I wish I could say the bad experience ended when we walked out, but unfortunately, it got worse.
Despite the place being completely empty, my husband, our three-year-old, and I were told we could not sit down to look at the menu. I’m visibly pregnant, and our child was hot and tired from the July heat. We simply needed a moment to rest while we decided what to order. The handwritten menu is, in my opinion, messy and difficult to read, so we needed a bit more time to look it over.
We were immediately informed that waitress service doesn’t start till 7:00pm and we were not permitted to sit. My husband stated that we were just reviewing the menu. The girl behind the counter said, “You can stand to look at the menu. You can sit when your food is ready”.
The tone used was dismissive, sarcastic, and dismissively rude, making the entire experience uncomfortable and hostile. It was inappropriate for anyone in customer service.
I called twice later that day, but no one ever answered. Still, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and reached out to via Facebook to express my concerns.
What I got in return was more of the same: a snide, sarcastic, and dismissive response that confirmed this is simply how they treat people.
Two Cents Plain has a total lack of professionalism and respect. Save your money and take your family somewhere that actually welcomes customers.

Although the ice cream may be a little pricey(tell me what isn’t in Margate?) they definitely give you enough for your money; our sundaes were DELICIOUS!!! The girls were so sweet and worked super fast and efficiently, and my favorite place on the island for ice cream.

Went there to get a scoop of ice cream since there wasn’t much left of the flavor they scooped about a half of scoop charged 6.00 plus tax. We will never be back

By far the best ice cream in Margate City, New Jersey. I started going to Two Cents Plain when I was 10 years old. I’m 33 years old and still get the same waffle with chocolate and banana ice cream on top! It gets better everytime.

Terrible service, the two girls working there has no idea how to make a sundae and a float. Also had their boyfriend's there hanging out and had very vulgar rap music playing 21 Savage Redrum to be specific go listen to it and not to mention little kids in there eating ice cream. Had no ac on was hotter inside than outside. I would never go there again if you paid me. I don't see how they have a 4.5 rating tbh. Beware of this place eat at your own risk
You're better off going to a super market and getting ben and Jerry's. They used to have good options but now the few they have are meh and costly

I was shocked when the owner was rushing me out while I was mid-way through my sundae. I felt hassled as they were cleaning up under me. On google they say open until 11:30pm, and I came in and was seated around 10:30pm. Excited to be back there after so many years ; was one of my favorite ice cream shops as a child. Around 11pm, the owner began rushing me to finish my ice cream, said they needed my dish to finish cleaning. She continued to say rude and insulting comments implying that I was taking too long to eat my ice cream and should have been done already. It’s a shame because never will I go back there. Absolutely worst customer experience of all time. I would think again before giving them business.

the last review i see on here is from 6 years ago and it seems nothing at all has changed. they have the exact same vegan menu with smoothies, smoothie bowls, and banana whip. (no ice cream options). my parnter and i both ordered banana whip and paid over $20 for them. the whip was pretty soupy and not as thick as banana whip usually is, but the flavor was good. after all how could it not be when it's just bananas. it was nice somewhere nearby had options, but it's not worth going back.

All I can say is it is a great place!!! The owner was so nice to us and treated my table to half off just because she came over to us and asked what we were doing. We just said we always come to Two Cents Plain as it’s part of our annual tradition to go as we been doing it for years. We always look forward to going and can’t wait to return. Best ice cream with the best owner!!!
