensive. They weigh 1.5 to 2 pounds and are usually up to 80% bone. If you are lucky to get 1/3 (33%) of pork off the bones, that is $54/pound, Whaaaaaaaat! My Portly Pigg rating is 8.8/10 Oinks for the pulled pork and My Prime Minister of Beef rating is 8.1/10 Moos for the brisket. Without the Seize the Deal voucher the ratings would drop because of the higher price point, to 8.2/10 and 7.8/10 respectively. The brisket for me is always the money shot and weighs heavy when I do my overall score. My overall score was 8.1/10 (with voucher) and 7.5/10 without the voucher. Note, this place was ranked #19 by the Star Ledger earlier this year citing “Hambone Opera’s pulled pork — supremely succulent — is among the best I have sampled on my barbecue journeys, and the brisket oozes fatty goodness”. Personally, I don’t think anyone in Texas is losing any sleep because of NJ BBQ being a competitor.“

“This place is amazing. This was my first time having this place. It was amazing, from the girl taking the order and explaining how ordering worked. She even gave my son a sample of Mac and Cheese to my son to try before ordering his kids meal. While eating Maribeth came around and was giving out samples. She was clearing off tables and asking if she could clear off what we were done with. She was very friendly and we enjoyed talking with her.I will say the snap bean are amazing and if I could’ve, I would’ve brought the whole pot home. All of the food is delicious.. I had pulled chicken and brisket, along with cornbread and snap bean and baked beans and you get so much food, the meats are so tender and flavorful. So worth the hour drive.Kid-friendliness: They have a kids menu and it’s filled with all of the foods kids love.. they even let the kids sample the Mac and cheese.“

“We both very much enjoyed our meal at the Roadhouse. Our steaks were perfectly cooked and our sides were delicious as well. The only issue was the Caesar salad because it was under dressed. It was practically dry. Other than that, we enjoyed our dinner.“

Chicken Tenders and Fries

“The chicken tenders are amazing. Juicy and fresh chicken. Platter comes with 2 sides. French fries are real potatoes, closer to a baked potato, and the onion rings are okay. It's a little greasy for my taste. Overall, it's a delicious meal that's reasonably priced. The 6 piece chicken tenders Platter was $10.49“
