What a disappointment! I have been coming here since I was small and the location was on the boardwalk. We used to sit on the outside deck and throw pieces of hotdogs and buns to the seagulls as they dove and caught the scraps. It was our Monday night, summer go-to after the day on the beach with family and friends. Though atmosphere changed when restaurant moved inland, the food was still something we looked forward to. My mother, being a celebrity herself, brought several of her celebrity friends to Max's and their photos adorned the walls.
Now, I brought my children to experience the amazing Max's hot dogs, corn on the cob etc. and I will NEVER return. The music and bar added, was so loud we could not have a conversation. More importantly, the food was disgusting. The hotdogs were changed, they continued to get the orders wrong, the buns were ice cold as if they just took them out of the frig. the corn was tasteless, the burger gross and the drinks (alcoholic) were all water. Mrs. Max is rolling in her grave to see what has become of her and her husband's iconic establishment.
If you don't want to be aggravated and gravely disappointed, don't go.

I don’t crave hotdogs or go out of my way for them. HOWEVER Max’s hotdogs are on a whole other level. The hotdogs are 80% Beef and 20% pork.
My personal favorite is the Dog & The Pig. It’s a hotdog stuffed with cheese and topped with crispy bacon.

We went on a windy cooler day in the afternoon, so maybe they were just off, but they didn't have a lot of things on the menu despite the menu saying they serve breakfast all day. A lot of the food was over fried. I was not impressed.

After watching their episode on Kitchen Nightmares, we decided to go to Max’s hot dogs on the Wednesday before 4th of July for food and karaoke. The food was great we had hot dogs, wings, burgers, frickles, chicken tenders and fries with cheese. Everything was tasty and came out fresh. The Owner was our main server and she did a great job of taking care of us by making sure we always had drinks. The atmosphere was great, people were friendly and the people watching during karaoke was well worth the off key singing. If you want a fun time with good food, I suggest you give it a try.

LONG BRANCH: Max's Bar and Grill piqued our attention after being featured on the TV show Kitchen Nightmares, which is surprising that they were even on the show because they have been a staple in the area for almost 100 years! 2028 will be their 100th anniversary! They are famous for their hot dogs, and they also have a full menu to please anyone’s palette. A full bar and local beers complement the American-style menu and it is a spacious space to watch the game and meet people from all over the world! We met a couple visiting from Barcelona who were on their own tour of Bruce Springsteen history. Best of all, leashed and friendly dogs can join you inside and they are always pet friendly. Brie tip: take a photo with the awesome Long Branch, NJ mural on the front of the building.
