About Benchmark Breads
Benchmark Breads Reviews
Their breads are amazing! I wish they were close by.
Their Sourdough loaf is outstanding!
I usually travel into NYC to buy sourdough bread at Lafayette Bakery in NoHo (the best in the city, in my opinion).
I tried Benchmark Bread for the first time today and their sourdough loaf is every bit as good as Lafayette’s, if not better! And cheaper! I’m mightily impressed by the high quality bread these local guys are turning out!

Benchmark Breads is a boulangerie in Little Silver. It sells freshly baked bread made with basic simple ingredients, no sugar / high fructose corn syrup, preservatives, dough conditioners or oil added. The bakery provides its creations to Drew’s Bistro, a finalist for the regional James Beard award, and is worth the trip for anyone who wants to up their cooking level with bread.
The menu includes a variety of breads: sourdough, cinnamon raisin, country loaf, jalapeño cheddar, olive and herb loaf, and special seasonal loaves such as a turkey shaped sourdough bread for Thanksgiving and a Pannatone loaf for Christmas. It also offers bagels, babka, cinnamon rolls, cookies, and other treats. The sourdough is described as hot, fresh, beautiful and mild enough for those who are not fans of sourdough. The country loaf pairs well with sauce, strong cheeses and spreadable chocolate. The jalapeño cheddar loaf pairs with chili. The olive and herb loaf is excellent alone and a perfect accompaniment to any pasta dish.
Customers say the loaves are hefty and better priced than grocery stores. Lines can form early; the shop sells out by 11:30 a.m. The bakery is a must‑go for sourdough lovers and anyone who enjoys fresh, flavorful bread.
